Let me help you out. I need to know how much you paid for a liter of fuel. Assuming 1k per liter that should have give you 8 liters which to me is 2 gallon,

Corolla 18L 4 cylinders fuel rate is 35 miles per gallon Highway and 28 miles per gallon city
Venza engine 4 cylinders 2.7L fuel rate is 30 miles highway and 22 miles city
Partner you getting 31 km (19 miles) for 2 gallons just doesn't make any sense to me. Unless the dispensing pump had been tampered with. Even GMC Yukon with 8 cylinders 5.7L engine still gives 16 miles of Highway and 10 miles of City. My advice to Nigerians is to try as much as possible to drive a car with a minimum of 2.4L engines that will help your transmission torque converter due to constant use of the car AC and high temperature. Nigeria weather is similar to Texas, and 80% of Texans drive V6-engine cars.
I paid 1350 per liter, at a filling station.

Venza is V6 and should be 3.5 engine, not 2.0. I'm not sure there is venza with 4 cylinder and even if there is, it should be around 2.5 engine.
yes there is a 4 plug venza

But does catalyst really saves fuel? For real?
Omo save is an understatement. E dey over save fuel, the sad truth is that most cars you see in Nigeria don't have converters. Even the ones they tell you that have catalyst converters may have been tampered. Anybody that tells you that a catalyst converter makes no difference is a thief.

Corolla with venza engine. You’re telling me that a venza engine rides on 2.0 litre engine?
I think the mechanic does not know what he is saying because a venza and a Corolla cannot share the same engine

You’re mistaken. The Camry’s i4 engine is very identical to the Venza’s i4 engine. The Camry’s i4 engine is 2.5L, while that of the Venza is 2.7L..(slightly bigger)….
Ps: Both vehicles use the same type of engine, for the v6 variants.
I will have to research more on this

Oga op, if you get any small sense remaining please run away from that your mechanic and that scanner man. They are about to run you better street. No Corolla uses any venza engine in any guise or form. Secondly, you can't determine your fuel consumption with 6 liters of fuel. Your type easily fall prey to scammers. My advice? Abort every appointment with your technicians, fill your tank, use that car for a week then take it to a good garage for inspection, that is if the car is a Tokumbo. If it's Nigerian used, take it to a good electrician for scanning but don't sound desperate...
Re: My Corolla With Venza Engine Gulping Up Fuel Like Water (details Inside) by akinlolua: 8:42am On Sep 20, 2024
The way to determine fuel efficiency is divide the distance by how many liters you bought with the 8k. that will give you how many kilometers you drive per gallon. if you go by price, you analysis will be biased. Thank me tomorrow.

Good morning Nairalands

After my never ending fuel gulping battle with my Toyota Camry, I later ended up buying a 2012 Toyota Corolla.

I went with my mechanic to a car stand to get it, when we got there we saw different kinds/types of corolla. My mechanic told me some are 1.8l engine while others are 2.0l and a lot of the corolla uses venza engine.

I wanted to buy any of the corolla of 1.8L engine but my mechanic told me that they're old model, that I should get a recent corolla with Venza engine, but I refused when I heard the word "venza engine"

I told my mechanic that over my dead body will I jump from frying pan to fire, from Camry to Venza. I said so because since the corolla is using Venza engine, it'd surely gulp up fuel like Venza, which would be a lot worst than a camry.

But my mechanic assured me that what I said is very false, that it won't. That a corolla is a corolla and corollas doesn't eat fuel.

His words really calmed me down and I bought the 2012 corolla.

So I bought 8k fuel to test the fuel usage and see how long it'd last, I know I should have bought more, but I needed to get a faster result.

Well, it turns out that my mechanic tricked me and I'm in so much pains right now, my 8k fuel only went for 31km before the fuel got exhausted, I later realized that I was very much right and shouldn't have listened to my mechanic that a corolla is a corolla, venza engine or small 1.8L engine.

From my observation, it seems the 2012 corolla is gulping up fuel like a venza. Yesterday, I took it to a mechanic and asked them to fix anything that'd make the car to gulp up fuel, they changed the plugs, cleaned the filter, I will be testing it today with another 8k fuel, I pray and I hope that it won't be as bad as it was yesterday, because I'm so depressed right now, after what my camry did to me which made me went for a corolla, now I'm having same issue with my corolla. I'm really so down right now.
Both you and your mechanic lack basic of car engines. No Corolla uses a Venza engine (whatever that means)
Re: My Corolla With Venza Engine Gulping Up Fuel Like Water (details Inside) by nwirinedu(m): 8:55am On Sep 20, 2024
I don't know who told you that the 2012 corolla uses a Venza engine. There are 2 engines for the Venza, a 2.7 liter 4-cylinder engine and a 3.5 v6 engine.

The corolla you mentioned uses a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine, estimate mpg is 28.47 miles per gallon, which is about 37 kilometers per 4 litres of fuel.

You are saying it used 8 liters for 31km. How and where did you drive it.?

Where you using ac? Are you driving stop and go as bolt driver? Is the engine sound? Where you driving above 60kmph? These are questions you should answer first before killing your mechanic.

8k fuel is only 8 liters , don't expect it to last for a month, even if you are using keke.

I believe the car you talked about looks like the one below? If you really want economy go for smaller engine like a 1.3 or 1.4 but know that other factors like your driving habits, engine condition and even the type of fuel determines your MPG.

If you cant spend up to 20k per visit to the fuel station you better park the car, get a bicycle.
Re: My Corolla With Venza Engine Gulping Up Fuel Like Water (details Inside) by nwirinedu(m): 8:58am On Sep 20, 2024
This is how the 2012 Corolla looks like, you can see the estimated MPG, quoted MPGs by car makers are not always correct because they don't drive their vehicles on the open road when testing for MPG, so in the absence of any irregularities on your part, yours may be the actual mpg for the car.

If fuel economy is a concern stay away from engines bigger than 1600cc.

Bro be careful with all these mechanics and technicians. They will chop you dry with stories once they notice that you are a novice and anxious to fix every little thing. Do not be surprised that all these issues from speedometer not functioning and others are just fuse cut. For your gearbox not selecting properly, it may be caused by faulty speed sensor or a bridge along the wiring and those issues are easy and cheap to fix if you have a sincere technician. You need to do a scan otherwise na so them go chop you wella.

This is what the scanner man told me needs to be changed, my mechanic has gotten price from the seller and it's 93,000 naira, we're going to get it today. I'm going with him so I will confirm it myself at the shop, if it's truly 93,000.
GO TO JIJI, CHECK IT ON JIJI, CALL THE CONTACTS OF THE SELLER AND PRICE IT(MAYBE 2 OR 3 SELLER). BY SO DOING, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE IDEA ON THE PRICE.
MACHO GO DO SAKAMANJE ON YOU WITH THE SELLER EVEN IF YOU ARE THERE. THEY ARE MOSTLT FAMILIAR WITH THE SELLER, SO OF COURSE SELLER MOST ADD THEIR MONEY WHEN NEGOTIATING IN YOUR PRESENCE. grin
YOU THINK SAY YOU DEY WISE grin grin. GOING WITH HIM WOULD MAKE IT WORSE.
JUST CHECK IT ON JIJI YOURSELF AND CALL THE CONRACT. JUST HAVE AN IDEA OF THE PRICE EVEN IF YOU'LL HAVE TO GO WITH THEM.
AND IF HIS PART SELLER PRICE IS HIGH, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE OR BETTER STILL, LOCATE THE CONTACT YOU CALLED ON JIJI. HIS JOB IS TO GET YOU A GOOD PART AND NOT TO DETERMINE PRICE.
THAT ABS MODULE SHOULDN'T BE MORE THAN 40K. I SAID WHAT I SAID.
CHECK IT ON JIJI
IF YOU LIVE AROUND IKOTUN, I CAN ASSIST YOU WITH SOME CAR KNOWLEGE AND HOW TO GET THINGS FIXED . ATLEAST WE GO DRINK ORIGIN AND CATFISH ON A STEADY FLEXING grin grin grin
JUST BOX ME UP ON WHATSAPP

Impossible.
Only highlander and venza can share engine.
Plus maybe hilux and fortuner.
No corolla will be able to use a venza engine.

Edit:
I've got so many mentions of camry 2010 upwards using venza engine. The engine covers and format of the 4cylinders look thesame but the strength and size of the mechanical materials inside are different. It's a 2.5L for camry to 2.7L for venza/highlander.
Camry 2010 uses venza engine

Nothing concern catalyst with fuel consumption, it is the oxygen sensor, when will you people understand this?

Catalyst is to are down the harmful gases from the engine to the environment.
