I was told pigs were brought to Africa by the whites. The colonial masters brought pigs and pidgeons to African and when they left, those one became stray pigs and birds.

My question is: if these creatures existed in the 1600s or whenever, what happened to them? After all, we still see present day animals among them. And why would "they" hide it from us? Of what import would it have been to us if we knew whether they existed or not?

Yes. But how possible we were not exposed to these creatures as we were to Dinosaurs? What made them different. I can admit that I was frightened by some of the images I saw

I have studied biology and the first few years of my research were devoted to studying biological evolution and genetics in-depth.

Biology never told us that creatures with the bodies of lions and heads of humans ever existed. Neither did it tell us that mermaids or griffins existed.

Of what use is such knowledge
And how can it improve human life??

Such knowledge won't stop wars
Human beings are destructive in nature and have always been destructive.
So such knowledge won't change a damn thing

There will still be disease, hunger and poverty
So of what benefit is such knowledge

Unicorns have always been in literature and films.
Half human half horse has been in movies and books
Horse with wings have been in films and books

There are many creatures

It depends on which creatures a writer want to use

Popular book and film writers usually use Dinosaur, that is why many people know about it.

You can pick an ancient animal and write a popular story about them and boom many people will get to know such creatures.
