Please, is it possible to have two mutual fund accounts (particularly for MMF) with a manager? Specifically for Stanbic IBTC and FBNQUEST. If yes, will I need to fill separate and/or new forms? Thank you. |
| Re: Mutual Funds by Hogwarthtrades: 12:59pm On Sep 26, 2024 |
olig:as many as your heart desire. You will follow each firm's account opening process. BE mindful to check the quality of the mutual fund to avoid duplication. It will seem counterintuitive if buying a mutual fund that has same stock as what you have in your stock portfolio and or your fixed income basket (Treasury bill , FGN savings, Bonds, etc) , except duplication is your goal. |

Thank you very much. To be clearer. I have mutual fund accounts with several managers. I have subscribed to almost entirely money market fund (MMF). I now need another mutual fund account for a separate money market fund investment. This is not entirely my own money. Thus, I want it separate from my main account and money. So, can I have another account for money market fund with stanbic and FBN for instance, despite having one in that category before? Hogwarthtrades: |

Obinnau:For the dollar fund, I am seeing $1.54 per unit. Is that a monthly return on every $100 invested. |
| Re: Mutual Funds by Hogwarthtrades: 4:56pm On Sep 28, 2024 |
vefexam:It's possible to get the information. Ask the brokerage firm of your choice you are trying to open an account with to provide you the information. |
| Re: Mutual Funds by emmasoft(m): 5:25pm On Sep 28, 2024 |
vefexam:By the time you register and invest, you become a customer of the fund manager and as a customer, the funds factsheet will be sent to you at the end of every month, in that document you will see the percentages of the different underlying assets that make up the fund. |
| Re: Mutual Funds by vefexam: 7:31pm On Sep 28, 2024 |
emmasoft:I usually recieve that... As Hogwarthtrades said and i quote, "BE mindful to check the quality of the mutual fund to avoid duplication. It will seem counterintuitive if buying a mutual fund that has same stock as what you have in your stock portfolio and or your fixed income basket (Treasury bill , FGN savings, Bonds, etc)" I tot i could know (from norrenberger July Dollar fund stats) which kind of Corporate Eurobonds 25.77%, Sovereign Eurobonds 48.97% etc makes up that percentage allocation to avoid duplication. |
| Re: Mutual Funds by emmasoft(m): 8:37pm On Sep 28, 2024 |
vefexam:The funds factsheet is always reported in that format from all fund managers. Please note, when it comes to mutual funds the returns is combination of all the returns of the underlying assets. Mode of operations, payment of returns from mutual funds and individual stocks or bonds differs. For example a balance fund that has stocks, money market instruments or even real estate cannot be having same returns as in buying an individual stock or bonds, again, the returns are not paid the same time, Mutual funds have a particular time of returns payment, if for example you have GTCO as a stock, and the mutual funds you are invested in has GTCO plus other assets, you would have receive an interim dividend from GTCO but the fund where GTCO is an underlying assets will still pay dividend say by December or anytime specified for dividend payment. The truth is that most of the assets that you judge to be good enough to invest in is the same assets that fund managers go for with little or no difference depending on the overall objectives and nature of the particular fund. |

emmasoft:Good evening emmasoft... Please how long does it take to open mmf for my 4 kids, I have sent the necessary requirements and filled out the forms for them since the first week of Sept but I ain't getting any satisfactory response. I used a 3rd party though |
| Re: Mutual Funds by vefexam: 8:34pm On Sep 30, 2024 |
emmasoft:So in summary, there is little to no point in investing in individual security classes... Just invest in MMF, since it's spread around individual security classes. |
| Re: Mutual Funds by emmasoft(m): 9:57pm On Sep 30, 2024 |
vefexam:It depends on the mutual fund you are investing in. Mutual funds are classified base on the underlying assets. Most investors that don't have the time to follow up with the market and want professionals to manage their investment usually go for mutual funds. Personally, I always advice my clients to buy individual stocks than investing in equity base mutual funds because it's the same risk that is involved. Mutual funds like MMF and fixed income are good because it's less risky and very convenient especially if you don't have bulk funds and one need to build the investment gradually. |

emmasoft:Hello Oga Emma, Can a third party make deposits into Stanbic MMF account quoting the account holder reference no even a newly opened account? |
| Re: Mutual Funds by emmasoft(m): 9:43am On Oct 02, 2024 |
Hopez456:Yes, it's possible. However, ask the depositor to send you the transfer evidence and the account holder in turn send the evidence with the registered email to stanbic customer care. |

Hello everyone! I wanted to transfer 10k dolls from my access bank account to Stanbic dollar fund account but the teller guy told me they will charge me USD93 extra for the transfer. I had to put it on hold. I intend to invest this amount for 6 months to sort japa plans next year but I don't if it's worth investing it in Stanbic dollar funds or just keep it in my account till then. Please house, how do I fund the Stanbic dollar mutual fund without paying thay exorbitant charges? Or any other advice? |
| Re: Mutual Funds by emmasoft(m): 1:08am On Oct 03, 2024 |
leks4sure:Some Basic things about Dollar funds Please note the following about the dollar fund in general the Stanbic and Norrenberger dollar fund in particular - It's in the medium-risk category of mutual funds /investment - it's not the same as MMF - Your capital is not completely guaranteed as it's with MMF. That means one can lose capital but it's not common especially if you have a long-term view - its price depends on the underlying asset which basically Eurobonds with varying prices - the minimum holding period is 6 months. - Everything about the investment is in dollars and must be by transfer. - Having a long-term in view is the best way to benefit from a dollar fund. - the major advantage is that it helps to hedge against inflation and devolution of local currency (naira) I prefer the Norrenberger dollar fund because it has a better rate. currently 9.48% Stanbic is 7%+ Norrenberger also accepts dollar cash deposits. They can also accept naira during the deposit, but the conversion rate is at their rate on the date of the investment. |

The experienced will answer. This is one of the reasons I am not doing dollar fund. Most banks does allow inter-bank transfers. That is a problem, and the charges are much. They basically treat it as if one is transferring offshore. Anyway, you will still have a little left, since your principal (10k) is not too small. You should also ask the fund manager if the charges for transfer (back to you) will not be billed on you when liquidating your investment. I don't know that. leks4sure: |
