I assume that everybody knows what Alagbon is, but I think I need to explain in case I'm wrong.


Alagbon Close is the name of a street that is just off Ikoyi Road. It is not far from Ijeh Barracks, Radio Nigeria, State House and the Federal Secretariat.


There is a notorious police station that is on that close and that's what most people are referring to when they say "Alagbon".

That station has been the home of many important units, most notably the Federal Criminal and Investigation Bureau (the famous CID).

A lot of famous people have been detained there and in fact, that's where coupists were actually meant to be detained (before Obasanjo's decree). A lot of coupists have been detained there.

Orlando Owoh was detained there and that's why he sang that song.

I was going to post this in the morning when I thought I was free.

This man is one of three people that I thought were perennially appearing in court. I couldn't even remember what he was charged with when I wanted to post this in the morning, but I remember that he would appear on the NTA News almost once a week because they were reporting about his appearance in court.


If I remember correctly, his legal problems started around 1986 and lasted till around 1988. He was charged with being in possession of hard drugs, but many people believed that he was actually arrested because of his song about Dele Giwa.


The other two people that often appeared in court were Fred Ajidua (c1992 till the Goodluck Jonathan Administration) and the man that I had a strange encounter with. That man's legal problems began in 1993 or '94 and lasted till sometime when the Olusegun Obasanjo Administration was in office.


This song is about his Prison Experience and although I know the real name of the song, I call it "Alagbon" (the chorus went,

"I remember officer at Alagbon
I remember suspect at Alagbon
I remember sections at Alagbon" ).


(I wish I could find his X-rated attack on President Ibrahim Babangida, but I can't remember the name of the song).
