@ nairalanda1 the worst part of being agbado is giving yourself excuses for making terrible choices. It’s like a woman living with a husband that is violently abusive saying her situation would be the same with the other suitors who wanted to marry her
It has nothing to do with being agvado to admit that we are coming to the end of the subsidy era

Keeping subsidy as it was before may 29 2023 would have left us with a subsidy cost of over 800 per liter. Our budget would have been in severe deficit by now

All I know is, GEJ should have told the ojota crowd to shut up and sit down in 2012.

What Nigerians knows how to do best is complain and complain then adapt. I said it in a post about 9 months ago , that all we do is complain and adapt. We aren't ready at all.

Peter Obi was the best candidate, no be lie, but let's be honest, under Obi, we would have had the same result.

By May 2023, the results of decades of borrowing to pay for subsides since the late 1970's was in, and we had a lot of debt from maintaining subsides, which, among other things, was contributing to debt eating 99% of our government revenue.

At the end, and please let's put politics aside, APC, PDP, LP and company, Igbo and Yoruba aside......how are you going to pay for subsides with debt servicing eating 90% of our revenue? Is it by miracle, or by more loans while we wait for the results of good policies.?

Whoever took over, we were in dire straits. Either subsides were removed, or we got into taking more loans...to the point where debt would be eating something like 150% of our revenue. Then we go see shege...real shege.

The annoying thing about this APC government is that they are still doing the same old looting, and same old sharing money, but vote in Obi, and nothing could be done....and even if he raised prices to N400 , it would just be what Buhari was doing all this time ....which worsened the debt situation in the first place...among other causes.

I effing hate to sound like I am defending this government, and lord knows I don't like being called an APC supporter, when I have not voted for either big parties since I started voting., and when I have been suspicious of tinubu since 2005 (when Gani raised questions about his certificate back then)....but in 2023, may... this is what was happening.

debt service was eating 90% of our revenue
Subsidy funding was going to run out by June ending...no matter what tinubu did...and the only way to get subsidy back was by either taking more loans, or removing it to get more extra money, and then using some of that to fund subsidy.

And even now the subsidy that tinubu brught back is causing us more issues...debt has risen again.

What magic would you perform to keep fuel below N200 Per liter, without taking loans and suchlike.?

AM sure you would call me agbado.......but we were in a shitty situation, and it was godawful. Make no mistake, vote Obi, vote Kwankwaso....it would have produced the same result re oil prices.

Yes, I am angry with APC, and they are useless.....but politcs aside, unless you have a pot filled with 130 trillion naira....no way we were going to keep fuel prices low.

The problem with Nigeria is that we keep making the same mistakes over and over again, whoever is in charge , because we don't want to do the right thing, and we don't want to end corruption.
I understand your point that the previous administration's policies contributed to the current economic situation. However, I strongly disagree that the current administration's actions are justified. The drastic increase in fuel prices (from #187 - #400 - #600 - #858 and now #1,030) has caused immense hardship for many Nigerians, and it's unfair to suggest that there was no alternative.

The fact that the government is still servicing debt and subsidizing fuel prices while the majority of Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet is unacceptable. It's not about magic solutions, but about prioritizing the needs of the people. The government needs to take responsibility for their actions and work towards finding sustainable solutions that benefit everyone, not just a select few.

Let's not forget that the government's policies have real-life consequences for Nigerians. We need to hold them accountable and demand better. It's time for a change, and we can't keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

So enough with the usual sermon you always post on here. You claim you don't support APC but you keep defending their anti people policies.

Thanks for polite and reasoned reply

The problem at the end of the day was that no government, whether it be obi or tinubu or even sowore, could have maintained subsidy on top of debt servicing eating 90% or more of revenue

It would have meant a large deficit in the budget which would have to be funded with loans , which in turn would have worsened our debt until we reach a place where we run out of money.

Then imf would step in and force us to actually remove all subsidies in return for loans.

At this point there was nothing that could be done.

That's why subsidy had to go in 2012. It was to prevent nonsense like this from hapoening. Most Nigerians sadly said no.

To keep fuel below 200 naira per liter would eat two thirds of our budget. Meaning no money to even pay basic salaries , talkless of looting

Apc is still worng for excess spending though. There is a reason why I never voted for them

Yes it would have been good to have a government cutting costs and corruption, but the amount of money needed to subsidies fuel so that it can, say , cost 200 per liter would have eaten two thirds of our budget.

That means a very heavy debt burden worse than what we have now.
