Maybe Tinibu wants to motivate Nigerians to aim high. 1 million naira now is like 50,000 naira under Jonathan.

Tinibu is like Mugabe who turned all Zimbabweans into billionaires. Although one loaf of bread was about 500 billion.

Add the 15trillion for the Coastal Road
Add the 21 billion for Renovation of the VP house
Add 150 Billion presidential jet
Add 5Billion for yatch
Add 90 Billion subsidy for Hajj

These are not just figures.
15 trillion is to be spent over some years..not all at once, so we can remove it.

The rest costs won't amount to one trillion. Subsidy costs over two.months were as high as 1.8 trillion, and that was when fuel was under 720 naira..

Right man on the job does not change 90% of revenue going to debt servicing and a low revenue from government.

To change that would have required decisions that this government is not ready to take

when the righteous rule, the people rejoice and when the wicked rule, the people mourn. It’s in the Bible. As far as I’m concerned, we will survive the sufferings in the land. In fact the price of pump price will increase beyond reducing it. In fact the exchange rate is increasing the sufferings too. All is well.

It's obvious that our leaders are demons realized by the ultimate evil...Lucifer to come here, ruin and then decimate the human race starting with the most populous black and vulnerable Nation in the world.

Our religious leaders and adherents have tried especially with their never ending prayers and fasting but Satan is an abomination, and he has his ways. He has destroyed races of people and civilizations. Satan has decimated planets and extraterrestrial worlds even beyond our galaxy and universe, although the actual details may never be known to man.

We are extremely unfortunate that part of his legion of abominable and foul demons is parading himself as president of Nigeria while he and his vicious cohorts perfect their mass annihilation project.

I have not finished my research yet but I have a few reasons to believe that BAT is a reincarnate of Arus the barbarian, an ancient but cruel extraterrestrial life form who at some point killed his father so he would be crowned as the ruler of his home world. He was called barbarian because of was bestial and people from his home world feared him a great deal.

He came to earth in a space ship with his 200 scientists in a space ship thousands of years ago and due to fact that our life expectancy index here on planet earth is very low and though they are immortals they cannot posses a particular body eternal as conditions of life here has made that impossible. This is why they preserve their immortal status by transferring their soul to new bodies when the old host becomes too aged to be alive.

One of his descendants also murdered his father here on earth to rule over the regions around the black sea and Mediterranean. Modern day indians and Arabs as well as Jews are their descendants.

Nice breakdown but the man made a huge mistake making market forces to define the Naira value. That was his decision and his mistake. On a normal, removing subsidy shouldn't have gotten us to this level of hardship.

nairalanda1:
Peter Obi was the best candidate, no be lie, but let's be honest, under Obi, we would have had the same result.

By May 2023, the results of decades of borrowing to pay for subsides since the late 1970's was in, and we had a lot of debt from maintaining subsides, which, among other things, was contributing to debt eating 99% of our government revenue.

At the end, and please let's put politics aside, APC, PDP, LP and company, Igbo and Yoruba aside......how are you going to pay for subsides with debt servicing eating 90% of our revenue? Is it by miracle, or by more loans while we wait for the results of good policies.?

Whoever took over, we were in dire straits. Either subsides were removed, or we got into taking more loans...to the point where debt would be eating something like 150% of our revenue. Then we go see shege...real shege.

The annoying thing about this APC government is that they are still doing the same old looting, and same old sharing money, but vote in Obi, and nothing could be done....and even if he raised prices to N400 , it would just be what Buhari was doing all this time ....which worsened the debt situation in the first place...among other causes.

I effing hate to sound like I am defending this government, and lord knows I don't like being called an APC supporter, when I have not voted for either big parties since I started voting., and when I have been suspicious of tinubu since 2005 (when Gani raised questions about his certificate back then)....but in 2023, may... this is what was happening.

debt service was eating 90% of our revenue
Subsidy funding was going to run out by June ending...no matter what tinubu did...and the only way to get subsidy back was by either taking more loans, or removing it to get more extra money, and then using some of that to fund subsidy.

And even now the subsidy that tinubu brught back is causing us more issues...debt has risen again.

What magic would you perform to keep fuel below N200 Per liter, without taking loans and suchlike.?

AM sure you would call me agbado.......but we were in a shitty situation, and it was godawful. Make no mistake, vote Obi, vote Kwankwaso....it would have produced the same result re oil prices.

Yes, I am angry with APC, and they are useless.....but politcs aside, unless you have a pot filled with 130 trillion naira....no way we were going to keep fuel prices low.

The problem with Nigeria is that we keep making the same mistakes over and over again, whoever is in charge , because we don't want to do the right thing, and we don't want to end corruption.

That market thing....it was a result again of us being in heavy debt.

Funnily enough, many of the people who were shouting at tinubu for losening the market, were telling Buhari in 2015 to do the same thing. Buhari said no, and his supporters then called people who suggested it imf people. Tinubu then backed what Buhari did

The problem was, at the end of the buhari rule, we were out of forex, and out of luck. We could no longer maintain naira at a cheap value, so...the government had to free the naira...and even then, they are doing some controls....because they are scared of being voted out or thrown out.

The main thing is that we are running an economy that does not bring in far more forex than we take out. Result is a naira that is so weak, and has been weak for decades, that in order to preserve the facade, we spent a lot of forex doing that. BY 2023, with debt being so sky high, the naira had to be floated.

Getting a strong currency means fighting corruption, raising tax revenue, and long term,.....develiping an exporting industrial economy. But such things takes time, and such things lose votes...so for APC...one step forward, three steps back.

APC Is only floating the naira because IMF won't given them free money anymore, as well as the chinese.

Cutting expensive lifestyle won't have provided enough funding for subsides

It cost the government 160 billion naira to buy cars for national assembly. Subsidy costs for the first six months of the year 2023 were around 6 trillion naira

The question you should be asking is what is government doing to make us more money, and to diversify our economy, and to actually fight corruption.?

The answer to all those questions sadly is...no.

It defies economic laws that we are now paying higher for a product which is sold in naira in its raw form to Dangote. No exchange rate fluctuations. So the hike is man-made. The government is actively benefitting from this. By the way, did T-Pain told you that he returned subsidies which resulted in increase in debt? Don't support evil men, my son.

.

Selling crude in naira was never going to bring down the price of fuel.

Crude is still priced in dollars, it is just being sold in the naira equivalent of the dollar cost, and yes, fluctuations in the exchange would affect the cost of the same crude.

PLUS, refining crude into petrol costs N800 at most. Factor in transport costs, most of it done on diesel trucks...diesel being expensive...and here we are.

That's why we should have removed subsidy since...1993, or even 2012, we would have been over the worst.

The government is actively benefitting from this. By the way, did T-Pain told you that he returned subsidies which resulted in increase in debt? Don't support evil men, my son.
Well, at the end, fuel has to be sold at a profit. Not selling fuel at a profit is a big reason why we lost four refineries, had massive corruption in NNPC, and ended up being a net importer of petrol.

Because under subsidy, fuel refining at home is not going to be profitable.
