This post is in response to the thread below about the high cost of fish in Nigeria. You can find the thread here
https://www.nairaland.com/8225493/see-what-experience-market-woman/1#132221604

Here are some fishes i bought fot just 12 pounds. They are 8 in number. I bought it alongside grinded ogbonno. You can see the grounded ogbonno in the transparent pack that cost about 4 pounds.

So i ended up spending 16.17 pounds in this African shop i went to. I also attached the receipt.

Guess what? The 8 fishes, i was holding one when i took d pix.. i got for 12 pounds is just an hour wage rate. This is what i am paid in just one our of working.

While converting the prices to Naira might be expensive the actual reality is how much effort is put to achieve that earning putting time factor into consideration.
I want to come and hustle in the UK. Can you help me please? I'll pay back all expenses you incure, please.

Even in Nigeria there are two types being sold in the market. One is smaller and cheaper. People keep calling it "fake". How can fish be fake bikonu?

The person that called mackerel sufferhead doesn't deserve a response. It is nutritious and we should be worried at how expensive fish is becoming in Nigeria.
cheesy cheesy cheesy

They dont know there are different species of mackerel.
We only use 2 I think. Mackerel is a generic name given to all the species of that family and they are many diff types of them. (We once had a heated argument here one time when people insisted tye name is titus. I was like wtf)
Please pardon him.

But our people dey try o.
Back then at home and I think it's still the same, we call it scumbia. Nobody call it mackerel. When I left igboland, I heard people calling it titus huh

I know it's not easy but don't blame the system instead look for what the system needs and look for ways to meet the demand.
There is still very high demand in health care.
Secondly, we look down on some handiwork yet they pay more than cert eg mechanic work, driver especially taxi. The Nigerian pride will not allow us do taxi job or mechanic. What will I tell home people. I have interviewed these people and honestly, if I had a choice now, I will forget my cert and become a driver. What of rail driver. Do you know that they take home more than band 8 nurse in some units and how many years will it take one to reach band 8? You may never reach 7 not to talk of 8.
Nursing is one of the least paid jobs in uk but readily available. Don't forget that blacks lose their pins for flimsy reasons more than any race every year.

Most time when I come across new immigrants, I usually lecture and advice them cos when uou miss it, it will take time for you to navigate back again and start afresh.
nursing is not one of the least paid job here but the exact opposite.

NHS and care home pay different rate. Care home pays higher, as high as 20 quid per hour. How is that one of the least?

no matter where e Dey live for uk 12 pounds an hour is chicken change and hard living. People wey dey make 100 pounds an hour Dey cry about hardship talk less of 12 an hour.
ofcourse that is a low quality, almost minimum wage income, we are not calling 12p big money. I have lived on almost minimum wage abroad in d past, in 2 countries, almost everyone did at some point, my honest opinion is that if someone that earns 12p lives like he earns JUST 12p, he would be still be far better than what Nigeria subject a lot of people to. For me its always about the possibility of being better placed in the next year. Ofcourse the idea of once u come abroad, u can make big money easily is a mirage, but even at that, the difference is still like day and night
About people earning 100 pounds an hour "CRYING" about hardship, what u should know is that every human being will grumble about increase in their expenses, billionaires are grumbling too,

In Lagos it is called titus.
SE calls scumbia. This is from my experience living in both regions. I used mackerel just to sound enlightened, else I tilt towards TITUS most times grin.

I have only seen 2 species in Nigeria. The fake and original. Hahaha! The fake isn't common in Lagos. You will instead see other types of everyday fish like panla (hake) and shawa (herring).

brother forget that thing oooo, you see grumbling and complaining is now an Olympic sport in Nigeria but when it’s time to eat you will see mr poor man eat 6 wraps of eba with 4 meat and 2 boiled egg. Don’t be deceived by peoples wailing it’s just something they love doing but truth is the average Nigerian is living well, it is when they japa and see real hardship in England that they start to long to return back home. It’s whe you travel out you will know you are enjoying in naija.
