Good things i mean things to make me leave like a human , living a modest lifestyle without depending on others. Being able to cater for family while saving up for my children to secure their future. Am not referring to king and queen lifestyle or the lifestyle of tinubu and ur nigerian politicians

Secondly not everyone eats meat..my doctors ask me to stay away from meat. Hope that answers ur questions
You said you owned houses in Nigeria and that you spent almost 50 million to relocate? Then you no be poor man for nigeria. That means you were affording the same thing with less stress back home. So why is that a thing of surprise or joy to you that same thing you afforded in Nigeria you dey do am for UK?

You dey work 12 hours a day for 6 or 7 days a week? That's the point there.
That kind stress no dey naija. And if you put same stress for naija, you go still afford same thing with ease.
Guy don't give people false impression to think abroad is easy.
Actually abroad is harder than Nigeria stress-wise. The only difference is, your reward is surebet
Mind you, I no dey Nigeria ooo. Check my profile if you doubt.

The current leadership and also the immediate past leadership did a poor job on the economy of Nigeria. Allowing the naira to depreciate driving millions of Nigeria below poverty line

I agree with everything said on the thread but the boldened. Our problems comes from getting back to democracy in 1999. Naira against $ was stable at less than N22 for years until Obasanjo came in in 1999. Go check the history.

Obasanjo came in, saw only 4.99 billion dollars Abacha left. The saved over 50 billion dollars plus. Paid over 12 billion to paris club and got our debt profile cleaned again.
Then if u get job in the bank.... U will afford the most basic. But today Buhari came and borrowed, tinubu is doing same

What about your house rent or you deh live for free for UK ni? Break down all these taxes make people sabi wetin deh happen. If you're a family man, house rent is between £900 to £1300, council Tax is like £150 to £200, you also pay bills for gas, electricity, water, internet.
Not everyone is paying up to 900 pounds for rent in the UK. Some 3 bedroom flats go for 600 pounds in the North

So literally, you could just subscribe for transport a week and then ride all week long.

Also, the subscription fee is like a few hours of the day job wages.

I want to believe he meant info, but then the info is worthless if you don't have the financial means.

To travel out now is extremely expensive, the only reason people still does is that the end always justify the means.

But getting the info is a good start too, plus your story is also a motivation.

I don't know the nature of your work in UK. But from Nigeria here I also earn pounds.

I'm not fully committed to the work because of my office work. But if I dedicate time, in a day sometimes I do earn up to £15. This is the side hustle that I used to compliment my salary. By God's grace at the end of the month 6 figure is certained

Since you're in UK you've up hand than me

I wish every legit hustler all the best in their endeavours.

Pls you're in UK, the economical home of all forms of tax. As you're contributing to build the economy of your province, don't forget to build/upgrade your home at home 🏘️ too.

May God 🙏 ease our affairs

Minimum wage announced is BASIC SALARY.

There is a payslip. And one of the components in the breakdown is basic salary.

Also, Nigerians almost NEVER rely on salary.

A filling station attendant can be living in his own house. Same goes for drivers, gatemen etc

How many people use cars abroad?

How affordable is fuel abroad?

How affordable is rent abroad?

How affordable is power abroad?

How debt-free are people abroad?

The 500 pounds savings you mentioned only has value in Nigeria

I enjoy 24hours power supply. My main roads are okay.
What is announcement is different from reality

Let's go back to old min wage, 30k, how many employers were able to pay even till date

You ve probably have not left MM airport before

You think £500 is useless like N50 000 in Nigeria. You can get used manual car in the UK for as low as £900. That should tell you that there are more people driving there and it could have been more if not for their rigorous process in obtaining driving license.

2. Fuel isn't only affordable, but it's not also available unlike what you have in Nigeria where generator n vehicles are competing for space at the filling station.

3. Power is affordable, you can even control how/when you use it. You don't get crazy bills or get charged for darkness. If you free to choose between pay as you use or monthly charged based on your meter readings.

4. Debt is relative. You can be in a prompt servicing debt that improves your credit score compared to urgent 2k debt with opay using your picture as obituary and sending threats to your contacts

How to lie to yourself as a Nigerian: I enjoyed 24hrs power and drive on a good road grin grin

Basic salary is 70k. The full package is 110k. Nigerians NEVER depend on salary. Most of the people earning minimum wage live in their own houses and drive their cars.

I work in a major industry by God's grace. I cherish it far more than any 'Mayguard' job abroad. It's unfortunate how you guys have lost your sense of purpose in life - just living to survive and pay bills.

One month rent is nothing in Nigeria. You may buy the car but bills you will incur for having it thereafter will send you to bankruptcy. Imagine how much you will pay just to park the car.

Dey play! Fuel is extremely expensive over there.
Not everybody stays in Lagos. Even then, power supply has improved. I don't even have a generator. My freezer is rock frozen. I stock cold stuffs for the month at least.

Despite being in Band A, I have capped my consumption at 15k per month. So where the crazy bills coming fromhuh

femi4:

Debt is debt! You are stuck!! You have been enslaved.

He is surely doing better than the average Nigerian on minimum wage like him but from his earnings, you didnt ask him about taxes. On £12 per hour and 10 hour work, he makes £120 per day. For even a 5 day work week, that is £600 per week. For a 4 week month, he earns £2400 per month and in 12 months, he earns £28,800 in a year.

On that amount, he pays 20% income tax, outside other taxes such as insurance, health, municipal, but let's stay with income tax; 20% is £5760.

Then, let us talk about rent, If he stays anywhere around London where accomodation is expensive, a studio apartment - what we call bedsitter here, is around £1000/1200 monthly in safe locations, if we go with the lower rent, annually he pays £12,000

Then utility bills will come in; power, internet, and maybe small groceries. Let's just put £150 on that per month, that's £1800 annually.

Now to the issue of transport and feeding, give or take, if he manages well, £200 should cover that monthly, implying that in one year, he would have spent £2400 on transport and food.

So what do we have left, outside other important necessities.
We have £28,800 - (£5760+£12,000+£1800+£2400) = £6840.

That's probably the highest he would save after a year's work if he us being very frugal. Unfortunately, that money can barely sustain him for 6 months if he is out of a work, in the UK where you rarely find anyone to aid or assist you, unlike here in Nigeria.

While he would obviously have a better sense of living in the UK than in Nigeria, he may end up frustrated after 2 to 3 years of staying within the same economic situation, which is not any different from what he ran away from.
Pure lies
Some of you just sit there and put jargons together

The least you can go home with in the UK after tax is £2000

To useless your analysis, a partner single handedly paid her hubby outstanding school fees of £8500 in 9 months

Food n transport is your least worry in the UK. You can't exhaust £200 on food if you eating their local foods and till date bus of £2 still exist.

So, to n fro in a week is £20, and £80 in a month

They come here and build mad houses back home.

And yet they do this same jobs for £12 hourly pay. Bro relax, what you don't know, you don't know.
Not saying they don't. But they have to pay for it over decades... embarassed
And then the bills they incur for owning such cars is killing.

It's still some of the benefits of being abroad bro.

You can get a 2022 model of Toyota and be cruising round while you pay small small over a decade.

But not in Nigeria, here in Nigeria most car users are still struggling with a 1998 - 2006 model cars

Imagine bro there's absolutely nothing a single government policy that we enjoyed in Nigeria, I mean nothing.

Dude nope. Read this again and again. I tell you from experience.
When you are legally living in the US, you don't need hourly pay job. All you need is find a skill - HVAC, Plumbing, Electrician, sales person. Learn am. Most company will hire you as apprentice with zero experience and train you for like 4 -6 months. Get you into a van, buy tools for you, and you grow and get your licenses through taking various exams.

These jobs, in most companies are commission based. They pay you based on how much you make the company. Within 2 years, if you are smart and hardworking, you will move up to sales technician, whereby you recommend replacing equipments for clients, and make 7 -10 percent on each sales. Sell a furnace and AC for like $30k, make between 2 to 3k dollars just within 2 to 3 hours.
You make $150k to 200k a year. Working less hour....
