Hello guys, happy sunday to you all.

Quick one, I would like to know your thoughts concerning an issue in an apartment I rented here in Abuja early this year. It is a 2 bedroom , live-alone apartment (just my family) on a half plot of land with some bananas in front of it.

A couple of weeks ago, the landlord and caretaker called me to tell me that they wanted to send someone to come and check if the bananas are ripe for them to come and harvest it, which I vehemently refused.

Lawyers in the house, kindly advise on this situation before it escalates. I believe it is my right to have exclusive or sole possession of the property so long as my rent is still active. What does the law say about this please? Am I wrong ? My children take care of these fruits daily by watering and clearing the place. I feel this is wrong from the landlord to do that.

Let them do it but u can tell them u needed some too

Just like the two commenters above me asked, who planted it? If you didn't, then you have no right over it unless the landlord says otherwise. Just a quck one, you rented the apartment and not the land, so for that, everything on the land still belongs to the landlord.

I see. I have witnessed a situation like this and in that case, the landlord was not bothered and allowed the new tenant to possess the plantain. In this case, you have a 'long throat' landlord, so here is my advice: If the landlord wants complete claim over it, just uproot it and tell him it is attracting reptiles to your apartment. Case closed!

This is someone that signed a document for me as the tenant to have exclusive right over the premises so long as my rent is still valid and someone who doesn't know about these matter is talking about death. Lawyers what does "exclusive rights" as a tenant mean abeg. Let me attach what I got from the Internet to know if it is correct

guy u can't do that without the landlord consent, what if he tells u he has fumigation machine worth millions in his house?

U better don't act on impulse else u go beg tire for avoidable mistakes

The landlord can lay claim on anything in that compound once u met it there

They can't stop tendering it because if they do, it will affect their safety and comfort in the premises. They must have to weed around it to ensure snakes and rodents don't take over the place.

The best solution here is for him and the landlord to show some form of humanity by simply sharing the proceeds together. Infact, he should harvest when ever he wants but also leave some for his landlord since he is interested in it.

what if d landlord simply tells him to leave if he's not feeling comfortable with the arrangement

With the way many of u are approaching issues here, if I were to b d landlord I will tell him to leave the house n return his rent

There are ways u approach this kinda issue n u can't b right in another man's home

The best way to make decision in this kind situation is to put yourself in the other person's shoes. Be sincere with yourself and make the right decision cos no advice you get from here will be better than your own resolution. The country is hard, if not how much be bunch of bananas before now wey landlord go dey follow u drag. But as everywhere don red, landlord had no option. There are some things you just let go if not, you loss more. The stress of packing from your house to another house is more than 10 bunches of banana.

U rented an apartment n u didn't pay for d land or lease the land. U r just a troublesome tenant who has a good landlord. If it were some, u will regret it. Just stick to ur tenancy agreement n stop coming online to look for what's not yours

I pity you. Onto a plant that you don't know the origin? Mr man, you have absolutely no claim to that plantain. Forget all your talk about clearing and watering... plantain no need watering before and do you want to stay in a compound without clearing it up?
I honestly wish you will take the advice of the werè that asked you to clear off the plant... then anything your eyes see after that, you take it like that. Wether it is the plantain you rented abi flat, you will come and tell us!
