danvon:I did not say there are no Yorubas who want secession. My opinion remains that majority of Yorubas do not want it and will prefer regional autonomy we thrived under in the days of Awolowo Etal. Yorubas are a reasonable and moderate people always balanced towards the rational centre rather than extremists to then be extreme left or right wing as the Igbos or Fulanis. The Igbos will shout secession yet the practicality of how they live expose them as hypocrites existential benefitting from 'one Nigeria' the most of all Nigerians. Northerners will not even want regional autonomy talk less of secession because they never believe in challenging themselves enough to consider models of socio-economic life that is not subsidized by Government Office, Government jobs (police, army, customs, immigration, etc), polical patronage, and FG largesse/contract/money. I once read a report, and I will try to find it, that concluded , with solid facts and statistics, one of the major problem of the North to be poor entrepreneurial zeal and acumen amongst ordinary Northerners. Crucial to understand the report is not talking of the likes of Dangote, the Bua's or Dantata. Yorubas understand that remaining in Nigeria, because of her physical size and population, can be an assert. As long as we tweak governance structure so regions with cultural and socio-economically homogenous outlook can have the freedom to craft initiatives and policies that continue to negatively impact and impede how they wish to live. In summation, Yorubas do not want regional autonomy against anyone. They want it so they can control their own socio-economic reality, direction and cumulative output rather than let regressive 'one Nigeria', that they know they are progressively and factually better off without, continue to shape their existence. Unless folks want to be dishonest, far too many reality of Nigerian life today proves the Yorubas are better than all other major ethnic group, i.e the Igbos, Hausa and Fulanis and are been hampered by them. It is mainly SS folks who match Yorubas in middle-ground reasonable conduct and productivity. Not a politically correct thing to say but the truth for those who don't do political correctness and are give to admitting truth proven by verifiable reality of Nigerian life today. |

If by any chance this is how you think, and this here is your summation about the Yoruba nation (I ain't referring to just "the Politico" ) Then, I'm afraid I'll have to conclude wholesomely that you're truly ignorant of the terrain you're hallucinating about. How many States do you think the Yoruba nation controls in Nigeria? Do you even know that Benin Republic did not release Sunday Igboho to the Nigerian government the way Kenya authorities did with MNK?. Well, I'll not say more than this for now, but somehow you'll soon begin to see the whole picture with clarity. But know this, and you're free to ask around; the Yorubas don't jump on any venture because of others, they're articulate and meticulous and strategic with their "plans". They don't just wake up and start shouting empty words like "saboteurs"and "marginalisation" like babies. Tochi3: |

KingPure:100% correct @ bolded. All Nigerians, even those who don't like them, know Yorubas are the most principled, most fair, most sensible and most reasonable of the big ethnic groups of Nigeria. As per the rantings off the annoying kid you quoted, ignore him in future. He is shameless and delusional as most Igbos are. Who takes Igbos seriously in Nigeria. People boarding buses in their thousands daily to start new lives in the SW yet unseriously and hypocritically shouting Biafra and secession up and down for the past 50 years. They don't understand when trying to shade Yoruba, as the character you quoted attempts to do, that they are the laughing stock and big-for-nothing ethnic group of Nigeria. |

T8ksy:I don't like your type You just gave up on your country without even giving it a try That others have failed doesn't mean you should When I read your type of submission, saying NOBODY CAN SAVE NIGERIA I laugh at your defeatist nature Surely Nigeria is better off without people who don't believe in it and it's potential They can take up citizenship in places where there are no issues, and such places don't exist on planet earth |

What government should do is to buy some plots of land around central Africa republic from UN, so that all those that wants to leave will be allowed to go and set up their country there. From my knowledge of history, former brothers in a country that break up into separate countries are never able to live peacefully together. Ukraine/Russia, South Korea/ North Korea, India/Pakistan, Serbia/ Kosovo, South Sudan/ North Sudan, Etiopia/ Eritea, the list is endless. so it is better to take them very far away so that they do not end up fighting endless wars. |

Once in a while there's need to peruse just the surface of things so they don't keep taking things for granted, and talking as if they own the history of others just because of the magnanimity of the Yorubas to accommodate every "Tom"and "Jerry" in their land. UltraSolid: |

America break up from Britain or you mean got their independence? Even if it was a breakup, which is of course wrong, are they neighbors? All the countries I referenced are all neighbors and were one country before. Smartcitizen: |

Difrent:I don't believe that either but he is justified somewhat being pessimistic because Nigeria, as convened, is only destined to get far worse and implode eventually. Nigerian as she is currently is only set up to satifisty the corrupt, the lazy, devilish, criminal, evil and greedy people. If we do not return to a regional system that will be easier and more effective, because it will make Nigerians more motivated and hard-working, then we are heading toward a terrible fate. Nigeria, at best is a nation like a kitchen where everyone shows up to eat daily with the politicians and government officials eating lavishly while throwing crumbs at poor and ordinary Nigerians. In such a system, who will learn to cook? No one. Not leaders nor followers. Yet burn that kitchen down and split leaders and followers into homogenous groups (regions) who must go out and find their own food or starve, you will see people using skills they never knew they Had to find and cook good food for themselves. Every region became lazy unproductive and demotivated when crude became the sole focus. It will always remain that way in this worthless unitary system that has destroyed Nigeria, left us with a near mono-economy, mainly focused on crude income, and horribly bloated and wastefully unwieldy political system full of many political jobber contributing nothing while stealing fortunes that should be the commonwealth of all Nigerians. A return to a regional system is the only way to get Nigerian regions to go back to finding, exploiting and relying on their assets to thrive and develop. Awolowo did so much with Cocoa money yet look at how worthless Nigeria is despite crude wealth with Yoruba land now worse off than when she relied on Cocoa wealth. Nigeria, upon return to unitary system under Ironsi, has been plundered mercilessly by a rapacious, mentally lazy and ungodly set of people. Things will only get worse if we are all not brave and resolute enough to do the right thing. |
