PHCN has a system that allows them to deduct 10% of your electricity recharge until the outstanding arrears is paid off. This should help fix this issue. |

Nwodosis:I BELIEVE YOU DIE BECAUSE THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO ME. I applied for a new meter for my tenant (two of them have been sharing a meter for a while and I wanted to separate them) and was told I'll have to separate the account so I did separation of account. It took 3 weeks for a new account number to come out and when it did, it came with an estimated billing of 38k. I used the account number to process a meter and got the meter the following month. It took about 8 plus weeks total for everything to come together. Guess what, Ikeja Electric billed me 76k for light wey I not use. They said that is how it is being done. I wrote to my marketer's supervisor requesting an adjustment because I DID NOT USE THE LIGHT. Na on top adjustment we dey now. IE na scam company. That is how they make their money. P.S I carried my tenants along. Now, the one I got the meter for isn't interested in sharing the debt with me. The meter is there and hasn't been connected. Make dem dey share their meter dey go until dem grant me adjustment and I pay whatever balance is on it. I AM PAINED, I won't even lie. |

okine4real:You're right. Estimated billing in my area is 38k. Not NERC cap o. Just Wetin IE dey do because they are a useless organisation. I got the billing twice before my meter arrived and it amounted to 76k. I have requested an adjustment. When I'm ready, I will drag my marketer and her supervisor and tell them to use NERC cap to bill me instead of the ridiculous 38k a month. Let me tell you another funny story, I want to replace an old prepaid meter in my compound. Those first generation ones that innoson made. They said to report it as faulty so that they can come connect the light directly and give me at least a month's worth of estimated billing before I can apply for a new meter. In other words, I can only apply for a replacement after they've certified the old meter as faulty and they've connected me directly. "What if I don't want to be connected directly? Just commot light from meter make I apply and wait till a new meter gets here." They said it is not possible. I HATE IE LIKE CRAZY. I HATE ALL OF THEM IN THAT USELESS ORGANIZATION. |

Freethought:It happened in my apartment. I got a new place and moved in, it's a new building entirely. The prepaid meter that came had arias of over 50k, like yours. With a preload of almost 2k(units that came with the meter). So we were asked to pay the arias of that 50k but we declined, we can't pay for what we didn't use. It was a bit of an issue for a few days. Long story short, our andlord wrote to PHCN to rectify that arias. It's was finally done but we paid the preload of that 2k with 50% anytime we buy units, until the 2k was cleared. So, only your landlord can take it up with these PHCN guys. If he acts unconcern, it will be your debt to pay. But trust me, that's wrong! |

I had an experience like this once and I totally agree with you. The 53k debt is the debt from the estimated bill, it was simply transferred because the prepaid meter is using the same meter never with the estimated bill. The landlord probably collected a new prepaid with a. We account for himself. Each time you pay for your prepaid, the money is divided 60-40 and you get 60 while 40 goes for the debt. You can simply hold a meeting with legal practitioners with your landlord present so you can have an agreement with him on how to share to money you will be paying by 60-40 ChybuzzDD: |

dinero101:nothing concern the landlord with the bill. The landlord open the account for the tenant, the tenant is to pay the bill. The only place i fault the landlord is, immediately he opened the new postpaid acc, he should have removed the tenant from the prepaid immediately and put the tenant on the direct line. Its either the landlord no sharp or the landlord wanted to pay a smart one by collecting money from the tenant while the tenant was on the prepaid line and then still leave the debt on the postpaid for the tenant. |

I live in a house where the landlord recently installed a prepaid electricity meter for me and another tenant. Before this single meter was installed, both of us had been paying our estimated electricity bills regularly. After the new meter was installed, we noticed it had a debt of N2m+ on it. We later found out that this debt came from the landlord’s sawmill business in his name, but he still went ahead and installed the same meter for us tenants to use. He got another one for his own apartment and wife's shop which has a debt of 200k+ on it (meter by installment). Since the debt was already on the meter, we couldn’t recharge it or load any new electricity token. I called the DISCO to ask why, and they explained that the reason we can’t buy tokens is probably because of the large debt attached to the meter. Tried 12k, 14k, 16k but none went through. Because of this problem, I disconnected from the meter, connected to direct, and applied for my own personal prepaid meter, which is still being processed. Yesterday, the landlord told me to go to the nepa office to settle the issue with the indebted meter. He also said that nepa guys will soon come around to check for illegal connections or meter bypass. He wan make me help am dey offset him incurred debt of N2m+ |
