Five officers of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have died in a road accident at the Hawan Kibo area of Jos-Akwanga highway in Plateau state.

Olusola Akinboyewa, the NAF spokesperson, said in a statement that the officers died in a road accident on Tuesday while travelling for a sporting event in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The NAF spokesperson said the vehicle conveying the officers collided with a truck.

“The unfortunate incident occurred around Hawan Kibo along the Jos-express road,” the statement reads.

“Our personnel were heading for a sporting event in Abuja when their vehicle was involved in a collision with a truck.

“Consequently, statutory administrative protocols applicable in circumstances as this have been activated by the NAF to provide comfort and succor to the bereaved families.

“We appeal to the public to respect the privacy of the victims’ families during this difficult time and to refrain from sharing unverified details. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”

Despite the tragic loss, the accident was avoidable if only government could fix that death trap called Hawan Kibo. The road was constructed during Gowon’s time and since then the road has been in a condition of disrepair.

All the past governors in the state have been using the“it’s a federal road” excuses to avoid fixing the road. No efforts were made by any governor, ministers, senators or House of Representatives members from the state past and present to lobby the federal government to fix the road.

The current governor is sending condolences to the people of Adamawa because high ranking military officers were involved. Countless people have died on that road without any acknowledgement from the state government or condolence messages.

Other factors killing people on that road are
👉Poor road condition.
👉over-speeding
👉Poor maintenance culture of most commercial drivers.
👉Driving attitude of most commercial drivers on that route, who always give themselves a targeted time of arrival for most of their trips.

May the souls of the departed rest well.
