I read all these editorials that Ijaw activist, Adaka Boro declared "Niger Delta Republic" in early 1966, and I laugh. Some compare it with Ojukwu declaring Biafra

For those who may not know, Adaka Boro only made a declaration, there was never anything called Niger Delta Republic. If I like I can go my backyard right now and declare "Enugu Republic", it does not mean anything. Even Fela Kuti once declared his compound to be an independent country called "Kalakuta Republic"

Felas own is even better, at least we knew Fela's compound. To this day, nobody even knows what area Boro was declaring to be a Republic, nobody has ever seen a map of it, nobody knows where it is.

So stop comparing Ojukwu with a joker like Boro. Representatives of all 20 provinces of the Eastern Region voted that the Region be declared a seperate country. Everyone has seen the map of Biafra, everyone has seen the Biafran currency, I can sing the Biafran anthem

Whether you like it or not, Boro is a respected person in Nigeria today than Ironsi or Ojukwu. Boro remains a hero that's celebrated by the Ijaws and Nigeria. Boro cared so much about his people and made sure that even during the war the level of massacre that occured in Asaba & Enugu did not happen in Port Harcourt and the entirety of Old Rivers State.


Boro fought the Igbos for a justifiable course. Ojukwu and Ironsi did all they did just because of mere greed.

Formation of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force: Boro formed an armed militia, the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, comprising mainly of Ijaw ethnic group members.

Battle with Federal Forces: The Niger Delta Volunteer Force clashed with federal troops for 12 days, from February 23 to March 6, 1966.

Defeat and Arrest: The rebellion was ultimately crushed, and Boro and his comrades were arrested and charged with treason.

Sir Louis Ojukwu died from heartbreak caused by his wayward son.

Adaka Boro did not have any problem with any other nationality in Nigeria besides you Ibos.

He knew what was the motivation and reason for the Jan 15 coup and he acted justly to seccede from a Nigeria that had fallen into Ibo dictatorship - something he knew very well of.
