The opposition to the comprehensive tax reforms has started. I have come to a realization that those threatening PBAT with votes did not get the memo. The man is not allowing Second term distraction to derail his focus of beheading our MEDUSA. Fuel subsidy ✔️ Naira float✔️ LGA autonomy ✔️ Rewriting tax code✔️ Reviewing obsolete laws🔜 I said it before that President Bola Tinubu is laying a structural foundation for the sustainable development of Nigeria's economy and the number one thing I mentioned was his fiscal and tax reforms. |

How does this make sense. Vat are sales tax and companies don't charge vat on sales to other businesses. If the manufacturer in a state A sells goods to other company. In it tax report those sales have 0 vat but if manufacturing company directly sells it products in state B to consumer then the vat is included in it tax report for that state. If it sells the product to another company that then sells it to consumer the other company in it tax report includes those Vat sales |

They are right on this. VAT is equivalent to consumption tax and be paid where goods are consumed and not where it was produced Fiscus105: |

State and region that don't allow the sale of alcoholic drinks and consumption shouldn't enjoy the tax from it too. Eg the Northern states. |

But why do these people behave as if the reasoning part of their brain has been evaporated. You're against alcohol, not just against it but destroy such products...... Where were your taskforce when those items were brought into your state, why not send them away but you allowed them in cos your devilish act, which is to destroy but you want to be part of the gain from such profit all in the name of equity and fairness which was not in place in doing business...... |

dominic17:Let every state thinks outside box, ......how to make his state peaceful and viable for companies to establish headquarters thr ok. You make state toxic for investment and still want to enjoy at same par with state that struggling day and night to bring investors. Many of these states, both north and south east, their political gladiators would burn down the entire state just because they are not happy with power at centre, yet they would be grumbling wen things aren't rosy economically for their States. |

LandMann:You are just an ignorant noisemaker. The Governor who typed this nonsense is from Gombe state. This is the same Gombe that was begging shamelessly when Wike took up the FG on VAT and got judgements in his favour. The only way only Northerners will be ruling is when Nigeria divides. Otherworldly, power MUST rotate between North and South. Till then, suck it up. Just so you know. The FG doesn't need the North to cooperate on this tax bill. Remittance is largely digital based on data mining, filing and assessment based on banking transactions. You think they will be carrying sticks to chase taxpayers. By the time you only get allocation based on what you collected and get zero allocation for 6 months, you will come back to your senses. |

We have a lot of ignorant people pretending to be educated but they knew nothing. VAT is consumption tax. So it is deducted at the final point of transaction (customer). Now Nigeria have 36 state + FCT. A single company located in Kebbi just processing Rice have an annual 800 billion naira sales that's 60 billion naira tax remitted to the federation just from VAT. Not to talk of other company and contractual taxes. Unfortunately the company producing these products and generating these sales is fully located in Kebbi state but it is under another services company headquartered in Lagos state. So all these 60 billion Tax will appear as Lagos state VAT collection. This is the crux of the matter not Alcohol issue. This is why Lagos state have huge revenue collection at the detriment of other states. I am sure the Northern states will have no issue if alcohol taxes are removed from their state VAT as they know they don't allow sales or consumption of alcohol (legally at least). And come to think of it all those talking about alcohol taxes are interestingly ignorant that they can't reason that what those northern caucus are seeking for is exactly what you are claiming should be done but because it is rocket science to them they are just talking up and down and disgracing their society ![]() VAT is shared according to remittance so in a state that have zero remittance on alcohol zero amount is expected to be given for that. |

No. Those northern states practicing sharia law must not be allowed to benefit from VAT generated from sales and consumption of alcoholic drinks, beer, cigarettes etc. Those guys are spoiling business for beer companies. They must not be allowed to eat their cake and have it. Whatever will happen let it happen. |

Newsmills:it's because they are smart.... Take bayelsa and delta for example, their leaders don't invest in infrastructure, they prefer to share the money.... Then they tell their people that the money is not enough and that northerners are the ones eating their money.... Common jigawa fine pass bayelsa and delta |
