Nigerian Foods You Can Export To The US, UK & Canada by DyshApp(op): 11:39pm On Oct 29, 2024
The "japa" movement has inspired many Nigerians to seek opportunities abroad, especially in the US, UK, and Canada. While adjusting to life overseas, they often miss the tastes of home, creating demand for authentic Nigerian foods. Nigerian cuisine, loved for its rich flavors, appeals to both Nigerians abroad and food enthusiasts. As demand grows for Nigerian ingredients, here are foods worth exporting:

Yam Flour
Yam flour, created by drying and grinding yams, is essential in Nigerian cuisine, particularly for preparing Amala, a cherished staple often paired with traditional Nigerian soups. It's light, has a long shelf life, and is naturally gluten-free, making it appealing to health- conscious consumers globally.

For export, ensure your yam flour is packaged and processed according to international standards. Highlight its gluten-free quality to attract both African and international customers.

Palm Oil
Palm oil plays a crucial role in many West African dishes, delivering a distinct, authentic flavour that's difficult to substitute. Beyond cooking, it's also commonly found in cosmetics and wellness products. Nigerian palm oil, when sustainably and ethically sourced, holds strong appeal in Western markets.

Ensure that your palm oil is certified as sustainably sourced, as environmental considerations are increasingly important to Western consumers. Additionally, make sure it meets FDA and EU regulatory standards for successful export.

To make money from this business, I think you should export them in large quantities. If not, the cost of freight will take all your gains.

A small tuber of yam is 25-30$ here in Toronto. That’ is 1 small yam is $30. There’s money in food business.

Legally yam cannot be exported as a matter of fact the penalty for exporting yam is death....

I believe the National assembly is working on some of these old laws.
Note that these laws can be actived anytime and send you to jail....

I will advice you wait for the National assembly to conclude on the issue...

Or why do you think Nigeria produces about 60% of yam globally but less than 1% export.

Why do you think it was so easy for the government to seize the truck load of food items at the boarders when the food scarcity started....

No reason am. There so many hidden laws the government activates them when they want to.

wisepigeon:
Bullshit!
This is the problem with you Nigerians.
You could have even googled it to do your own findings.
As a matter of fact yam is just one of the many food items.

In such a case, the farmers would prefer to export abroad while home suffers. This is where custom will put high charges to discourage them.
