Second cylinder was started today by him......when I told him to calculate everything sold from first cylinder based on daily record book ....it felt short of 10kg

From the sales from second cylinder that started today, The account book does not tally with what is remitted through ATM/POS mode of payment .....I dint know this until I checked my Moniepoint acct as I got home now cos my phone was dead before I went to the shop this evening

Even the POS part of the business does not tally with the cash I gave him this morning for people who need cash withdrawal
.
I'm boiling right now realizing the boy had lied to me when balancing the account this night using the record book, only to get home and power my phone to see cash fell short of 23k in my monie point acct linked to the POS

How do you handle boys who think they are smarter than you because theyve been in the business before?

And what are your experiences with dishonest workers in your business , especially this gas retail business or POS business

This same POS n gas business was what wrecked me in d year 2023 n till now I am just trying to recover

Naturally gas can never b complete, if u fill 50kg the max u will see there is 48k so automatically there's always a shortage of 2kg n if u come meet dishonest boy u go hear am

It got so worst then that I bought a separate POS terminal for gas cos the boy was always mixing account up for POS n gas so I told him if anyone want to buy gas using card use this terminal n d second terminal is simply for POS withdrawal n transfer

After everything na me still cry, the best advice I will give u is to b dere yourself, don't employ people to run POS n gas shop for u cos it is highly immeasurable n the quickest escape route for sales boy is that gas leaked n even police will tell u it's possible

The greatest advice about that business is if u can't run it yourself don't start it

Not enough reason, infact there shouldn't be any reason to steal or empty anyone's shop. I am only pointing out some reasons for the root cause of such actions and at the same time stating the obvious solutions for a preventive measure.

On the contrary, don't sack him. Simply tell him you know he has been stealing from you, also tell him the estimated amount. Tell him you've forgiven him for that, but if it happens again, you will have him arrested and he will pay back all the money.

This might work psychologically. It might prompt him to try to get in your good books and totally change.

You kidding right? Until he sells the shop right? The best thing is to let him go. Is like forgiving a cheating partner.

If you arrest him, you will spend more than that 38k to pursue the case and you will not get your money back. Just go and disengage him to prevent further losses.

And I was even thinking of employing a salesgirl in this my small business, now am having second thought.

Count your lost as the price you pay to learn due diligence is the key to hiring someone you know nothing about .... not tribal sentiment ... Anot appearance ...we speak the same language .... not luck ...I decided to take the chance with him ... that's gambling and in gambling you have to be prepared to lose ... you lost ... so why complain? Look in the mirror and you'll see the problem.

There is nothing to fume about. Just pretend you don't know yet.
We dont know how much you agreed with him to pay him monthly as salary.
Because if he has already mismanaged or stolen much more than his salary then you need to fire him now and no need for payment.
If in 7 days he can do tgis kind of magic you can imagine what he can do to yoyr business and to you in 30 days and 365 days.

Do u think CCTV will be effective to solve this problem? U r very funny.
Meanwhile, how much do u think wireless CCTV cost?
Do u know the it will also be subscribed for data?
How much is the business making for it to be able to carry such expenses.
If his business is not located at a place prone to robbery, he may not need CCTV now.
What he needs now is good control measure that will make the staff find it very difficult to steal from him.
There should always be opening balance and closing balance reading/weighing. Every transaction must be written in the book. Amount, Kg etc.
He should also make the staff sign undertaking for any financial or material loss.

Then for the POS business, unless if the owner of the business is careless. He can monitor all the transactions wherever he is so long as he has the POS app in his phone.
I have POS outlets and I don't need a personal contact with my staff to render account. Once they close, they inform me. I will tell them to render their accounts to me through Whatsapp. I crosscheck with the POS App and tell them to go and submit their money to the person that collects it Which will be deposited into my account.

CCTV is not needed to deter the guy from stealing from his boss.
Seems the guy knows the business more than his boss.

Something similar happened to me recently. With my online betting, I could only use one betting account at a time. So I employed a VA, on monthly pay, paid for software subscription, provided an Android phone for him. All he had to do was place bets continuously. On seeing the account grow from $700 to $1850 greed began to set in. He started backing high odds and laying them just to transfer the money from my betting account to an exchange account linked to him. Surprisingly 2 of his back bets with 4.60 odds won. I immediately terminated his job, collected my phone, and confiscated the proceeds of his won back bets. Looking forward to building, or paying for a bot. I won't do VA again.

3 weeks ago, my Bros's trusted driver that drives his van, someone he trusted so much and spoke well about. Anyway, some folks bought some stuff and needed a van. I introduced the driver. He charged 40k to drop off for them. 2 weeks later those folks came around and needed a van again. I reminded them of that driver, they said ohh great, they like the fellow, that infact when he delivered for them, at their location, someone else rented the van and did 2 trips for 40k each ie 80k. That meant a total known earning of 120k for that day.
Anyway, I got speaking with my bro and we discussed about his van and he said business was slow, I told him of that date and he was shocked, that his driver did not declare N1! Howwww?? He went on to check his tracker records and confirmed the movement before confronting the man. Meanwhile this same driver was requesting for some money to change brakepads and it was when he came to collect, he was confronted.

This happened when I opened a viewing centre and employed a boy that his uncle begged me to give a job since he was jobless..I agreed also because I was working and won't be able to be managing the business full-time because of my work, and in less than 1 month, this business closed down. The boy stole the business dry. I had to arrest him, they beat the hell out of him after arrest, then I sold the business, counted my losses and moved on

Thank God for my lil sis, she doesn't steal from me, even tho I dont even pay her, this my sister had even borrowed me for her sch fee money make I put for my bizness, as I speak I owe her 940k. I don't pay her salary, tho she said make I no pay her, make I use built more. The only thing I do is if she needs something I do it for her. I just jealous of any man way go marry her. If u see how she dey take my bizness, ppl go think say na my wife.

All over the world, finding good workers is not easy.
You need the following minimum requirements

Profile picture
Verifiable address any cell phone.
References, not guarantor.
One period pay withheld
Clear cash handling policy in workplace.
Wages are paid directly to bank account.

This is not foolproof but will help you in making your business move forward.

Just 38k just thank God say u quickly find out,
Anything u want to do as a biz, if u no go get time to monitor it urself, abeg no do ham...
Better still if u have a sibling/wife that can manage it, it doesn't mean ur sibling/wife no go take ur money. But he/she no go run u down, unna go dey chop the money together, cos on a norms if ur sibling/wife need money u go give normal normal.

Still if u don't have any siblings/wife that can manage it and u no get time to manage it, pls don't even start it.


I have a similar experience but a very bad that nearly break me, I have cyber Cafe and pos stand in thesame shop. The place about 40km to where I settle, onto say I newly got married. I put this guy; I notice for about a year nothing reasonable is coming out, this is a place that u may even work midnight sometimes oo.

I decided to start going thr Sunday evening and return Thursday or Friday. I now look like the sale boy thr, but I neva mind.

B4 I know nothing this guy buy machine exact one we are using, rent a shop in thesame street not even upto 3 poles to my shop and inform the customers that he will be opening another shop soon that they should be coming there. He drives all the customers

Na so the guy used me oo.

For now it's my sister that stays thr, the shop is now 2 self, not long ago she bought a phone whort 380k...
And that pleases me than outsider carrying my money

Towing this path, U go spend more .only without result.

Just monitor him strictly, balance account everyday before he leaves till his next payday, then U either remove part of Ur funds he stole from his salary.

My bro, Nigerians mentality (majority) is to kill the owners business and start there own.
So let me give you a few tips as a financial analysis.
Always do daily stock count (opening and closing stock.

Never miss business with pleasure

Always pay your staff early and on time to remove the zeal to steal from you.
Practice ghost buying.( you send someone who your staff don't know to come buy from you and check if the monies reflects in your sales record)
Appreciate them for hardwork and punish them for laziness.

I can remember when I served someone though it wasn't pos. I worked for this woman for three years and when I wanted to leave to further my education because that was why I was working. She promised to pay my fees as long as I come over when I am free and help as much as possible. This woman paid for my first three years in university. I really appreciate her. It's good to be honest. She even cried when I was leaving. 😌

When , I get such workers, I make them eat their eye for trying be a smooth criminal.

Get a policeman, pay him to give him a serious torture after arresting him if he refuses to return the stolen funds.

That was how a girl was using my sister's POS business to do Sara. Within 1 month, my sister lost 180k.

She just asked her to go. She started working for another person just less than a week with that person, she lost 100k. The woman arrested her straight out and her parents reached a bargain to pay her

Actually, he is smarter than you. How do you trust someone within a week, thereby leaving everything in his hand? Did you inform him that in business, the owner don't run at loss (i.e penalty of shortage before he was employed)? If yes, then go to past sales record before his resumption, then do this.
Open to those records, ask him to calculate it for him to know you have being running that business and you know what you are saying. If can't account for the loss, either you fire him or you deduct from his pay. If you decide to go with the second option, inform him because it is negligence or fraud on his part.
