Please, I have challenge with my gear box. This is a tokunbo car I bought last year 2023. I was travelling and noticed there is a delay in engaging the gear but when I returned.

I took it to my mechanic to help me check what the problem is. He said the gear gear oil is very bad and needs to be changed. He changed the gear oil, the oil filter and serviced the body valve and coupled back the gear box. The car movement become worse and another mechanic checked it and said the old mechanic that serviced the body valve damaged the body valve. That I should buy a new body valve.

I am confused whether to buy a new gear box or buy the gear body valve. Please anyone with experience should help me out, is there any disadvantage of buying a new gear box or to buy a new body valve to check if my old gear will work?

If you can afford it just buy new gear box, the new mechanic want to appear to you as honest man so that you can fall into his traps. After falling into his traps that's when you will know all mechanic are the same. Repairing gear box in reality has no any long time guarantee apert from spending money anyhow without success

I may be wrong, I hope the gear box was not opened when it was still hot.

My Corolla had gear problem. I sold it eventually.

The buyer said he was going to buy another gear for it.

I agreed with him because I was constantly spending money on gear until I became tired.

No I parked it at the mechanic workshop overnight before he started working on it

I am still really confused. I don't want to try buying gear and fall into the hands of already repaired gear, whereas I can repair mine.

Please before doing anything to your car, especially gear box (transmission), always read about the problem online so as not to fall victim to all these untrained/trial and error mechanics.
Did you buy the transmission fluid yourself or your mechanic bought it and changed the fluid? It may be he bought a fake fluid

Replace the valve body first, sometimes it's the debris from old gear oil usage that just blocked the valve body. Ive replaced valve body on my gears and gear worked perfectly fine.

Hope the transmission oil you used is Toyota ATF WS from what's on specification, I checked on the web. You would have checked the trouble codes too to give you hint of what is wrong.
Lastly, a whole lot of these guys claiming to fix transmission will end up wasting your time and resources and you still end up buying fresh transmission.

Sometimes it takes the grace of God to get a tokumbo parts, most of them are reworked parts.
