MiddleDimension:Very poor interpretation. Firstly, where you quoted isn't correct, the story there is about Tamar, Absalon sister. Secondly, considered David always obey God, he never took any of those you mentioned as wives because God already said, YOU MUST NOT TAKE A WIFE ANY OF THOSE YOU MEET IN THE LAND, God doesn't contradict himself. Finally, David took wives according to his own will, look at Ist Samuel 25 vs. 38 to 42. And don't forget, 1 King 11 vs 4 |

femi4:He never said anything about marriage but divorce! In Matthew 19:3-9, Jesus was not speaking about polygamy. Rather, He is only answering a question about divorce. Indeed, the entire passage is about divorce, not polygamy. "Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” Matthew 19:3-9. Indeed, in Matthew 19:8-9, Jesus simply repeats the Deuteronomy 24:1 "as it had been in the beginning", that God has always been against divorce of what He joined together. In Matthew 19:3, the Pharisees were asking about "every" reason for divorcing, but Jesus returned back with the only one allowed reason (the woman's "fornication / uncleanness" , as per Deuteronomy 24:1.Polygamy is about marriage, whereas divorce is about breaking up marriage. Accordingly, Jesus was not speaking against pro-marriage polygamy in Matthew 19. He was instead addressing marriage-destruction of divorce. It was about divorce, not polygamy. |

kissdabride:You're the one confused here. Both polygamy and tithing are part of the Old Testament laws. You mentioned that Jesus praised the woman who gave her last penny as tithe. This seems to indicate that his coming didn't change these old laws, doesn't it? For ages, polygamy was a cultural practice among the Israelites, but they later shifted towards monogamy for various reasons, not because polygamy was explicitly forbidden. When Jesus arrived, he observed monogamy as the prevalent practice and didn't waste his time criticizing the old polygamous tradition. Jesus was a Jew, no religiously well-versed Jew would ever consider polygamy a sin. Instead, it's always been viewed as a personal choice, just like monogamy. Peace! |

Jokerman:Very good, this is the verse those who peddle the lie that christianity forbids polygamy bring up. But I can tell you your understanding is COMPLETELY OUT OF PLACE AND YOUR GOD IS NOT HAPPY WITH IT! First of all, in that verse there, he was not talking about polygamy or how many wives a man can or cannot marry. How you saw prohibition of polygamy there, is beyond me! Divorce was the tooic of discussion! Secondly, who told you by that verse, Jesus was saying only one man and one woman were made at the beginning? To say so, is to call Jesus a ignorant! Lets find out to your astonishment and amazement that it was not just Adam and Eve God made at the beginning hence your understanding that Jesus was refering to just two people there is wrong In Genesis 4 when God cursed Cain, Cain cried out: ''Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. Gen 4 vs 14. So, the question is: who were the ''anyone'' Cain was refering to if all God made at the beginning was just Adam and Eve? If he made only Adam and Eve, and they both had Cain and Abel, then they should only be four people in the whole of earth and the ''anyone'' Cain spoke of should not even come up at all. But that's not even the most astonishing part. God, who knows it all, confirmed that Cain's fears are real when he said: ''And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.'' Gen 4 vs 15. Remember that God knows it all. So, if Cains fears were unfounded, he would have told him no one is out there, since I only made two people who gave birth to only two of you and now that you have killed your brother, only three of you are left. But no, he did not say that, he told Cain, anyone who kills you, will recieve several times your punishment! Of course, God said it in Chapter 5 that Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters. But thats not before Cain was cursed! And it is absurd to think that the people Cain was refering to were his brothers and sisters! Remember the curse was that he was going to wander about in the wilderness before coming in contact with those who might kill him! His close kins are not the ones he would run into if he roamed about far away from his parent and his familiar terrain! Also, in vs 17 of chapter 4, it is recorded that Cain went into exile, got married, founded a CITY! Just one or two people won't make up a city, can they? So, in the light of the above, it is absolutely wrong to interprete matt 19:4 to mean that Jesus was saying that the ''two'' God made in Genesis is just one man and one woman, Adam and Eve. To say this is to contradict the bible which says: ''Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him.'' Gospel of John 1 vs 3. In colosians 1 vs 16, it says: ''For through him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through him and for him.'' In the light of the two scriptures above, we can see clearly that Jesus having, along side the father and the holyspirit, created Adam and Eve himself #LetUsMakeManInOurOwnImageAndLikeness, knew very well that they were not the only ones he made at the beginning. As a result of that, in matt 19vs 4, he was not by telling you ''he made them male and female'', was refering to just numerical 2 people. The best interpretation of that passage matt 19vs4, is that he was saying he madr two genders: male and female. Another point: Even if he was refering to just numerical 2 people only, that verse still does not prohibit polygamy. I hear you ask how that can be. Well, let me show you... The reason for that is: the marriage between a man and all his wives is a one on one basis, not a mega union! The bible likens the marriage between a man and a woman, to the relationship between God and Israel, Jesus and his church, or Jesus and the individual christian. For the sake of time, I am not going to go into fully explaining this as I think the average christian already knows and understand this. But if you would like me to explain further, please let me know and I will help out. Now, you know that in such a union, the man is the figure of God while the woman is the figure of the church or the individual christian. Every single time the bible says this, this is always the case! If you can find another instance where the woman is the figure of God, and the man the figure of the church, please let me know. And if anyone knows very well christianity, he would see the insinuation that the woman is the figure of God and the man the figure of the individual christian as a blasphemy! So, just as Jesus is your 'husband' and you, a jokerman, and he is simultaneously, the husdand of Adeboye, Oyedepo, et al because the relationship is a one on one basis, so too can a man have more than one wife and the idea of two became one is still upheld. Remember that this is the workings of a christian marriage. I did not make it, neither can you undo it. To show to you that each christian is the bride if christ, lets turn to 1 Corinthians: ''15 You know that your bodies are parts of the body of Christ. Shall I take a part of Christ's body and make it part of the body of a prostitute? Impossible! 16 Or perhaps you don't know that the man who joins his body to a prostitute becomes physically one with her? The scripture says quite plainly, “The two will become one body.” 17 But he who joins himself to the Lord becomes spiritually one with him.'' the bolded part points out what I am trying to say, very beautifully! It says: ''HE WHO JOINS HIMSELF TO THE LORD...'' So, the question is: do you did you join yourself, Jokerman, to the lord? Did the Pope, or any other christian who have accepted jesus as his lord and saviour join themselves to the lord? If yes, then he said you ''...have spiritually become one with him''! I did not say this, you bible did! And to be more precise about what he is refering to, Paul still referenced the sane Genesis Jesus quoted in matt 19:4. the same passage you brought up here. Jesus said when two people become married, then ''the two of them have become one!''. So, if you became one with christ at your initiation into his brotherhood, it is because you became married to him, so to speak! The concluding part of that chapter 6 says, he paid your bride price! So, with this little thing here, I hope you are clear that your understanding of matt 19vs 4 that it prohibits polygamy is completely out of place! If you have any comment or question, please ask. I am going to tag the usual people with whom I have had this discussion before to come in and look again at the facts and strength of the arguement I have put forward here. Perhaps this time, they can overcome their Dunning-Kruger effect and drop their antagonism to polygamy as being of God, or if they still insist on their original stance, they will be able to come up with a better arguement than they currently put forward. @Righteousness2 @StillDTruth @SIRTee15 @MaxInDHouse @DTruthSpeaker. I will also add @Image123 here too. I will be adding others who I think need to read this. @Femi4 since you also believe in the falsehood of God's ''original plan'' you mau find this very post interesting. @almarthins here is it where I explained why wife suffices for wives: that the relationship between the man and his wives is one-on-one basis. |

AntiChristian:He said something about God's original plan. How did you miss that. How can talking about divorce does not involve marriage? Even his disciples mentioned "not to marry' in verse10 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” 8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” 10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.” Did Jesus mention wives in his submission? |

Righteousness2:Fanatism of the highest order! Tell me where it is in Bible that stated it is sinful for any Christian to marry more than one wife. Some people just lack even common knowledge. The father of faith himself married more than one wife even at a time when God was so close to mankind to the extent of speaking to them directly. Mind you, only the words of God Himself are sacred and not the words emanating from the views, perspectives, feelings and thoughts of one prophet or the other. Prophets are human beings like us. Get wisdom and in wisdom, get knowledge!!! |

| Re: Can A New Christian Convert Keep All His 4 Wives Or Send Three Away? by Image123(m): 12:07pm On Nov 03, 2024 |
Daejumong:From the beginning, it was not so. The Bible teaches that two become one, five don't become one. Nonetheless, you did yours in ignorance if it's a true story (which i doubt). If you separate from your wives, it's okay but you must take care of them and their children for life like you would your first wife and children. Hopefully, they can find a new life and family but they remain largely your responsibility. The pros is saving yourself from polygamy, having a good testimony, and ability to do some certain things in the body of Christ that polygamists are not allowed to. On the other hand, if you keep them, you have not sinned. You don't go to hell for polygamy. It's not advisable but it's not a sin found in the Bible. |

almarthins:Now my friend, here is the whole of chapter 7. Please point out to me, you can use capital letters and the ''bold'' feature, to highlight what part of Romans chapter 7 talks remotely about polygamy or how many wives a man.can or cannot have. Please do and show us HOW IT SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT HOW MANY WIVES A MAN CAN OR CANNOT HAVE. I AM WAITING! An Illustration from Marriage 7 Certainly you will understand what I am about to say, my friends, because all of you know about law. The law rules over people only as long as they live. 2 A married woman, for example, is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives; but if he dies, then she is free from the law that bound her to him. 3 So then, if she lives with another man while her husband is alive, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is legally a free woman and does not commit adultery if she marries another man. 4 That is how it is with you, my friends. As far as the Law is concerned, you also have died because you are part of the body of Christ; and now you belong to him who was raised from death in order that we might be useful in the service of God. 5 For when we lived according to our human nature, the sinful desires stirred up by the Law were at work in our bodies, and all we did ended in death. 6 Now, however, we are free from the Law, because we died to that which once held us prisoners. No longer do we serve in the old way of a written law, but in the new way of the Spirit. Law and Sin 7 Shall we say, then, that the Law itself is sinful? Of course not! But it was the Law that made me know what sin is. If the Law had not said, “Do not desire what belongs to someone else,” I would not have known such a desire. 8 But by means of that commandment sin found its chance to stir up all kinds of selfish desires in me. Apart from law, sin is a dead thing. 9 I myself was once alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life, 10 and I died. And the commandment which was meant to bring life, in my case brought death. 11 Sin found its chance, and by means of the commandment it deceived me and killed me. 12 So then, the Law itself is holy, and the commandment is holy, right, and good. 13 But does this mean that what is good caused my death? By no means! It was sin that did it; by using what is good, sin brought death to me, in order that its true nature as sin might be revealed. And so, by means of the commandment sin is shown to be even more terribly sinful. The Conflict in Us 14 We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am a mortal, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do; for I don't do what I would like to do, but instead I do what I hate. 16 Since what I do is what I don't want to do, this shows that I agree that the Law is right. 17 So I am not really the one who does this thing; rather it is the sin that lives in me. 18 I know that good does not live in me—that is, in my human nature. For even though the desire to do good is in me, I am not able to do it. 19 I don't do the good I want to do; instead, I do the evil that I do not want to do. 20 If I do what I don't want to do, this means that I am no longer the one who does it; instead, it is the sin that lives in me. 21 So I find that this law is at work: when I want to do what is good, what is evil is the only choice I have. 22 My inner being delights in the law of God. 23 But I see a different law at work in my body—a law that fights against the law which my mind approves of. It makes me a prisoner to the law of sin which is at work in my body. 24 What an unhappy man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is taking me to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who does this through our Lord Jesus Christ! This, then, is my condition: on my own I can serve God's law only with my mind, while my human nature serves the law of sin. Also, @Righteousness2, since you consider yourself as assistant chineke, you may want to come in here and help out your comerade. Also, @DTruthSpeaker @StillDTruth @SIRTee15 and @MaxInDHouse. You are tge team of advocates here Show yourselfs and rise up to the occasion. Let the truth be laid bare, and let falsehood he disgraced! |

Daejumong:Christians are religiously binding to marry more than one wife. There is no place in Bible where marrying more than one wife is tagged a sin against God. There is only an instruction for church leaders and elders to stick to one man one wife for concentration on the works of God. Apostle Paul even advised not to marry at all for proper concentration on God's work. There are so many people in the Bible who are called "people after God's heart" that married more than one wife which God never complained about. Stop misleading people! Meanwhile, let everyone called Christians read their Bibles themselves and stop listening to false teachings and preachings. |

When these souls were breathed into human bodies during pregnancy and then born into the world, the spirits or souls transformed into human beings. You are married to them already aso you can't send them away. Take care of them and love them as best as you can. According to the Bible, the only person not allowed to marry more than one wife is a minister. So, you can't be a pastor but be active in God's ministry. |
