Your car should be able to do 10-13 km per litre of fuel in normal use.

Possible Problems:
1. Your Fuel Tank or pipe may be leaking
2. Check your fuel nozzle and fuel pump

They don carry your catalyst may be. Any car that does not have weight should not consume fuel. This is the law of thermodynamics and nothing can change that

Is the bold applicable to only this model of corolla? When I was using 06 corolla, I ran my fan direct & there was no difference in fuel consumption.

You need to make sure the fuel system is tuned to operate optimally a good electrician with scanner can detect the fuel consumption using fuel trim. Search YouTube for fuel trim

Somebody have mentioned if you removed the thermostat in the car, restore it and make sure the fan is not running Direct

First get a car electrician with a scanner to scan for sensor errors.

Check for leakage of fuel from the tank to the pipe carrying the fuel to the engine.

Change your fuel pump if possible.

These usually are the culprit to fuel consumption problems.

You damn know about cars. Yes, he should check the engine air filter and while at it check the catalyst if still intact. If not he should buy a good toks or those new china made catalyst . Will serve but wouldn't last, maybe after a year warranty......

Open your bonnet and check if your air filter is dirty. If it filled with dust your car will consume excessive fuel. Change the air filter or just dust it out and return back

Before concluding wether d car is bad or not try to run a scan and confirm the fuel trim result. You might be having issues with the fuel economy sensors on d engine.
Incase u need to run the fuel trim test call autofix garage now... Zero eight one six zero four one zero zero eight five

They have scanned it, there was error code on the oxygen sensors (the upper and lower) and two other sensors (which they claim doesn't have effect on fuel consumption).
We have changed the oxygen sensors.
Although like it was noted earlier in one of the posts above, the thermostat has been removed, I don't know if this can be the cause.
I plan to also personally check the air filter in the Mass Airflow box, perhaps it's dirty and need to be changed.

The thermostat shouldn't affect fuel consumption at all.

However, you have rightly noted the air filter and mass flow sensor.

Don't be tempted to sell the car o! It's should be a minor problem, only that it's not yet determined
