Without Borrowing I’ve Paid ₦‎90bn Of Checking names 191bn Debt Inherited – Otti by Bobloco(op): 2:58am On Nov 09, 2024
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State said his administration had, in 15 months, paid N90 billion out of the N191.2 billion debt inherited from the previous administrations.

Also, he disclosed that Abia had recorded $159 million foreign direct investment between June 2023 and June 2024 under his watch.

Governor Otti said these during a media parley Thursday night in Umuahia.

He also declared that his administration had not borrowed money from any institution so far.

Otti explained that he had been judiciously deploying the resources of the state for infrastructural development, payment of salaries and pensions as well as other financial obligations of Government.

‘I inherited N191bn debt’

Otti said: “I inherited N191.3 billion from my predecessor in May 2023. My predecessor inherited about N35 billion from his predecessor in 2015.

“But today, my administration has paid over N90 billion of the debt we inherited.

“We still pay salaries and pensions every month. And I have not borrowed a Kobo from anybody.

“The achievements you see today are a product of prudent management of scare resources.”

On the foreign direct investment, Governor Otti said that Abia had moved from the 27th position to the 3rd position in the states with highest foreign direct investment.

He explained that the efforts of his administration to put in place the necessary infrastructure and other investment-friendly factors, had made Abia a destination for investors.

According to Otti, “We saw the need to lay the foundations upon which investment drives would stand. And that is why a lot of investors are now coming into the state.”

The governor argued that it does not make sense chasing investors around, submitting that they would naturally come when the needed environment is provided.

“Investors don’t listen to platitudes, they look at actions. Without any campaign, we have had investors coming to set up their investments in Abia.

“Apostle Chibuzor of OPM, the other day, brought a team of investors – one from Italy, another from Turkey and one from the US.

“That’s why we are making sure we make Abia investor-friendly.

“Akaikenga Think Tank also came, and we are discussing on how they would set tech hub in Abia. We want our people to come back and invest at home,”
Otti noted.

Agric investments, road construction
Governor Otti also said his administration was making spirited efforts towards achieving food security. He equally disclosed that he had approved funds to 300 Abians who were recently sponsored by the state government to under-study modern farming in Nasarawa State.

He further explained that the intention of his administration to establish Greater Ohafia Development Commission, GADO, was to ensure no senatorial district was sidelined in the development agenda of government.

“Since we already have Greater Aba Development Authority, GADA; and Umuahia Capital Development Agency, UCDA, we need to complete the tripod and that’s what we have done to ensure even development in the state,” he added.

On road infrastructure, the governor said his administration had awarded projects for the rehabilitation of more new roads to make all parts of the state easily accessible.

He said the expansion of 5-kilometer Onuimo Bridge-Abia Tower Umuahia road had commenced. He added that contract has equally been awarded for 11.5 Ntigha Road, 11.27 Mbala -Ngodo Isuochi Road, 11.5 kilometer Obehie -Owaza Road in Ukwa, among others.

Otti said he had secured the assurances of Julius Berger handling the reconstruction of the strategic Port Harcourt Road Aba that the project would be delivered on or before February 2025.

He also said that work was progressing on so many other road projects as scheduled, including Umuahia -Uzuakoli -Ohafia Road, Ohafia-Atochukwu road, Ndiokorie Abam -Atochukwu road, and several others.

The governor added that the zero-pothole policy of his administration was ongoing.

Accountability is “I have paid” and not “Abia state has paid”

I am a Nigerian and know where he is driving at. Don’t try to fool me in a system I know far too well.

And if it’s about accountability, shouldn’t the state revenue and expenditure be shared in same communication. Why did he emphasize only the debt and even claimed it as personal achievement instead if of state.

I hope that Gov. Fubara could read this. That the OPM pastor that he donated the hard earned #200m of Rivers State money took foreign investors to his state Abia State instead of Rivers State where his church is.

Alex Otti is courageous. You can imagine what he would have achieved if the criminal past administration didn't borrow funds they never utilised, but looted. He is now paying it, and doing wonders.
He is a good student of Peter Obi's politics

If you see them attack Otti, check well and you will find out it the same group Tribalist people that voted Buhar and Tinubu.

This is why i said that those who wanted to use the minimum wage chants to blackmail this man into misusing Abia states finances, should back off. He obviously is using his states resources intelligently and should be allowed to do so. States funds are not to meant to be shared through all sorts of corrupt channels, including inflated civil service roster. States funds should be primarily used to improve the states well being .

Wow Alex Otti this is very impressive. Please keep up the good works in Abia state. While others are looking for more loans to throw their states into, you are paying up loans accumulated by other governors.
You have proven to be a good student of Peter Obi politics please keep it up.
For those APC rats that will come here and rant, show us how much debts that you state government have repaid.

Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, see your mates.

You can go to either czechoslovakia or Yugoslavia to bring your own foreign investors for Rivers state naa.
Abi them break your hand? Stop telling others where to direct their investments. Bring your own. There are more Abia peoples investments in Rivers than you can find Rivers peoples investments in Abia. Do something about that instead of murmuring and grumbling like a spooked cat.

Government of propaganda.
Otti Government has been challenged by PDP state chairman to show proof of such a debt claimed to have been owed by the previous administration, yet he has not.
I don't understand what Otti intends to achieve by ALWAYS trying to VILIFY the immediate past administration.
Is it for people to rise and stone Okezie Ikpeazu?
I keep saying it here as an Aba redident back then, Okezie wasn't a saint, he owed backlog of salaries, but infrastructure wise, he laid a good foundation for Aba. He gave Aba the modern day look. He constructed and renovated the major roads in Aba.
Otti should let this man be and focus on governance. It's called maturity

A CANDID ADVISE TO MR. GOVERNOR

Mr. Governor sir, it is very disheartening that your government is very quick in seeing any opposition person as an enemy to the government.

There are just 2 categories of people in your government that would fast track your movement to prison.

The first set are those your aides that will always tell you that you are doing very very well.

Mr. governor, listen more to the opposition voices or your critics more than your loyalist or aides. Just deny your aides 3 months salaries and you will understand that they are not your friends.

Your loyalist are all around you hailing and praise singing you to Kuje prison.

You are the worst governor in both south east and south south. But they will not tell you.

You can still make amends.

Don't bother explaining to them.
Normally, the man dey whine.

The previous administration said they never left such debt and challenged him to publish names of the beneficiaries of this 90B and how much they got in the spirit of accountability so that they can point to Abians what they did that earned them such amounts.
