Russia wanted to join NATO but members said no. The same NATO was trying to make Ukraine a member and then subsequently begins to house NATO weapons! It is about logic.
Russia said Ukraine would never be allowed to do that, and here they are today.

Oga, Ukraine is not even an EU member state not to talk of belonging to NATO, like any country would want to join Nato, Ukraine wanted to join but Natio refused. Ukraine made reference to it's nuclear weapons it give out to Russia in 1992, for the sake of peace and the guaranteed security from USA and Russia, which was not kept by either. You think NATO is any organization that everybody can join when they pleased.
Lastly, the cause of the war in Ukraine is the defeat of victor Yanukovic, who was from the so called Donbass region , which angered Russia, because it has lost its grip on Ukraine in 2014, which led to the first invasion and declared the Donbass and Crimea region independent from Ukraine
