Heavensake1:importation of fuel should continue until this greedy business men take it down notch. Price of rice scar rocketed immediately Nigeria decided to stop the importation of rice and encourage local producers of it. You go to market now to buy rice, you first of all need to beg the seller to give you good quality rice because of so many bad rice in the market nowadays. |

LandMann:I find it laughable to find people like you supporting IPMAN after it has robbed you for decades, by stealing and selling PMS that was paid dearly for using scarce forex from our coffers. They worked hard and successfully to kill Nigerian refineries all so they can keep importing. This request of theirs for license is an attempt to frustrate Dangote refinery and kill it to so they can continue jerking up the price of imported products at will. Those refineries that are good at selling petrol cheap should come here and build refineries, enough of the insult! |

LandMann:You understand the game. It beats my imagination why some folks do not understand the game that Dangote is playing. For me, Dangote's antecedents in other industries are the very reasons that Nigerians should ever allow him to monopolize an industry or enjoy any unfair trade practices. |

teepain:. You can not develop an economy by importation of a product that the raw material is abundant in Nigeria and expect it to grow. Let me use cement as a circa. Before Obasanjo came to power in 1999, Nigeria had over 10 cement companies that was at the verge of collapsing due to cheap cement imports from Brazil,India and china. The only ones functioning minimal was sokoto, ewekoro, shagamu and ashaka this companies employed thousands of Nigeria. Guess what the major importer of cement that era was dangote, ibeto and 11 other importers. How many jobs did the importation create then just few hundreds jobs mainly loaders and forklift operators. So Obasanjo came on board and was annoyed with the situation. First he said how can the country with the highest limestone deposit in Africa be the highest importer of cement in Africa which is like the current situation we have now. Then he brought the backward integration program. Then he told all the importers that he will grant them tax waivers on two condition. One is that they must show a business plan of building a cement plant in the next 5 years or acquire a moribund plant. Guess what some importers like ibeto, Reagan and madwell, dabull, eagle cement started playing tricks so that their import allocation will increase yet with no plans of building one or acquiring. Only dangote keyed into the policy by acquiring one benue cement and going ahead to build One. The rest started shouting monopoly up till this moment. Now a sensible president will prefer the price of a commodity to expense knowing that thousands of job will be created meaningful ones like engineers, PAYE for the state, mineral loyalties, community funds,CIT, mining license lease over importation that do not create tangible meaningful job and only custom duties with PAYE not possible. |

Whitelion07:I understand your point but We don't have to import what we can produce. By doing that we keep hurting ourselves. Though local producers maybe greedy, govt too is not helping matter as they couldn't create enabling environment for local producers to thrive easily. E.g lack of power makes them spend heavily on diesel to keep their business running. |

LandMann:. 🤣🤣🤣 Do you know la farge was existing before dangote started cement. So how do you claim monopoly when a player was already there. Well the entry into a cement business has a high Moat. An average 3 million MTTPA cement plant cost 500 million dollar USD. So the question now is how many Nigeria can cough out that amount. Knowing fully well that Nigeria with 500 million usd and above on Nigeria are not up to 20 according to Forbes. For your information 2 cement companies are on the verge of starting theirs next year. Resident cement company by Junaid Abbas and MSM cement company by a cousin of dangote. Do you know if you don't have ur pit chemistry okay your investment in cement plant can go down the drain. That why dangote and Bua are fighting over some mining zone in okpella because of pit chemistry. If government wants the price of cement to be 2000 naira per bag it can by entering the sector through an SPV model after the NLNG . The money can be gotten from NSIA and a consortium of PFAs utilizing pension fund. 14 states has limestone deposit that can service up to 20 cement companies. Imagine if we have 25 cement companies what will the price be like. |

LandMann:Why do i feel i am talking to dead brain, for the 1st time ever subsidy was completely removed and naira floated no govt as tried that before ... does that answer your stupid question. Why are you fools justifying nonsense, if dangote will be a monopoly what is stopping the govt/Nnpc from making moves like let our national refineries .... why are you people making it look like fixing a refinery is a rocket science or something very impossible. There is regulation act that backs Local refinery in Nig., as long as it can meet local demand it most be prioritize as major supply. Dangote capacity can meet our local demand and he will still have excess therefore its preporious to opine dangote should not export if he wants, no law in the regulatory act forbids export that plainly foolish idea that can come from a Big Fool. Export is favourable to any economy How exactly dangote a fvcking monopolist did your father buy land and dangote refuse him to build a cement plant or a refinery. Is Dangote the one blocking or stopping Govt/Nnpc from fixing local refinery ... the way some of reason shallow is an understatement Nigeria are buying pms at int'l price cos your govt/Nnpc sold crude to dangote at int'l price... so much nonsense you are spewing is there even anything like int'l minimum wage .. ![]() i have seen so many idiot but yours is crossbreed .. too many nonsense talks bye bye |

rafindo:I completely agree with the assertion that local manufacturers should be supported. However, they in turn must learn not to take their primary (domestic) market for granted. Dangote has enjoyed a lot of government support, especially under Buhari, more than any other business. Subsidized dollar, government's capital investment, import duty waivers and a host of others. With our experience in the cement, sugar, salt markets, I am not convinced that Dangote's near monopolization of the petrol supply market will be good for the country. |

Why should the FG issue importation licence to bring in petrol? An oil rich country with only one refinery .... just getting on its feet ... and licences would be granted to import petrol? ...and people are agreeing with this? What country does that? The US that has so many industries well established allow similar products to be imported in most cases .... but the tax imposed is heavy ... a means to protect the local industry. But here we are .... with our import mentality and wondering why we are not making progress. |

iLoveYouToo:If this is your thinking, so why should anybody invest in manufacturing in Nigeria? Everything should be imported because you can always get them cheap products somewhere as many country are looking for dum.b places to dump their excess capacity. Jobless and unemployment will just quadruple and poverty will be your future. No country can develop or even be sustainable by just consuming. You need to create a manufacturing base in Nigeria by protecting it and able to convince investors that they will be able to recoup their investment if the invest here. Africans don’t think far, just want to eat everything now and party. |

rafindo:u missed the point. How will Dangote use the name refiners association to fight pms import where the other people do not have business with pms. Fishy. He claims imported products are substandard, we have been importing for years and we are okay with the products he is demonizing. Let him allow competion for prize in the sector. |

| Re: Refiners Oppose Petrol Import Licences To IPMAN, PETROAN by asala1: 11:10am On Nov 10, 2024 |
skywalker240:FG gave out licenses to many companies to build refineries. Only Dangote built one. Countries babysits individual that build industries in the country and that’s what they should do. Giving favorable forex to companies that are building manufacturing capacity is what Nigeria should do and that’s not even enough. Tax breaks and more incentives needs to come into play. For example, Canada is giving upto $13 billion to Volkswagen to build a plant in the country. This is how you create good jobs, not importing what you can produce. |

LandMann:i dont see any Move from Dangote that sabotages other local refineries from coming up, i refuse to see Dangote as a monopoly until you tell me; Your dad bought a land to build cement factory/refinery .. dangote blocked it or Did you decide to be a distributor of elephant or larfarge cement and dangote arrested you You cant talk of Monopoly without proven sabotage moves. Monopoly in real sense is when you dont allow anyone step into your line, how is dangote stopping your dad from building a refinery cos i know you cant afford it Until Nnpc come out nd accuse Dangote he is the one stopping our national refineries from working .. Monopoly talk here is trash. |
