The proper way this embassy people are supposed to be operating is this; there should have been visa fee, and visa application processing fee.

Visa fee should be refundable if application is denied, while processing fee should be non refundable.

Visa fee and visa processing fee; please what is the difference?

Not really. If your documents didn't meet their requirements after submission,they'd refund your money. Hungary does this too. They don't collect visa fees in advance. Hungary won't give you a teller to go to the bank for visa fee payment if they see anything that will disqualify you from getting their visa in your documents.Once they're satisfied with your responses during visa interview, they'd now give you a teller to go to zenith bank for your visa fee payment.

They won't try that cos doing that creates more incentives for people to apply. They are already overwhelmed with applications even when people know they will lose their money if rejected. Imagine what it will look like when people will have nothing to lose when rejected, applications will quadruple.

They should refund oo. Most people don't know that USA 🇺🇸 visa fee is now 305,000.Thats too much. And some applicants still have to pay SEVIS fee too

If you are refused, they will tell you not to pay

You're right.

I think it can work even better, by requiring payment of visa processing fee before the interview, while visa fee will be paid when the visa is granted. That eliminates the need for a refund.

But the question is, does Nigeria do the same to nationals of other countries?

This is a very reasonable suggestion.

But I trust them to just convert their current visa fees to the visa fee and then add additional money for the visa processing fee.
