Benue Government Approves N30.2bn For Rural Roads by God1000(op): 8:06am On Nov 13, 2024
The Benue State Executive Council (SEC) has approved the sum of N30.2 billion for the construction of five rural roads in the state.

Chief press secretary to the governor, Tersoo Kula, who disclosed this at a briefing after the SEC meeting held Tuesday at the Government House, Makurdi, said the amount represents 60 percent counterpart fund for the rural roads across the three senatorial zones while the local governments in the designated project areas will provide the remaining 40 percent.

The projects approved for construction are the Awajir-Oju; Adikpo-Kotiyo-Vandeikya, Ushongo-Har; Igwumale-Agila; and Obagaji-Okokolo-Agagbe roads.

Mr Kula also disclosed that the SEC resolved to domesticate the Disability Act in the state for persons with disability as well as approve a donation of N10 million to the Nigerian Legion for this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

He said the move by the state government was to ensure that the rights of those with disability are protected and the challenges faced in their day to day life reduced.

Similarly, the sum of N567 million was approved as compensation for members of Mbagwa and Mbawa communities of Makurdi local government for their lands earmarked for the federal housing estate project.

Besides, the SEC approved the establishment of Benue State Signage and Advertisement Agency to regulate signposts, billboards and other advertisement activities.

Kula disclosed lifting of suspension placed on the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Barr Fidelis Mnyim who was sanctioned by Governor Hyacinth Alia for including Benue state as party in the suit challenging the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Kula said Barr Mnyim was recalled from suspension after he withdrew the state from the list of those challenging the constitutionality of the laws establishing the two anti-graft agencies

It is alleged that politicians use the majority of road construction projects as a means of enriching themselves financially. It is to be hoped that this is not the case.

Sad but those roads wouldn't be fixed.

No be Benue state ? Too many hopeless and visionless leaders from there.

So sad that the men want to drink and laze about instead of fighting back against herdsmen.

A state that's continuously supported people like David Mark... I'm pessimistic.

The most backward state in Nigeria. I heard that there are only two major tribes in the state; tiv & Idoma but the idoma part is seldom developed. The tiv politicians hate idoma because of that evil genius David Mark. My friend laments a lot until I yelled at him that your tribe (idoma) is weak. I was in that state late last year, damn, nothing to point at. Very backward

It's a good development. But the negligence of Civil Servants and pensioners in the state is so glaring. No N30k minimum wage implementation, no form of palliative to Civil Servants after subsidy removal, no implementation of the N70k minimum wage(infact, they don't even talk about it anymore). Now that's sad, really sad.

Don't be too hopeful, they always talk and seldomly do. If Otukpo to Utonkon road is bad it then simply means that your dream will not still come true should the Igumale-Agila road is fixed; your tyre and shocks go still hear am on transit.

I can swear with my left blòkòs that only quarter of that money would be used.

Most roads in Nigeria don't last up to two years before you start seeing potholes.

Not that the Idomas are weak.

I put the blame on David Mark, who has been part of all the government, (both military and civilian) for decades but has refused to help his Idoma people.

Instead, he prefers carrying Nollywood Oloshos up and down.

I no blame you bros, you no know the full gist, anybody that tells you that is because of David Mark that person is lying
By the way what do you mean by idoma people are weak?
The Tiv's have 14 lga and 2 senatorial zones
Idoma have 7 LGA and share one senatorial zone with igede people,
So where will they get the numbers to muscle out power from the tiv's,
Unless if the case of yahaya bello of kogi state happens, and mind you if the igalas have i4 LGA and 2 senatorial zone, leaving ebira and okun with 9 LGA and 1 senatorial zone to share there is no way bello could have rigged ododo in, in the last election, because they (ebira) wouldn't have the number spread,
Just like governor uduaghan couldn't win senatorial seat because ijaw outnumber itshekiri,

Three major tribes, not two...Tiv, Idoma and Igede.
You ain't far from the truth about the level of underdevelopment in Benue state. We can only pray that Governor Alia be able to fulfill his campaign promises which he is already doing gradually.
We want to see more projects in zone C too (Idoma and Igede axis).
Approving funds for construction of Oju -Awajir road is a welcome development. It's also important the Governor summon courage and address the land dispute between Bonta and Ukpute communities to make the project more meaningful. As we speak, Oju-Awajir road is being blocked by Bonta militia and inaccessible. Igede people have to travel through Otukpo road to Makurdi (7 hours journey) instead of normal 2 hours journey through Oju-Awajir road... people are being killed daily in that axis.
