I will follow elder KOG on this one. Boniface never play kobo for us.. Him still dey play.
Imagine Boniface never score a goal for us but he don sealed second striker position... Dessers is not good enough cuz he is playing in Scottish league? but Leverkussen wonder is always getting the immunity and fans are waiting for his goals, even Osimhen is not enjoying such immunity.

My cross with Boniface is that he does not see it as a big deal

Alex Iwobi is surely a mainstay in the Super Eagles midfield but today saw him drop probably one of his worse GWG performances. Iwobi struggled to be incisive and looked leggy in his distribution at times.

He completed 30 passes out of 39 attempted in 72mins of play.

Raphael Onyedika came in at half time and completed the same number of passes (30) out of 36 in lesser time than it took Iwobi. And his passes were mostly purposeful recycles, top distributive and switch plays-effective.

What am I saying? Not that Iwobi needs be replaced by Onyedika. Absolutely not.

But that a metronomic middle game figure like Onyedika should not be left on the bloody bench when he holds the key to how our middle game operates and how our transitions and switchplays happen.

Onyedika should be playing alongside Iwobi and one more midfielder for proper middle game balance that perfectly places our fingers on the trigger of our attacking weapons.

Iwobi, our creative outlet was underpar but thank God for the Metronomic outlet in Onyedika who came in and got our midfield wheels working effectively again.
Onyedika need to replace Iwobi.... AE should give us Onyeka-Onyedika-Bashiru

Afcon 2023 say hi.Pls lets stop this comparison.... Osimhen is our goal getter anytime anyday.... but fact Lookman has been the best since Afcon. Oh! Just cuz of Benin match you suddenly forgot Lookman who was denied two goals against Rwanda and Libya.

This Iwobi I saw today is shocking to know that he has 84 caps already

How can Nigeria be relying on this guy for creativity in 2024
Iwobi 84 caps showed that Nigeria lacks natural midfieders... ex players like Obiorah,Oruma and Duke Udi find it so difficult with presence of Okocha

You must be crazy so you want me to be excited that the Giant of Africa were held to a stalemate by one the Historically Giant of African football, Benin? We have to be truthful devoid of any emotions when analyzing Games. Todays performance by the super eagles was an eyesore and everyone except Onyeamachi were Average or Below average including my fave Ademola lookman. I’m sorry but I can’t celebrate today’s performance lai lai
Current World Champion just lost few hours ago. Who is Nigeria that Benin Republic can't draw then?

Exactly
You play Iwobi deep and you're wondering why he's dropping stinkers
Iwobi that's an assist merchant..
Na wa

I just wonder why our coaches don't pay attention to simple details sometimes

Spot on!
Our midfield in the first half was terribly unbalanced..
Something closer to a proper midfield balance gave us an edge in the second half..

I just wonder why our coaches keep sacrificing our midfield
Its truly shocking!
If not for their woeful finishing, Benin would have been 3 goals up by the time we corrected the mistakes ..

I never realized how really important Simon Moses was to the Super Eagles until recently...the man gives his all in national colors in the most diligent way, and true workhorse and asset for the team. I know we will truly miss how truly important a player Simon is when he finally retires.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by lbrichman2: 7:13am On Nov 15, 2024
That you started Iheanacho at all is a howler, then playing him on the wings is the most ridiculous decision made by AE
I wonder how that was a tactical decision
Dude is not fast, does not mark and completely killed the ring wing

Like I said, the whole team was off yesterday
We drew the match simply because we came with a strong momentum

These are the kind of things that make us clamour for other coaches sometimes

AE dropped a tactical disaster class yesterday
E fall not only hand but leg too

I watched the entire 90 mins of this game and that easily qualifies for a top 2 worst Super Eagles performance in living memory. Please don't let the fact it ended in a draw deceive you. Benin really were the better side and should have won convincingly. It was so glaringly obvious who the better managed team was.

Who to blame?

Eguavoen has had several auditions and has serially proven not to be cut out for it at this level. Iwobi and Ndidi in a 2 man midfield? Starting with 3 centre backs but with no idea how to progress the ball through the lines? Not a single attempt at creating overloads on the Beninoise full backs, they did that to ours several times? Really really poor.

Iheanacho is finished at the top level. After he inevitably gets offloaded by Sevilla he will disappear into the ether. I don't see how he gets interest from a top flight team in any big league.

Bassey cannot be a guaranteed starter. He's all brawn no brains, very aggressive but no real physical qualities to talk about, not fast can jump ...simply not good enough to be starting every game. He's still young so might improve with time.

Iwobi also cannot be a guaranteed starter. We've seen his performance ceiling, it isn't very high and he hardly ever brings it to the party anyway.

Gabriel Osho was very very poor. I think it was a good idea to see him in this sort of game and the nerves of making his debut might have got to him. Maybe he gets one more chance. We need to try out a few more players here so his invitation was welcome.

Osimhen needs 5/6 clear cut chances to convert 1. His finishing for club and country are not worth the hype he gets. The best part of his game is his hard work, physicality and athleticism but against strong, athletic African strikers they don't leave him with any change. Remove the 7 goals he scored against Sao Tome and penalties against the likes of Sierra Leone and you'll see where his real stats should be. We still need him for his hard work but we need to remeasure our expectations. His goal today was his first for Nigeria since the AFCON opener against Equatorial Guinea in January.

Tired of writing....

NB: I missed the goal he scored Vs Benin in Uyo but still my point stands. His goal return rate is not good enough.
Then we should also remove Yekini penalty goals and all the goals he scored against minnows and see what remains of his 37 goals.

I d rather take a player from Latvia league who can get the job done than a player from the big 3 who doesn't deliver. Boniface has not shown any working in SE colours. Period. We just cannot rely on him if we are chasing a game. NT and club games no be the same.

Our midfield trio should be Onyedika, Onyeka and Dele-Bashiru...play Iwobi from the wing if he has to start or bench him. Eguavoen gaffed big time by starting Iheanacho and even more baffling that he played him from the wing! like what kind of self-sabotage is that? Ndidi offers us nothing, just another pedestrian player living off on "experienced player" tax.

I'm sorry but players like Ndidi, Iheanacho, and Sadiq have absolutely no business in the NT! Ojediran of Lens is looking like a exciting prospect, why not just give players like that a chance? Vince Osuji is balling in Sweden top flight football, why not give the kid a chance? I'll even take Ariehi over Iheanacho right now at this point- at least he's one for the future.

Aina sef dey Bleep up these days, he needs serious competition in that position and Osayi doesn't inspire much confidence. So why can't NFF try players like Kingsley Ehibizue, Felix Agu and Kayode from Fiorentina? Osimhen and Moses Simon keep carrying this team but for how long can we keep depending on their individual brilliance to bail us out... Nwabali sef needs to stop letting media hype get into his head and calm down. Lookman is really trying but he was so isolated and crowded out with no options available for those lay-offs.

The only positives today were Bruno Onyemaechi (solid baller), Simon Moses and Onyedika to some extent. The rest were absolutely gash. Lots of work and revamping needs to be done going forward and NFF have to come out clear and decide who our coach is after the Rwandan game, if it's Eguavoen then announce him as the substantive coach and find tactically sound assistants to support him (if possible bring back Siasia into the coaching fold).

i so love the way our games progression against Benin is panning out..thank God we've tasted defeat, drawn and also won them…it was never going to be a 100% record against them…their game was poor bla bla bla we were never gonna take 12points in all 4matches against them na..they outplayed us but came to uyo to collect 3-0…our last game with them is the final match day 10 of WCQ October in uyo..atleast we no what to expect…even Rwanda..we just need to record 3straight wins against them starting from Monday…infact Rwanda own dey fear me…can we do the double against them? Beating them here in Uyo and also going to kigali in March 2025 to still beat them?..these guys find extra energy when they play super eagles…i hope we can also beat them in kigali the way libya did…even if its just by 1-0
These guys are ahead of us in the WCQ
