Good job. Tell them. Dont be surprised if they attack you because many people dont like to hear the truth.

The only reason 90% of ladies want to marry is to wear the wedding gown and take pictures, they see the wedding day as the marriage and not life after the wedding they.

They get many gullible men into poverty and problems. FYI the picture you just showed may not convey the whole story, perhaps 10-15 years ago that family may have had a better standard of living.

You could employ the wife / woman as nanny, at least you would have helped thier situation or employ the man as your gateman.

Life is seriously hard in this country for anyone who genuinely trying to make ends meet... Who won't because of this economy commit evil.

Marriage is a beautiful thing.... But getting to it prepared is my advice.

You must be financially okay if your partner has nothing and a type who can't endure.

You could cope with low financial status if your wife or partner has a work, business or rich.

Finally, since everyone and everything is all about money now

Men should also consider marrying a woman who is financially stable

Marrying unprepared is dangerous. But this poster is not enlightened. How did this poster verify that the family he saw is poor? The family may be rich or poor. The point is that the poster, who has not verified the financial status of the family, is judging a book by its cover.

Many garbage sellers are very rich.
Some of them own parcels of land and houses. The man walking barefooted might be due to the lifestyle he has developed for himself over the years in the business.
You and those who gave you over 100 likes are mumunis, walahi. Picking trash from morning till evening to sell as a job is a typical example of extreme poverty, not just ordinary poverty. Can you even stand next to a Nigerian trash collector or board the same taxi with him? You even mentioned them having land or houses grin grin

There is nothing investigative about your post. Marriage is not a way out of poverty and not a cause of poverty. There are many out of wedlock that are poor. Singles that are poor.

You can never be fully prepared for marriage but you can be committed to being Godly and to self development, selflessness, and diligence at what you do..

There will always be the abject poor, poor, average, rich and wealthy and all these has nothing to do with being married but the choices you make and the grace and mercy of God upon concerned individuals

Even if you're blind , can't you read? Even if you're Iliterate? Why are you not on a garbage site making 800k monthly if it's such a lucrative job.?You can see poverty etched out and you're whipping out an imaginary outlier story to defend your bias.
I don't mean to sound rude but you're unexposed. Chances are that you're probably amongst the millions of Nigerians who work 9-5 for some meagre 150k a month. Read between the lines. Garbage or scrap collection business is big business. You cannot afford to start it because you are too poor. Most of the people you find doing this business started as scavengers, and gradually, they have a place of their own where people bring in scrap metals for them to buy. They gather them until it weighs a couple of tons and take them to buyers who in pay millions of nairas for it. For example, a kg of copper costs about ₦13,000 or so. These scavengers would buy it off of you for half the price while you struggle with your meagre monthly salary. Normally, I don't even expect you to think of it like this because you are incapacitated. You are too broke to be able to afford to go into the business so I I'll excuse your ignorance. smiley

🥲 This has nothing to do with marring unprepared. Life can happen to anybody.
🥲 Moreover what they are doing is a very lucrative business. It seams dirty but there is a lot of money it. I belive the man knows that's why he involved his whole family (according to you).
It does actually! Being prepared means having in place a lot of what would keep you from hitting rock bottom no matter what happens to you. It also means choosing a partner wisely. Good planning would have you choosing an equally intelligent partner who would not end up a liability in case of no sickness.

2. It could be lucrative if done properly and planned right. What those people are doing there is guaranteeing they will end up sick and even more miserable before long. undecided

Let's stop reading between the lines and start telling ourselves the truth. The vast majority of those who started as scavengers remain scavengers. Only a handful of them rise beyond that for all of their lives. Many more of them end up sick from the toxins they are exposed to and may even die as a result. So, please don't put down people who go into 9-5s for these half-truths here. undecided

Yes, scavenging can be a good business for the person with the right know-how and attitude but like many other works of its kind there are many many risks to it and it is worth considering those risks before venturing into it as a way of living. Children, for one, should not be allowed to work these jobs. Matter of fact, anyone who does not have the right gear for the work should not embark on it at all. undecided

I see people playing devils advocate and providing extreme case scenarios. Child labour to handle such dangerous metals scrap is even wrong. They should be home doing house chores and not helping you make livelihood you failed to provide for them individually or as their parent.

There is dignity in labour, but not in child labour carrying sharp metal scrapnel. The parents should manage that part.

If you checked my initial post. You'll see I pointed "some", not "all" started as scavengers. You can decide to start the business today even with your capital and still be unsuccessful. In the same vain, you can decide to start with almost nothing and you'll grow gradually. It's just life. We are not all going to succeed. There's always going to be a balance.

Not with scavenging, particularly in a place like Nigeria where the greatest bulk of trash remains unrecyclable given that the recycling industry is largely underdeveloped. The balance you speak of has to be an intentionally created one otherwise the chances will remain high that those who engage will remain largely unsuccessful. undecided

I watched a video on YouTube not too long ago highlighting this very problem. Scavenging works as a source of income for some when industries are available to provide opportunities for scavengers to make a living from what they can obtain. Without that, it is only people moving the trash from one location to another in hopes that someday or somehow that trash turns to gold. undecided

The state of a poor man remains more easily managed if he is unmarried than if he isn't. This is the reality in every country where poverty is seen as the problem that it is in society. undecided
