Fun fact. We have only failed to qualify for the world cup twice since our debut in 1994.

We did not qualify in 2006 and in 2022. The Super Eagles manager both times was Austin Eguavoen.

Cc Otite Dafe

Will Eguavoen break the jinx this time?
Eguavoen is a good friend of history and i believe by now somebody might has pointed this to him.

intelligent interview. Seems he is fully aware of the squad and his insight on Kelechi Nwakali shows promise. I hope Kelechi Nwakali has done enough to let him give him a run of game. Although he assured he has game time for Kelechi Nwakali.

Also interesting to note that in the game against Cambridge that it was a tactical plan that got Kelechi Nwakali in.

Let us see how it goes. [/color]

Chelsea, Bologna, Lyon, Reims, Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Slavia Prague, PAOK, FC Dallas, and FC Cincinnati are interested in Vince Osuji. The 18-year-old is under contract with Kalmar FF until 2028.

Hanibal:
In my opinion we do already have a team that can score goals, even if we do not; I'm not sure that our coaches are adventurous enough to integrate anyone new into that midfield at this point... That said, realistically making use of our regular invitees is the way.

However, looking at the player profiles the setups have always been wrong.

The best system for our current group of players is a 4-2-3-1

A 4-3-3 will not work for the following reasons:
1. There's no natural number 6 to recycle the ball and glue the midfield together (Nwakali is about the only Nigerian player who can do a good job there, but of course we do not want to hear it)
2. We do not have pure wingers.. the only pure winger we have is Moses Simon, playing him on the right (hugging the lines which is his strength )and Ademola (inverted) on the left always causes a tactical imbalance when our full backs (who also enjoy hugging the lines) join the attack which a few days training (typical of National teams cannot fix).

A 3-4-3 will not work because we tend to have five men at the back without the ball instead of a four or five man mid-field without the ball as it should be, leaving us very thin in the midfield more like a 5-2-3 without the ball, the midfield is then overrun repeatedly
For instance Benin Away first half.. iheanacho was played on the right wing (which is scandalous by the way) without the ball I would have instructed him to tuck into mid-field and lead the press in that zone if I was the coach, instead he was just all over the place...

4-2-3-1 on the other hand will not need so many tactical instructions, the players will adapt easily and play at their best.

The back four basically picks itself:
Midfield pairing of Ndidi and Onyedika should start --- Ndidi the ball winner, Onyedika the distributor.

Chukwueze on the right (inverted) Aina next to him hugging the lines to deliver crosses.

Ademola on the left (inverted)
Onyemachi next to him hugging the lines to deliver crosses

Iwobi in the hole,
Osimhen up top.

This setup will deliver goals and can easily be implemented with little training, it is to be noted however that if Osimhen is not available in the system the second choice is not Boniface ( that guy is not a traditional number 9) this is why we need Taiwo Awóníyì to start playing regularly for his club

It's not rocket science really
Er I just have a question. hen Osimhen isnt available nko? who leads the line? Beautiful writeup by the way

For me, let us ditch this useless modern football and start with what really works for us and our Nation. Get proper dribblers not passers of ball. Players who will dribble u flat and clear in tight spaces and free up other players. All I see in the super Eagles is all pace and no brains. They also lack resilience and drive. Almost like losing isnt a big deal. I have said it before and I will say it again!!! This started when a certain bow legged white man came into the fray. Yall know who am talking about. Lets not forget that its still the same set of players from 2015 save a few names.

The team lacks hunger and passion as well as focus. Its time to bring stiff competition into the team as against guaranteeing starts for certain players. We need players who wwill do anything possible to get better than Osimhen in front. Better players than Iwobi. Better wingers than Moses Simon. Players that understand the place of teamwork rather than Self glory hunting.

EEGA:
Eguavoen shouldn't be combing the top 5 leagues for a creative Midfielder, but should scout for that CM or CAM who will average at least one goal in 2 matches.

Get us a scoring midfielder.Iwobi and Onyedika are already creative. All we need is a born scorer in midfield like Bellingham of Las season to complete the midfield set-up.

We can only qualify, if we start scoring midfielders and forwards and not creative r midfielders and forwards.

Onyedika and Iwobi is enough creativity in the middle.

Eguavoen should stop relying on Boniface as backup to Osimhen.

He should give Akpom, Arokodare and Maja in that other a chance.
Your comment is same issue I have with all the coaches asides late Kesh and Siasia. They are all lazy and don't want to take risk. Without taking risk, Keshi wouldn't have discovered Mba-Mikel-Onazi combo.

Who said a creative midfielder must be in the to 5 leagues?
The teams that have been giving us tough times where do their midfielders play?
Boniface that has been flopping in SE, is he not in the top 5 league?

There better teams queuing up for his siggy that were not listed here, but from this list, my boy should hurriedly join Bologna.

When I read some people write about Tosin Adarabioyo I laugh because I know we have a more superior talent in a young Vince and Vince is ours through and through.

Are you saying Vince Osuji is ready for eagles?....watching his highlights on FCcompTV showed a very rugged CB and @18 he plays above his age

He is more than ready. Remember my prediction the first day he was mentioned here, that boy is making his super eagles debut early 2025. Among all our current centre backs, no one is as good as him when it comes to passing the ball.

Once he comes in, I'm moving Bassey to LB

Oga Chris,Onyemachie Bruno is okay as LB....Bassey as LB exposes him more.I think Bassey only thrives in 3 man defence with wingbacks joining the attacks and withdrawing back to defend

I bet if Boniface is playing in moldova AE would have been accused of collecting bribe to field him. Taminu is on so many monikers lips not because he had a bad game, rather because of where he plays.
Nuff said.
