The issue of bride price is not even the problem but demands from her whole family and clan is outrageous. After the traditional wedding, the guy will still have to cough out huge sums of money for the court wedding for the marriage to be recognised by the state and church wedding for the marriage to be recognised by the church.

Not because I am looking down on anyone, nor am I insulting. There was a time that the poor could feed kids and buy pampers and baby food, but not anymore. I know how challenging it is for me to keep the lights on 247 for years now and provide for all those who depend on me, and I am saying that marriage is not for the poor anymore.

Things are tough globally, and except we go back to the days of growing our food and living the life that we were designed to live, it will be a difficult future because things do not get better; I have lived long enough in this country to know that things do not get better.

So the poor can not afford to get married now. It is better to just cope and manage until they become rich enough to get married. And I have stated in other threads that there is no need to get married because one is getting older. Get married when you can afford to.

I lost an 80 years old man who had just a son and the son is about 20 years and still in the Uni at this moment and he had to wait until he had the resources to raise a child.

As for those who think 3.5m to buy drinks that entertains kindreds and village people is much, it is not the parents that determine the price of those drinks, it is the economy. Most of them are accusing the parents, but it is not the parent's fault. No one wants to give out their daughters in marriage without the traditional rites, which is basically a traditional thing, especially when they have attended other people's marriages and drank and eat.
