The output of 92000 bpd is in itself a fall from 400000 bpd in 1987.(in 1987, we refined 400000 bpd, by 2012, it was 92000 bpd, and by 2019 it was 6000 bpd.).

Also, by 2012, we were a net importer of fuel. Those 92000 BPD produced about 10% of the petrol we used in Nigeria.

Right now, we are coming close to where we were in 1987. Dangote is refining about 350000bpd, NNPC is refining 60000 bpd. We are also becoming an exporter of refined products thanks to Dangote...slowly, but we are getting there. (We weren;t even during the heyday of the 1980's).

It's not anything APC did, it is just that removal of subsides due to APC's running out of money is making domestic refining profitable again.

With this development, I foresee decline in price and increase in smuggling of the product.
This is where the custom service and Police authority need to come to rescue.
Exportation should be done rightly to improve the GDP and exchange rate reduction.
It shall be well with Nigeria.

What are you on about? somebody lied that no refining was going on during GEJ and OBj's regime and lauded Tinubu as a messiah who did what others didnt, and you're comaparing installed capacity in 1987 to production capacity in 2012.
By the way, Nigeria had an "installed" capacity of slightly below 300bpd in 1987.
APC in less than 10 yrs depleted a 90bpd production capacity to zero and you're yapping about a private refinery, one that the criminals in power have been actively trying to sabotage ? What does that have to do with inefficiency and the corruption in the sector ?

Shut the fvck up and don't say a word on what you don't know.
Dollar bend your mouth for you there.
FX (Naira/dollar) only comes to play where there is international trade. It doesn't apply to domestic trade.
Crude is gotten in Nigeria, Refining of crude is done in Nigeria, so wetin concern FX Dollar in the matter?.
Are you buying crude outside Nigeria to pay in dollars or are you refining outside and importing the refined product to pay in dollars,?
Stop listening to all the lies you hear from Tinubu supporters. No FX is involved in domestic production and trade.
So keep your mouth shut about dollars influencing refined products domestically.
Olodo Rabata.

Who extracts your crude oil? International Oil Companies are still the major explorers and extractors of crude oil in Nigeria, and they value their products in dollars. Yes, crude oil extraction and exploration is not a domestic industry. Exxon, Shell, Total, and Eni sell their crude oil to Nigeria in dollars.

The NNPC's 445,000 barrel per day crude oil reserve has been mortgaged with the AFRIEXIM bank for loans by the Buhari and Tinubu governments, another form of international trade.

The militant, military and NNPC officials have destroyed the onshore crude oil industry with stealing and pollution; hence, you better get more dollars to pay for domestic crude oil.

You and the guy you are responding to should leave defending politicans please and you should disabuse yourself of the idea that I am defending apc or pdp or attacking them.

Nigeria did not have 300 bpd by 1987 otherwise there would have been massive fuel scarcity then. Especially as Kaduna had 125000bpd then.

The reason why fuel refining dimonished in Nigeria is simple. Subsidy.

A similar thing can be seen in Venezuela, which in the 1990s had a refinery capable of refining 900000 bpd. By 2009, it had fallen to 100000 bpd. Subsidy

Subsidy makes domestic refining unprofitable and promotes corruption and sabotage . It's why despite millions spent on tam, we had bad refineries. It is why we were a net importer.

And why that 90000 you are defending is a disgrace . It does not represent success. It represents how far we had fallen.

In 1990, new port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries refined a total of nearly 300000 bpd. I haven't mentioned old port Harcourt and warri.

Even at 90000 bpd we could not meet our domestic need. It represents a depreciation . We became a net importer.

That is why GEJ wanted to remove subsidy so as to make petrol profitable to refine at home. And that is why subsidy had to go once dangote came on line

PressMyButton:
After seven postponements, the Port Harcourt Refinery Company has finally commenced fuel production, promising a daily supply of about 200 trucks, as about one million litres of refined products were released by the plant on Tuesday.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited unveiled the refinery on Tuesday, saying the old facility, which has a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, had been revamped and upgraded with modern equipment.
It said the newly rehabilitated complex of the old Port Harcourt refinery is currently operating at a refining capacity of 70 per cent of its installed capacity.

NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, said the bigger refinery in the Eleme complex that houses the plants, with a 150,000-capacity, had yet to be completed.

Kyari said the bigger plant, including the Warri and Kaduna refineries, would come on stream later. However, he declined to give a timeline because President Bola Tinubu warned him from doing so after several postponements.

“We will deliver all the other projects. We are not going to give a timeline as he (Tinubu) has directed,” the GCEO said while appreciating the President for his support.

During the unveiling of the refinery, NNPC officials conducted stakeholders around the facility where they took samples of petrol, diesel, and kerosene.
The stakeholders who included marketers and the regulators also witnessed the loading of trucks at the gantry. It was stated that about 200 trucks of petrol would be released into the Nigerian market daily.

The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, expressed satisfaction with the development. According to him, with the Dangote refinery and Port Harcourt refinery producing, there will be fuel availability all over the country.
Ahmed also said the rehabilitation of Warri and Kaduna refineries would make Nigeria a net exporter of petroleum products instead of a net importer it has been for years.

The NMDPRA chief executive stated that the refinery would give people choices and promote healthy competition in the downstream sector.
He said the prices of petroleum products would come down due to enough fuel supply in the local market.
“Products will be available nationwide. What is important is that there will be competition and choices. All we’ve been talking about when I spoke in July was about choices, competition, availability, and affordability.
“We will see the prices of petroleum products coming down because there is ample supply. We hope the refinery will continue to sustain the current level of production. We are hoping that the second part of the refinery will come up very soon,” he stated.
