Husband's Passport Not Needed For Married Women To Renew Passports - Immigration by BluntCrazeMan(op): 5:27am On Nov 30, 2024
This is an update of the he earlier thread..

https://www.nairaland.com/8280917/why-does-married-nigerian-woman .....

.....Where married women complained that “the officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service demanded that they provide the passport-page of their husbands before their own passports can be renewed”.

The NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE has responded to the Query.

Hello Ijeoma,

Please be assured that there is no requirement for a married Nigerian woman to attach her husband's passport page or proof of his identity in order to renew her passport. This is not an official policy.

Nigerian International Passport renewal process remains based on the individual’s identity documents.
Any claims suggesting otherwise are incorrect.

However, For Change of Data (Due to Marriage):

A Nigerian female with an existing passport who intends to obtain a new passport with the new surname of her husband (upon marriage), needs to get amongst other things, the following documents:

- Newspaper publication of change of name due to marriage
- Wife’s Passport Datapage
- Marriage certificate
- Husband’s passport data page/ or NIN slip
- NIN Slip
- Local government certificate of origin
- Birth Certificate/ Declaration of Age.

For Change of Data (Due to Divorce)
Amongst other documents, a divorced woman should present in reverting to her maiden name, are:

- Decree Absolute
- International passport Datapage
- Newspaper publication to that effect
- NIN Slip
- Local government of origin certificate
- Birth Certificate/ Declaration of Age

For parents wanting to obtain international passports for their children, amongst the documents required include:

- consent letter countersigned by parent(s)
- International passport data page of parent(s)
- NIN Slip
- Local government certificate of origin
- Birth Certificate/ Declaration of Age

For renewal for married women who are not changing name, required documents includes:

- Expired international passport Datapage
- NIN Slip
- Local government certificate of origin
- Birth Certificate/ Declaration of Age

Of the 4 scenarios, only in two situations is a married woman required to provide the International passport data page/NIN of her husband.

Kindly be informed that each passport application has defined requirements regarding the type and number of documents that applicants are required to submit.

We encourage you to verify all information directly with the Nigeria Immigration Service via official channels to avoid any confusion or misinformation. Check the FAQs/SLA Tabs on immigration.gov.ng for guidance.

The Nigeria Immigration Service assures Nigerians of her unwavering commitment to Quality Service Delivery and Seamless Passport Acquisition Process.

For all those people who were venting on the other thread,, here is the Other side of the story..

So,, you need to be well informed and be properly guided, especially as you go to the Immigration Office next time (as a married woman) to renew your passport.

...

..
***Meanwhile..

For a married woman who had changed her surname to her husband’s surname earlier,,, I hope she shouldn't be required to provide her husband’s passport-page again-and-again everytime she wants to renew.??

Better, because I don't know how foolish a country can be to have even thought of that in the first place. Imagine, you did Sim registration, yet when your Sim card gets missing, they will still be demanding heaven and earth to retrieve it as if they don't have your finger prints, NIN and every other needed stuffs in their database earlier. They can even ask you for the length of your last conversation and recharge card you loaded last. Are all these not childish when you already have all my data and passport photograph during Sim card registration?

Sometimes, it's just better to put a call to the system than to crave for unnecessary attention.

If everyone begin act like the way this woman did, then we can not concentrate as a country.

Nobody trusts the government again in Nigeria.

Even when they sounded so clear..
We still doubt them.

Normal procedure.
The lady's initial reaction was an irresponsible emotional display. I would have said she wanted to trend, but knowing how quickly some people can jump to conclusions, I believe she thought she was right.

One of the hypothetical questions she raised concerned divorced women.
