The whole point of this topic is that when you tithe, make prayer requests or do whatever you want to do unto God, let it not be because you were seeking prosperity or riches for yourself from God, instead let it be because you love God and were seeking after His kingdom and righteousness, that's the only time whatever you do would please God.

No, it should not even be for any reason because God does not require tithes from Christians today. It was a practice by the Jews for the levitical priesthood

The length to which the prosperity preachers were taking the matter of tithing, one would think tithing has made many tithers, themselves inclusive, the richest men in the world, however that couldn't be any further from the truth, because tithing has never made any man to become world's richest, not even one.

Even king Solomon, the only man the Bible called world's richest, it wasn't tithing that made him to become the richest man in history.

In fact God Himself (who made Solomon richer than all those who lived before and after him) said the reason He gave Solomon such an unprecedented amount of riches, was because Solomon didn't ask for riches for himself, but the things that mattered to God.

And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

Furthermore the reason God gave for making Solomon the richest man that ever lived, also puts the idea being sold by prosperity preachers, that one needs to seek or strive for earthly riches or financial prosperity (as they do) to become rich in the mud, because Solomon didn't ask or seek after such things beforehand, just the things that mattered to God, yet all of the riches of all the prosperity seeking preachers in history combined cannot come close to matching the riches of king Solomon.

Just to illustrate how rich King Solomon became, he made silver and gold to become as stones in Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 1:15 (KJV)

And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.

That should already give an idea of the telling impact and ripple effect his riches had upon the lives of his people, Israel. It was to the extent the most precious metals, silver and gold, become as many as stones in their land.

That is what it truly means to be prosperous, when the prosperity reaches everyone that no one has lack among the people even as it was in the early church (Acts 4:34-35), not the kind of today's prosperity preachers that will be flaunting their earthly riches and even bragging about being dangerously rich in the faces of their members, while many of them yet wallow in abject poverty[/b]

Criticism of tithing should stop. Pastors should carry reorientation of their members that tithing these days is not necessarily biblical but a measure to support the propagation of the gospel.
Churches power their facilities and maintain equipment. They pay some hands to do this. They go for evangelism and even run charity. The funds for these can come from tithing amongst others. This is the particular reason I pay what looks like tithing but not necessarily tithing. It is just to support the propagation of the gospel.

I agree and like what you are written but the point is not criticism it is correction especially as it regards the souls of men.

I was once a member of a prospering church during my fellowship days in varsity... They made tithing their top priority to a point that if you don't give, you'd feel guilty... One day I decided to give a small tithe even though I had some good money in my wallet when I visited one of our fellowship church branches for a Sunday service... And on my way back, I felt so guilty that I ended up giving most of the money I had to this elderly lady I didn't know.

They'll always say things like, "if you give, blessings shall come your way, you shall be victorious in all that you do and more riches will come your way."

And whenever they preach, they'd like to refer to what the pastor says rather than what the Bible says... Tithing started becoming a competition amongst the members of the fellowship and the sisters would compete with their Sunday outfits... Me I was from a simple biblical church back home and the whole thing was a shock to me considering how it wasn't long before I became a Christian... One Sunday I went to the church wearing these new shoes that my dad had just bought me and one sister ran after me after church and she started complimenting the shoes... And as we were talking, she then asked me to borrow her my shoes for the next Sunday service.

I thought she was joking, but she followed me to my place of residence after our weekday service and asked for the shoes once more... She promised to wear them only once for the Sunday service and return them. I eventually gave her the shoes and she did came wearing them the following Sunday... It took months for her to finally return them and by the time she returned them, she had spoilt them... I was really bothered because I had been disturbing my father for those shoes for a while.

Like most of the fellowship members, she'd use her monthly allowance to buy new clothes for Sunday services and tithing... Sometimes she'd spent all her money on tithing that she'd not even have money to buy sanitary pads.

I then decided to slowly backslide from the day they elected me in my absence as the new cell leader... I started associating with the other leaders and that's when I saw that not everything is as it seems... Many of those leaders were fornicating and cohabiting with their girlfriends and boyfriends and to them it wasn't a big deal... But for me it went against the teachings of my church back home.

And as leaders we were allocated the amount of tithe that we were supposed to give and it was a lot considering that we were just students... I protested against it, but they'd use the head pastor's preachings against me... I then asked them how come many of them are fornicating freely when the bible says "the body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for God? And again I reminded them that sexual immorality and greed is regarded as improper for God's disciples, but they told me that their head pastor doesn't mind masturbation.

That was my queue for me to leave... My faith was crashed because I really loved that church.

Which church is that? Is it in Lagos, portharcourt,Ibadan or Abuja?

You cannot reap without sowing. That is the rule by which people become rich. That is the way of this universe. You don't have to be a Christian to be wealthy. Read Ecclesiastes to understand Solomon's thoughts on wealth. Who said both gentlemen didn't tithe?

NB Paying tithe is not about wealth.

Paying tithe is about being under the law of Moses, it's about neglected and rejecting the finished work of Jesus Christ and not being in Christ but claiming to be in Abraham or in Israel who commited the sin of Idolatry and brought about the institution of levitical priesthood of which Jesus is not a part of.

Paying tithe is about being an outsider looking for a widow to open while Jesus opened to way into the kingdom of God and says Peter who pays, sons or strangers and Jesus said sons are free but you live in ignorance and treat God the Father who will receive from by asking as a wicked man who will punish those who do not pay him.

Do you think that such insolence and disobedience to Jesus would grant you eternal life?

Destiny here never equates money per say, it goes way beyond that.
It means living to your full potentials, achieving your goals, making the most of your talents and opportunities.

Take for instance, those robbers set ablaze where not destined to die like that.
In fact, it would be unjust for God to do that.
Let's say HE predetermined that they would die like that, what right does HE have to judge them since he already predestined them for doom? It would be unjust.

Tithing is not about salvation. Paying your tithe is not the way to heaven. GOD paid the price already. None of our actions provides justification to make heaven. It is by GOD's will and grace alone that this happens.

As clearly stated, each Christian is meant to have a personal relationship with GOD. Do as your spirit leads.
