Safe to say it's just me that doesn't like this Ewa Agoyin, or maybe the first and only time I tried it, the vendor didn't prepare it well. It had this after bitter taste undecided
maybe but it's mostly made or honey beans and it's mashed the main secret is the fried dry sauce ..I think it's of a different specie cos it's not even peppering.

Lagos, the bustling commercial capital of Nigeria, is not just a melting pot of cultures but also a culinary haven. The city’s diverse population brings flavors from all corners of Nigeria and beyond, creating a vibrant food culture that is loved by locals and visitors alike. Here are six famous foods that Lagosians eat frequently, reflecting the city’s dynamic and delicious culinary scene. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
1. Jollof Rice

Arguably Nigeria’s most famous dish, Jollof rice is a staple in the diet of Lagosians. This one-pot dish, made with rice, tomatoes, peppers, and spices, is a must-have at parties, weddings, and family gatherings. Lagosians often pair Jollof rice with fried plantains (dodo), grilled chicken, or fish.

Jollof rice isn’t just food; it’s a cultural icon, sparking debates about the best recipe and holding a special place in the hearts of Lagosians.
2. Ewa Agoyin

Ewa Agoyin is a beloved street food that epitomizes the hustle and bustle of Lagos life. Made with soft, mashed beans served with a spicy pepper sauce, this dish is simple yet packed with flavor. Ewa Agoyin is often paired with freshly baked bread (agege bread), making it a popular breakfast or lunch choice for Lagosians on the go.

Street vendors across Lagos are known for their secret recipes for the pepper sauce, which keeps customers coming back for more.
3. Suya

Suya is a smoky, spicy meat skewer that has become a favorite evening snack for Lagosians. Made from beef, chicken, or goat meat, the suya is coated with a blend of ground peanuts, chili, and spices before being grilled to perfection.

Suya spots, often run by Hausa vendors, are scattered across Lagos and attract crowds in the evenings. It’s a favorite for social gatherings, paired with onions, tomatoes, and the occasional cold drink.
4. Amala and Ewedu

A traditional dish originating from the Yoruba people, amala is a favorite among Lagosians. Made from yam or cassava flour, amala is typically served with a slimy, nutrient-rich ewedu soup, and a spicy stew (obe ata). It’s often accompanied by assorted meats, fish, or ponmo (cow skin).

Amala joints are a common sight in Lagos, and the dish is particularly popular in areas like Surulere and Ikeja, where “buka” spots serve it with authenticity and flavor.
5. Indomie Noodles

A modern-day staple, Indomie noodles have become a go-to meal for many Lagosians, especially young people and busy professionals. Quick and easy to prepare, Indomie is often customized with toppings like fried eggs, vegetables, or sausages.

In Lagos, roadside vendors have taken Indomie to the next level, offering “Indomie Special” dishes with added ingredients like suya, chicken, or shrimp.
6. Akara and Pap

A quintessential Lagos breakfast, akara (bean cakes) and pap (fermented corn pudding) is a comforting meal that many Lagosians grew up eating. Akara is made by frying blended black-eyed beans seasoned with onions and peppers, while pap is a creamy, slightly sour pudding.

This combination is loved for its simplicity and affordability, often served by street vendors or prepared at home on weekends.
Conclusion

Lagos is a city where food is not just sustenance but a way of life. The dishes Lagosians eat frequently reflect the city’s vibrant culture, blending traditional flavors with modern convenience. From the party favorite Jollof rice to the quick and satisfying Indomie noodles, these meals are a testament to the creativity and diversity of Lagosian cuisine. Whether you’re visiting or a local, these foods are must-tries to truly experience the culinary heartbeat of Lagos.

Tbh, the famous Yoruba-styled smoky party jollof rice with marinated turkey/chicken and dodo is very tasty. I even love it more when bay leaves are infused into the jollof rice. Dayum!

Second, Ofada rice and the specially made ofada stew and/or ayamase stew combos are lit.

The OP's list left out asun (barbecued goat meat), BOLI (roasted/grilled plantains) and grilled marinated fish OR BOLI and peanuts as part of the neat Lagos street foods.
