NIGERIA’S latest unemployment data released by the National Bureau of Statistics flies in the face of lived realities with the potential to mislead economic planners. The NBS estimates that the unemployment rate declined to 4.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2024, down from 5.3 per cent in the previous quarter and 5.0 per cent in Q3 2023. This reflects improved labour conditions.https://punchng.com/nbs-jobless-figures-defy-reality/

Make Punch bring out their own make we see. The methodology of ILO which NBS is using now is the globally accepted system. Should Nigeria be using a methodology that is obsolete and unacceptable to the world as they have been doing before now? |

... and Mr Oyedele was using the incorrect data gathered from NBS for his tax reform proposal. What I detest so much about this tax reform bill was that the money will eventually end up in the pocket of few corrupt politicians, it will never benefit the masses. I can only align with this tax reform bill if it includes a proper way of monitoring the use of the taxes collected and if it also includes tax refund as practice by other countries. |

NBS is not serious. If we actually want to know the number of jobless Nigerians, NIMC must sponsor a bill to make it a criminal offence for Nigerians eligible to have NIN but don't have one yet. At least we have to know our population first. |

Yes, you might be rejected for that "reach" job, or that person you have your eye on might tell you that they're not interested. You might not get into your first choice college, or make the team. You might not be accepted into the "In Crowd." You might get ghosted, or ditched. You might apologize to someone, and not be forgiven, or maybe they'll forgive you but they won't want you to be a part of their lives anymore. You won't be able to change that, only accept it. But your worth doesn't change. And you won't be more worthy once you get a degree, or get a "real" job, or lose weight, or move out of your parents' house, or put on more muscle, or whatever else. You are worthy now. You are enough now. You matter now. Right now. Right here. Just as you are. No person or circumstance can ever change that or take that away from you. No, not even you, or the choices you make. |

National bureau of statistics is one foolish agency that wakes up one morning and decides to write any report that comes to their head, without any proper investigation. Apart from BVN & NIN registration, which is still useless to me, Nigeria still doesn't have proper data of her citizens, na why kidnappers dey do giveaway for TikTok unabated. 99% of reports coming out from NBS are false.

Even before ILO introduced me new methodology, Nigeria employment data is always wrongly stated by journalists (Punch). They used emotions as methodology.- Most of what's reference as unemployment is actually underemployment. Understanding this fact will help us plan better to unearth the underlying problem killing our economy Underemployment breed low purchasing power which kill innovation and new companies for lack of patronage and unable to break even Redistribution of Nigeria resources through new Tax regime like the one proposed now is the way to go Secondly stop giving job Nigerian can do to foreign contractors, reduce number of expats Thirdly every Nigerian must be paid a living wage that matches their contribution - Private school owners come to mind here |

The worst form deception is that of one self! This government is living in self denial. At a time many indigenous companies has closed down, the foreign ones left Nigeria and our markets are almost always sabotaged by state actors for one reason or the other, the value of naira at record low and a few whom are employed, can not make out a living from their salaries. The government even at the federal level systematically refused to increase salaries inspite of having announced increment of salaries several months ago,at the end of each month they do what they call 'tentative adjustment' to workers salaries and not the minimum wage announced, another scam. This has even increased the number of under employed persons,in a country where your 'take home pay',can not even take you home.Is a big shame. |

I said it them when those oluwole stastics were dished out. It was obvious those figures are being manipulated. The real figures will embarrasss the government hence that show of shame they displayed. As it stands now, no data from NBS should be taken seriously again. |
