Because it rewards hard work and identifies lazyness.

It will also reduce the near absolute dependency on (oyel generated) hand outs from central government.

I concur.
It should help propel states to see themselves as the next industrial hub from where goods sold all over ecowas and west africa is manufactured.

YES
1M. Any states claiming they have the numbers should use that number to generate taxes not population that is a nuisance to the general Nigeria.
2. Hisbah is destroying alcohol in the north, whereas, VAT generated from sales of alcohols in North Central, Southern Nigeria 60% of it goes to those states destroying the alcohol.
3. Oyel money from South is for Nigeria while Gold in the north is for northern politicians bandits

Your first point is subtle but very important.

The other two pale in significance.

I have learnt more on Nairaland over the past two days than I have ever since the elections.

There are still pockets of nuisance Obidients, bitching about Tax reforms because of election loss, all over the place but thankfully they are becoming easily identifiable.

You are going to make some people hate it by supporting it. You should have tried reverse psychology on them.

Start posting about how you hate it and watch them fall over themselves about how great it is.

Having said that, a lot of Obidients are impressively positive about it. I nearly fainted reading AfonjaConehead's take on it yesterday.

Hahahaha, some of them have been in the middle of the ocean, North in front, South West at the back.

They hate the tax exemptions North have been having privileges to for years yet they don't want to commend any of the government moves.

Two reasons. Tbough I earn more than the 800k a year. (Meaning I will continue paying tax) It makes sense that people earning less will not be taxed going forward.

Second reason is. Most of the time when VAT stats are released it feels like Lagos generate most VATs, like other states are not trying to do much, mean while these other states are constitutionally shortchanged for Lagos.

It's a welcome development. It will also give a real insight of activities going on in the states. And the states will be richer.

It's an insult to a place like Imo to be said to have contributed meager N200m in VAT whereas most of the things consumed in the state were unjustly taxed by Lagos, Rivers and Oyo.

The proposed bill is fair. Very fair to all.

I see Ogun earning way more in VAT generation than it's presently doing. Same for other states with population and commercial activities.

The richer you are the more tax you pay. The poor pay absolutely no tax except VAT on purchased item which is not a bad idea.

I'm in support because a lot of Nigerians who earn below #1,000,000 won't be paying tax

I'm in support because it will reduce the numbers of tax small, medium and large companies pay in Nigeria.

The initiative actually make sense. As long as you increase the tax base, reduction is inevitable because you will still generate more but be convenient for the tax payers

I support the tax reform because it can help reduce the burden on low-income earners and boost economic growth. If they can remove taxes on essential goods, it will make life easier for those of us who are struggling. This kind of change is what we need to benefit everyone. By the way, I offer shared apartments in Lekki and Lagos Island for those looking to share rent or short let. If you have an extra room to rent out or are searching for space, please contact me. We are also adding shared shops and commercial spaces based on demand. My services are limited to Lekki and surrounding areas.

I don't believe Tinubu on this tax reform. Nobody knows his agenda cos all his policies have never affected the masses positively. I'm from South west but I say NO.
Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by BigDawsNet: 11:14am On Dec 03, 2024
I’m in full support of the Tax Reform…

If we can consume alcoholic in the south and east+west and the north decides to ban the same alcohol in their region, then I believe they are not entitled to recive any VAT from it…

Also these Reform will help each region to stand on its own… nobody will depend on anyone to survive…

Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by dumahi(m):
I DON'T SUPPORT IT

because

EVERYONE ABOVE ME SUPPORTS IT.

Most people here need to get an idea of what is in the tax bill first before saying anything on it.

Many southerners are supporting it left, right, and center simply because Northerners are against it. I'm still looking for the original draft of the bill to read it because I'm sure that Tinubu cannot push a tax law like this if he's not planning a national version of Lagos Alpha Beta.

Nigerians are so easily deceived.
Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by ThunderfireNLMO:
I support it but APC led government especially Thiefn00bu can not be trusted. At times, I see the bill as a Trojan horse.

If the bill is meant to achieve what it spell out, then I think it's high time for the 36 state government to sit up and look inward on how to generate their respective IGR. The time of laxity and lazying around will come to an end. No more free money to the North and by 2025 when the census take place. All those inflated figures will be checkmated.
I will love state policing can be established as well.

Anyways, we are watching.
Re: Do You Support The Tax Reform? If Yes Why? by Nazgul:
I don't support anything from Tinubu's government cos all their reforms are targeted at ripping off the masses.

When fuel subsidy was removed, some people argued that it would help the government save money and channel it to other sectors for development.

Today despite the trillions they've claimed to save, they're still borrowing up and down. Worse is that we're not seeing what they're using the billions of dollars they've been borrowing to do. They just borrow and loot. It has gotten so bad that a reps member called $2b lunch money.

Should I talk about the floating of the naira, the increase of electricity tarrif, the increase in custom duties... I can go on and on.

None of these policies is currently benefiting the masses in any way. So what makes you think that the tax reform would?
