This is why I keep saying Iwobi should be playing as an AMF for us and should stopped being deployed as a CM, that is not his forte. |

Bannedlargejr:For me, my ranking of Nigeria best performance 1.Ekong 2 Lookman 3.Onyeka 4 Osimhen. 5.nwabali 6.Aina 7.Bassey Then the rest The whole team gave their all, but looking at Caf listing you can draw your conclusion who has the best performance. Same tournament that see Ekong listed among Best defenders? |

zicky:My Afcon best Super eagles performers.... 1.Ademola Lookman...3 goals and wonderful assist for Osimhen against EG was great. He had a great tournament and came to the parties when we needed him most.He was wonderful against Angola and Cameroon. 2.Troost Ekong...3 goals, scored Ivory Coast twice,a decisive penalty against Ivory Coast and had a wonderful tournament that surprised fans. 3.Ola Aina....played RB and LB in the tournament and had performance that would be remembered as the best by any eagles wingback in Afcon, though very average in the final. 4.Frank Onyenka...he was all over the field, worked his socks off with full energy, reminded fans of Onazi scintillating performance in Afcon 2013.It will take third eye to recognize Onyenka on the field. 5.Bassey Calvin...what a great tournament for the young lad.He did well in 3 man defence alongside Ekong and Ajayi and full of strength moving forward to complement Sanusi. 6.Stanley Nwabali...came in and gave us world class performance that have been eluding us in our goalkeeping department for a long time.He gave masterclass performance during penalty shootouts against SA. 7.Semi Ajayi....with Ekong and Bassey were on defensive all through the tournament based on Peseiro approached to our games. He formed a good understanding at the back with Ekong and Bassey.I rated the trio as the best cuz they did very well defensively. He was denied a goal against Cameroon. 8.Osimhen Victor...a goal in the tournament but worked for the team throughout and had a great performance against Cameroon, especially never die assist to Lookman speak volume of his class. The team generally did well, hope we make it to WC. |

For posterity sake there was nothing special in Osimhen's AFCON performance. Let's set this clear. Osimhen's performance was not in any sense bigger than the whole team's performance. From Stanley Nwabali who was our goalkeeper and the revelation of the tournament. To the balance of play grit and sturdy display of Ekong, Bassey, Aina, calmness of Ajayi. The midfield brought about Oneyka, whose tireless run were magnificent. It placed Iwobi in a position where he was mostly ineffective in our midfield and became the food for trolls. Chukwueze , Moses Simon , Lookman perfemored decently. Osimhen was the star boy, and I dare say that after his two missed chances against Equatorial Guinea, where we played our most dominant game, let's not forget when we say the coach is ultradefensive that he didn't start the tournament that way, but realized the enormous mistake he might make if he didn't make such adjustment to suit Osimhen. Iwobi's two creative passes to Osimhen were squandered by Osimhen in our opening game in AFCON. In subsequent games Iwobi is forced to sit deeper with Onyeka killing his creativity for the good of the game. If Osimhen had converted those chances , we might have been sure that we have a constant scorer who will go on to achieve the highest goal scorer like Jude Ighalo did in 2019 under Gernot Rohr. Rohr is a much more defensive manager. Take nothing away from the ruggedness of Osimhen winning penalties and all, but should Lookman possess just similar skills like Osimhen then we are doomed for exit. Thankfully we had a manager who controlled his game well and understood his team well. That AFCON tournament in Ivory coast had no forgiveness. Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Ivory coast were àll beaten by minnows. If Osimhen had the goals in the last AFCON I dare say he probably will not be playing at Galatasaray right now. Ighalo was brought over to Manchester united by Ole Solsjaer simply because of his exploit at the 2019 AFCON where he was top scorer. It only took Rohr one match to change his first choice striker from Onuachu to Ighalo in the match against Burundi at 2019. Though Osimhen will later score the equalizer through a Lookman lob as we settled for a draw. But that was enough to make the coach switch up to allow Osimhen play to his rugged strength and give room for Lookman to run behind him and do the finishing. |

charlesemeka85:Please I have a funny question. Assuming Osimhen joins PSG by January. If eventually both PSG and Galatasaray win their respective league, what is the fate of Osimhen? Which of the medals is he entitled to? Just a question, too early to predict winners of both leagues |

Like Chris said few pages ago this thread is becoming my something else 🤦♀️ Can’t believe in 2024 someone is still naming Nwakali as an option in our midfield when we have more vibrate and younger options littered everywhere |

DeloitteNG:and which midfielder in top leagues which aren’t performing? Or it’s that the new logic to justify the rubbish una dey peddle here of late? Una want xavi and iniesta or zizou and pirlo in our midfield when u don’t hv any. All u should pray for is to hv a coach who can make do with what we have at hand A nation that boast of midfielders seeing enough playing time in their clubs as listed below Ndidi-leicester Iwobi- Fulham Onyedika- Club Brugge Chrisantus- Getafe Bashiru- Lazio Ojediran- Rc Lens Onyeka- Augsburg Yet all we have been wailing and crying for is a misfit who haven’t settled in any reasonable club since he left the shores of Africa close to a Decade ago Even a lot of national teams can’t boast of the numbers/qualities we hv in midfield yet they re doing pretty well as a team Mk una receive sense for once cus e don chase una tire and it’s getting fade up |

Bashiru scored in his debut for the team he was named the next big thing and better than iwobi The same Bashiru had a below par game against Rwanda and now he is not the answer to our midfield Ndidi is bad and a carpenter according to all of una Iwobi is the worst that ever worn super eagles jersey Onyeka is all brawl with no brains It’s high time una use clay mold that complete midfielder wey una Dey find 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 |

charlesemeka85:Oga teams like Rwanda, Benin and Lesotho are dominating midfield against us That's a big insult Even a blind man knows we currently have a midfielder problem and clamouring for any midfield to come solve our problem is highly welcome The same way we had goalkeeper issue And jp brought a goalkeeper from south Africa league to address this issue which he did I know with this your mentality you would have preferred we stick to Uzoho and Okoye because Nwabali is playing in the South Africa league Omo this time league nor matter Anybody that can solve our midfield problems is highly welcome even if he dey Uzbekistan league |

DeloitteNG:dominating midfield from you isn’t that due to the system/tactics ur coach deployed? What do you expect from a midfield 2 playing against a midfield 3? And Nwakali will stop these teams u mentioned from dominating our midfield? Receive sense and rest Uzbekistan midfielder |
