How did we loose out on the lad
Lol Mrs Humility at it again. So make we call am up because he scored in a cup game at 25years old? How many times has he made Lazio's match day squad let alone start for Lazio?

dominating midfield from you isn’t that due to the system/tactics ur coach deployed? What do you expect from a midfield 2 playing against a midfield 3?

And Nwakali will stop these teams u mentioned from dominating our midfield? Receive sense and rest

Uzbekistan midfielder
Go back and watch our game against Rwanda
We played a midfield of Yusuf/Onyedika/Bashiru
With Onyeka coming on from the bench
Rwanda dominated this midfield with midfielders playing in th Rwanda league

We forget that all we achieved in Afcon is now in the archive. We built nothing on that achievement.

For posterity sake there was nothing special in Osimhen's AFCON performance. Let's set this clear.

Osimhen's performance was not in any sense bigger than the whole team's performance.

From Stanley Nwabali who was our goalkeeper and the revelation of the tournament. To the balance of play grit and sturdy display of Ekong, Bassey, Aina, calmness of Ajayi.

The midfield brought about Oneyka, whose tireless run were magnificent. It placed Iwobi in a position where he was mostly ineffective in our midfield and became the food for trolls. Chukwueze , Moses Simon , Lookman perfemored decently.

Osimhen was the star boy, and I dare say that after his two missed chances against Equatorial Guinea, where we played our most dominant game, let's not forget when we say the coach is ultradefensive that he didn't start the tournament that way, but realized the enormous mistake he might make if he didn't make such adjustment to suit Osimhen.

Iwobi's two creative passes to Osimhen were squandered by Osimhen in our opening game in AFCON. In subsequent games Iwobi is forced to sit deeper with Onyeka killing his creativity for the good of the game.
If Osimhen had converted those chances , we might have been sure that we have a constant scorer who will go on to achieve the highest goal scorer like Jude Ighalo did in 2019 under Gernot Rohr. Rohr is a much more defensive manager.

Take nothing away from the ruggedness of Osimhen winning penalties and all, but should Lookman possess just similar skills like Osimhen then we are doomed for exit. Thankfully we had a manager who controlled his game well and understood his team well. That AFCON tournament in Ivory coast had no forgiveness. Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Ivory coast were àll beaten by minnows.

If Osimhen had the goals in the last AFCON I dare say he probably will not be playing at Galatasaray right now.

Ighalo was brought over to Manchester united by Ole Solsjaer simply because of his exploit at the 2019 AFCON where he was top scorer.

It only took Rohr one match to change his first choice striker from Onuachu to Ighalo in the match against Burundi at 2019. Though Osimhen will later score the equalizer through a Lookman lob as we settled for a draw. But that was enough to make the coach switch up to allow Osimhen play to his rugged strength and give room for Lookman to run behind him and do the finishing.
nice

Was Osimhen terrible?

Osimhen, Ekong, Onyeka, Nwabali were huge performers at the Afcon for Nigeria. Top 5 alongside Lookman.

It is a throw up between the man who made our attack possible in the Ultra defensive counter attacking approach we employed because he was the perfect focal point AND the man who masterminded the defensive organisation of Jpes' defensive Masterplan.

On one hand is Osimhen and on another it is Ekong. Simple.
Ekong, Nwabali and Lookman were the top 3 performers at AFCON. Followed by the rest. Even Sinom self perfomed. Osimhen performed but kept missing chances. He wasn't top 5 to be candid.

Where do we place Aina, Bassey and Seyi? In short, all of them performed but Ekong, Nwabali and Lookman were outstanding.

This is why I keep saying Iwobi should be playing as an AMF for us and should stopped being deployed as a CM, that is not his forte.
Please, don't be deceived by Iwobi's recent form. He is not an attacking midfielder.

Osimhen was top 3 to be candid. Without him, we are not making it past the round of 16 not to mention getting to the final.

You are underplaying the importance of having a striker of his ilk feature in that haram defensive setup and still carried the attack on his back. No other striker could have made such immense impact. None! Not Awoniyi. Not Boniface. Not Iheanacho. Not Sadiq. Not Tolu. Not Akor. Not Moffi. None of them.

Osimhen gave our attack purpose and shape and carried the Fear Factor of the team on his shoulders. He was major key to how we targeted our transition game in the counter.

Ekong was awesome. Lookman shone. Aina was superb, Nwabali was a sweet revelation amongst others but Osimhen was beast level throughout. Without him, no final.

Doc! I think what a lot of our fellow posters don't realize is that in the AFCON tournament there were crucial moments where without Osimhen's impact the team would have crumbled.

Have some of us forgotten how barely a few hours to the semifinal game against SA Victor was receiving drip and seriously dehydrated yet came through to win a penalty out of nothing. I'm not saying he had a fantastic tournament but boy was he crucial to our success.

Like Maradona for the Argentines in Italia 1990 who didn't perform to his best but almost with sheer will power helped drag the team to the finals with notable contributions from Cannigia and the goalkeeper whose name escapes me now.

Coming from a football know-nothing.

I guess it was also biased of the entire Nigerian fans section at the stadium to chant Osimhen!!! Osimhen!!! Osihmen!!!! after Nigeria's 2-0 win over Cameroun in the round of 16.

Lookman scored 2 goals but Nigerian fans knew who truly won us that game.

Argue with actual eye test facts and not jumping on the informed post like an ignorant toddler.

I don’t have time arguing with a drunk so if you are to rate super eagles best player at afcon you will rate Osimhen ahead of Lookman , Nwabali and Ekong
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 8:40pm On Dec 06, 2024
I didn't even rate Osimhen ahead of Ekong. I literally answered a question which only intelligent minds followed. I addressed it in previous posts.

But you are not intelligent. You are daft and ignorant and that is why you are making this unsound assumption. Now be gone, attention seeking knowledge dwarf.

I have argued the game on a level you can only dream of. No drunk gets there or have my depth. So say something intelligent to me instead of babbling for attention.

And yes, Osimhen was a top 3 performer at the Afcon and I still insist without him, we would not have reached the Afcon final. What your dull brain could have asked is who else are in that top 3? But no. You are daft.

Meanwhile... I guess this is biased (click on shorts link below). Osimhen chants right after a game in which Lookman scored 2 goals. Even Lookman joined in the chants. He knows. Everyone at that stadium knows Osimhen won us that Cameroun game.
