It has already been explained that the act is rooted in tradition, yet someone still has mind to say the Bride was forced.
There are two fathers in that ceremony, talking about what they are doing in this light is tantamount to labeling them as ignorant or old school.

All the Benin wedding ceremonies I have witnessed including mine, it was placed directly on the grooms laps seven times, not on the groom's father's laps . The father is only told to place his hands on his son's shoulders.
