cococandy: ![]() The USA is actually doing better than keeping a robust middle class. When liberals & progressives and all the moralists cite data about the shrinking middle class, they neglect what for them is an inconvenient truth - a good chunk of those leaving the middle class are rising into the upper class. Complaining about OTHER PEOPLE'S GREED does make for good political fodder. The Pew Foundation is a fairly middle of the road recorder of USA socio-political and economic stats - https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/04/20/how-the-american-middle-class-has-changed-in-the-past-five-decades/ I also added a Statista chart of US poverty rates from 1990 to 2023....that's almost a demographic generation of 25 years. We need to read deeper my people. Take the Nigerian community for instance. Liberals will tell you they're automatically disadvantaged by their race - but I'll ask everyone if they think that Nigerians generally experience UPWARD or DOWNWARD economic class mobility over a demographic generation of 25 years in the USA? I would really like people to answer this question. Everybody think about YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE as an immigrant in the USA if that's where you live....are you poorer than 10 years or 20 years ago, if you've been here that long? So why would you think the middle class is being decimated? The number of inflation adjusted dollar millionaires in the USA has been increasing over the past 2 generations in both raw numbers and as a percentage of the population. Anyone who doubts it can simply consult reputable online sources. Quite aside from the numbers, material living standards for the POOREST PEOPLE in the USA have vastly improved too. This is a very important consideration. Everyone should think it through. When I got to the USA, hardwood floors were mainly seen in upper middle class homes or not generally in rental apartments...rentals were almost always carpet. I remember going to richer homes and wondering how they could afford such expensive hardwood floors. But CAPITALIST GREED has driven innovation in the last two decades and led to the invention and cheap mass production of ENGINEERED HARDWOOD floors. These are ARTIFICIAL plastic based materials that look like and almost feel like hardwood but are water proof, more durable and just as beautiful. This thing has REVOLUTIONALIZED rental apartments, they're so cheap and easy to install. Now in the USA many rental apartments have these floors and poor people can enjoy them without the dust and dirt of carpets and landlords don't have to change carpets every time a tenant moves. When I was a restaurant worker I couldn't afford to live in apartments with such floors, today restaurant workers can afford it. What price do you put on that kind of change? The bottom line is that Americans are getting RICHER and have been getting richer for a long time. Yeah everyone has a right to complain, humans can never be satisfied and that's good. I'll be getting to the CEO thing. Liberalism defies nature, logic and facts, but these are the times we're in. Good Luck to Nigerians.

cococandy:There are also people who got insured, paid 5months premium got health conditions that the Insurance paid millions for. You cant say the Insurance company only does bad. On medical cost alone, Most Americans without Insurance wont get any form of health care. For everyone who got their 400K medical bill handled by Insurance that is one good CEO there, For anyone whose car got totalled and the insurance paid back Thats is an example there Those type of CEOs come in every sector not just the health sector. Their massive successes often comes from others’ sweat not because they worked so hard. As you can attest, you didn’t become Elon from working hard. Elon didn’t become Elon by working hard. They succeed because they screw people over. Over and over until the point of death. They all got successful because they worked hard whether physical or mental, I wont reduce peoples effort especially those way more successful than I am. There is a saying in Nigeria "If e easy go do am". There are people you and I can screw over too and become wealthy. Do am if e easy I can work as hard as I want, If I am not smart like him or see opportunities like him, or take risks like him plus get lucky like him. I wont be successful like him We are not a country that demean success, we celebrate success In your line of thought, we can ask what a Doctor does to deserve 350K per annum when he only spends 10mins with the patient while the CNA who does all the heavy work, cleaning shiit lifting patient only gets 50K per year |

bemeruca:Like Nursing aide or janitor will ask why Neurosurgein gets paid more than him When running the business, I will finish my regular job and resume at the business when my work colleagues were heading to happy hour. I didn't have a weekend, While my staff were home chilling with their family. My entire weekend I will be at the business doing paper work to govt, planning for the week, sorting payroll. One time I got a new place, had to renovate. I was working with the Hispanic construction guys full time, Painting oh, carrying stuff, One time the bathroom got blocked na me get "snake" from home depot to fix it. By the end of that day you cant tell the difference between me the CEO and Hector the painter. The paycheck from my regular job I was pouring into the business So assuming the business turned around now, someone who never missed his weekend or sleep will ask why I am taking 300 times Like I said if e easy go do am |

raumdeuter:I didn’t say all CEOs are bad or that insurance is bad. Also didn’t argue that they should make the same amount of money as everyone else in order for life to be fair. We’re disagreeing as to what extent their compensation needs to be higher than the average person. It gets to a point where it’s unsustainable. And you’re often the one asking where will the money come from for this or that. Shouldn’t you be wondering where the money will come from for unsustainable CEO compensations? Because the money is surely not coming from their hardwork whether you agree or not. They all got successful because they worked hard whether physical or mental, I wont reduce peoples effort especially those way more successful than I am.no that’s why. But you can hold onto that belief There is a saying in Nigeria "If e easy go do am". There are people you and I can screw over too and become wealthy. Do am if e easyif only I could’ve been born into a white apartheid emerald miner’s family who stole/exploited the natural resources of a country for personal gain and then invested the money in America. Maybe I too would have found it easy I can work as hard as I want, If I am not smart like him or see opportunities like him, or take risks like him plus get lucky like him. I wont be successful like himYes, You can be smart and work hard and take risks all you want. You can succeed too. But you won’t succeed your way into billionaire status without exploitation. The least you can do after that is to reinvest that into the Human Resources you exploited on your way up. Trickle down economics. That’s you guys’ slogan. They need to practice what they preach. We are not a country that demean success, we celebrate successWe celebrate success. Not unbridled greed. In your line of thought, we can ask what a Doctor does to deserve 350K per annum when he only spends 10mins with the patient while the CNA who does all the heavy work, cleaning shiit lifting patient only gets 50K per year350k is 7 times 50k. Thanks for making my point. Because we can see how a life saving doctor is making 7x the lower paid worker. What’s the basis of comparing a billionaire CEO whose workers aren’t even making that 50k? |

raumdeuter:No, you don’t necessarily have to ”apply yourself rigorosouly“. Ask my friend who is a Math lecturer. He will tell you that he didn’t work hard at all to get his degrees. The wealth divide among upper-income families and middle- and lower-income families is sharp and risingIbeokehie you’re asking people to read deeper? Did you read the research you’re quoting from? Because it sure as hell demonstrates the widening income gap between the lower middle class, middle class and upper class. Also mind you that inflation makes it such that a person earning 100k today is worse off than someone earning 60k 5-10 years ago. While on paper they’ve become middle class, the hardship they feel says otherwise. So when you are trying to paint a picture, use all the colors pls. Anyway since you republicans believe conservative policies favor the middle class. why are your red states financial worse off then? |

raumdeuter:If everyone is a CEO who will run the company? Some people do not understand, they are driven by envy. The CEO's job is to make sure others continue to get paychecks, stay competitive, and adapt to the ever-changing business environment. An accountant does not influence the direction a company may take. |

cococandy:CEOs just don't sit around and do nothing. I have worked with them in the UK and their decisions are always in the direction of efficiency. The compensation CEOs get, especially at higher levels, are often tied to performance metrics such. stock prices, growth, and profitability. All this results while involving a team, are influenced significantly by strategic decisions made at the top. The value created by these decisions can far exceed the cost those compensation. Take Elon Musk and Tesla for example. if a CEO's leadership results in a billion-dollar increase in company valuation, a multi-million-dollar salary might be seen as a justified return on investment. Elon promised this and took all the risk as investors and everyone sat back with their popcorn and watched. Now it's time to cash out bad actors are fighting it. |

cococandy:The extent is to what they deem fit given their effort and investment if they think 300 times is okay then so be it cococandy:If not then everyone will be doing it cococandy:There are thousands of people from the same background who made nothing out of their lives. Elon was smart and took risks where others didnt want to cococandy:There are thousands of family who are able to tke care of themselves because billionaires reinvest their money and it trickles down. I ill trust the billionaires who have a track record of creating wealth than govt. Bezos, Musk Gates etc Thousands of family depend on Jeff Bezos Amazon delivery to eke a living. I know many Naija and immigrant whose first job is Amazon delivery and they are able to fend for their families. Thousands of Programmers who are earning well, Your younger bro finish college, gets that 250k job with stock options at Tesla, he goes from just a nerd to having a networth over 1m in 5yrs. By year 10 hes worth 20m. That is wealth trickling down cococandy:Greed is good, Greed is what leads to innovation. Elon/Bezos/Zuckerberg could have stopped at 20bn and still be comfortable but he was greedy for more and by being greedy he employed more people to create more for him cococandy:Dangote owns the refinery that employs Engineers with PhDs, while Dangote himself might not be able to solve one differential equation but he is 400 times more important than any Engineering PhD to the refinery A doctor is also an employee in most cases. The doctor does not know how the rent is paid, how the light is kept on, how patients even come into the hospital, how advertising is done, how credentialing with insurance is done, how prior authorization is processed, how they collect payments. Doctor just enter room see patient, use his knowledge to make prescription and move on to the next go home and get paid. . If rent is not paid, light not available equipment not working, insurance not paying, advertising not done, then how does the doctor get to work effectively? The CEO ties every business process together Its to show you there is always heirarchy depending on how much skin you have in the game. A gateman can make 30k per annum, nurse make 50k, doctor make 350K, Neurosurgeon make 900k a year while the CEO makes 10m a year |

budaatum:No one has barred women, but women themselves chose not to work in the rig in the middle of nowhere. I stated that policymakers in Nordic countries were stunned to realise that their women INTENTIONALLY declined to work in industries that have tougher conditions, harsher weather situations but have higher salaries. Are you saying women don't have the free will to make the right decisions for themselves? We have fewer women choosing to study physics or mathematics, so how would companies suddenly employ women enmass when the pipeline isn't abundant with women? Do companies have to forge women out of thin air just to fulfil gender parity policies? No company pays less to anyone who decides to work in the middle of nowhere. However, someone who goes on more leaves per year and works fewer hours would most likely be paid less than a colleague who takes fewer or no leaves per annum and works longer hours. That is basic capitalism. If women are paid less than men to work in rigs, why are companies not employing only women? Wouldn't this reduce their labour costs? Why would a profit-oriented company miss the golden opportunity to reduce costs in a bid to increase profits? The gender pay gap does not exist. It is a terrible and disgusting lie that has gone too far. Expectedly, it does not get traction on Twitter any longer. So why are educated Nairalanders peddling this lie in big 2024? One common explanation is that women are more likely than men to choose public sector careers. This contributes to the pay gap (public sector jobs tend to pay less) and limits the pool of female talent available for top private sector roles. But the reasons women tend to pick these careers remain up for debate. Last year, researchers in the US and UK found that countries with an existing culture of gender equality have an even smaller proportion of women taking degrees in science, technology and mathematics (STEM).https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20190831-the-paradox-of-working-in-the-worlds-most-equal-countries If you notice, the article is dated in 2019. We are almost in 2025. Please let's stop peddling untrue information on Obasanjo's Internet. |

Actblue tells congress they were still accepting fireign money as donations till fall. Implication. Foreign donors were sending money to Actblue which then donated to democrats pretending it was from Joe plumber. Could the bazillion dollars sent to Zelensky have been wired back from. Ukraine to actblue and then on to democrats and RINOs? Did Kamala actually raise $1.5 billion from willing donors? Over to Trump DOJ to dig this up?

There will be a reckoning moment Andrew McCabe a current CNN analyst grift job was spying on Kash Patel and other Congressional staffers. Kash Patel led Devin Nunes investigation into Russia collusion hoax He co-authored a report that was blocked by FBI. In the last days of his presidency Trump declassified this particular binder but FBI stonewalled it The instructions ere to make it public days after he left office. Presumably it has details of the dirty players in the hoax... Comey, Mueller,Rosenstein, McCabe, Sally Yates, McCord, Bruce Ohr, Clapper, Brennan, Steve Halper, Fusion GPS, Hillary Clinton etc . A copy of this binder went missing , the FBI was desperate to get it back. Because of national security my ass. Now you can understand why the Mar a Lago raid had to take place. Also why the RINOs and democrats don't want Kash Patel as head of FBI Kash Patel as head of FBI which spied on him previously. It's a foregone conclusion now that he will get the post, Chris Wray is set to resign before Jan 29. I'm elated. Will these deep state actors go to Canada?

I am suspicious of black people who claim to be liberal as black people are generally conservative in every part of the world. The gender pay does not exist. Period! Facts don't have to care about your lovey-dovey feelings! If the pay gap exists, employ ONLY women and pay them big big money. BLord in Nigeria does it. The free market permits it. budaatum:Yes, feminism has done a good job in narrowing the "gap", but the narrative that women are barred or restricted from working from in any industry is entirely false. Women make their choices. An instance is women in the mining industry choosing to work in the office rather than in the mines. However, those who work in the mines earn more than those in the office. In any scenario, those who chose to work in the mines would out-earn their office counterparts. How is that the fault of men or any political party? See: "Mining’s push for gender diversity threatened by ‘Andrew Tate’ effect" - Financial Times. The biotech industry is a perfect industry where women's parity is almost if not 50%. Why? Women love biological programs and in some cases are preponderant in academic classes. Yet men dominate management positions. Why? The Motherhood penalty which is avoidable if a woman decides to be single and child-free. I already stated that lesbians out-earn married women. The Financial Times is more left-leaning than anyone on this thread. I already stated that the Motherhood Penalty as reported by the Economist; another social-left leaning newspaper, much more than any commentator here. Why is it that our people would see 1 + 1 which equals 2, but insist it is 3? Chai! |

cococandy:The world today is much wealthier than during the '60s. There is less poverty today than 100 years ago. People live longer these days than 50 years ago. All thanks to human ingenuity and capitalism. Fine, in the face of declining birth rates, something has to change. But we should remember the past and now. People in the 1900s would be terribly envious of the comforts and standard of living someone in 2024 enjoys. Capitalism did that. Humans are naturally greedy, and so far, that is the only economic system that caters to that trait. Unsurprisingly, it is the only economic system that has pulled more people out of poverty than any other economic system. |

Gerrard59:The below is from your own link, but I guess you'd like to claim things have changed since 2019 However, there are still surprisingly few women in senior private sector roles. Just 28% of managers in Denmark are female, rising to 32% in Finland and Norway, and 36% in Sweden, according to a report by independent think tank The Cato Institute in 2018. Iceland is the highest-scoring Nordic country, with 40%. But that is still three points behind the US, where 43% of managers are women, despite the US ranking just 51 in the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap index.I am very certain it is worse in Nigeria where most believe the woman is the man's rib. |

cococandy:The gap between classes doesn't matter. Liberals emphasize the gap to stoke envy and ginger up votes. Jeff Bezos started Amazon in 1995 with $300K and is now worth over $100 billion. Around that time I was in the lower working class and now I'm in the middle class. Someone who was in college around the same time as me now earns double my own income working for Amazon. Bezos started with a car and now owns private jet and yacht, me I started in the USA walking to work and now I own cars. So what the hell does it matter to me or her what Bezos is worth? All three of us have gained significant increases in our wealth and well being. Which is actually the major advantage of liberal capitalism, that the rising tide of a free market lifts all boats. There should be no complaints about inequality if there's broad improvement in living standards. In fact that is THE economic definition of DEVELOPMENT, anyone can look it up. And here's the other thing - there is NO SOLUTION FOR INEQUALITY. It's a condition of nature. Even in Communist North Korea the President sure lives better than the bus drivers. It's like complaining that the sun rises every morning. Again, what's the point? Really. The research cited from Pew and other places was specifically meant to shed more light on the truth that the middle class is shrinking. Yes, but where are those middle class people going? The LONG TERM evidence in the USA is that more middle class people are moving UPWARD to the upper class THAN DOWNWARD to the lower class. It explains a lot. As for Red States vs Blue States, the summary argument is simple and straightforward. Same argument I made to someone on this Nairaland who was going on and on about how Europe (I think Germany?) is better than the USA. Compare migration numbers. There's an EPIC POPULATION MIGRATION away from Blue States to Red States. No, it's not the weather...check the migration pattern between Indiana and Illinois for instance. Here's a stunning stat for liberals - for the first time since the end of slavery, Black Americans are now LEAVING the State of Illinois and their major destinations are the Slave States of the Confederacy. As for FINANCIAL CONDITIONS, anyone can look up the current deficits and general financial health indicators such as credit ratings of California & New York vs Texas and Tennessee. California is a financial disaster. This is big news RIGHT NOW ....I'm surprised at anyone citing Blue States as financially stable. Those states are broke and that's why they're taxing their residents heavily. Petrol Tax is set to go up AGAIN in California by 60 cents in the next month or so. Ahhhh, wetin again? I don tire....there was the CEO thingy... cococandy:Well thanks for acknowledging they deserve more. They deserve whatever the market price is for CEO's. There's nothing else to say about that other than to encourage those who think they can do better to just go ahead and start companies based on their notions of equitable pay. This is one reason why labour unions are a joke. Why try dictating to management when they can get together and form their own company and implement their own rules? They have thousands of members and can easily raise the capital required. Magnoliaa:Nigerians need to stop looking at the NOW and pay more attention to the HOW. The average CEO that you see is not a product of his or her effort alone. The point has been made over and over that SUCCESS is a generational pursuit. The bountiful RESULTS that have become targets of envy are the accummulation of labour, blood, sweat and tears invested over generations. That is how INHERITANCE works and it's not just money. Look at sports & entertainment, it's the same thing. Notice how so many Asian Indian CEO's like Vivek Ramaswamy or top politicians like Rishi Sunak are children of medical doctors? The father of Kemi Badenoch is a medical doctor too. It takes a lot of work to qualify and practice as a medical doctor and then pour the accummulated capital into a child who goes on to achieve superlative performance. Again, nobody falls from the sky with capital. Anyway I don tire. Death to Socialism, liberalism and leftism Good Luck to Nigerians. |
