Thank God, Thank President Tinubu, Oyebanji tells Ekiti workers as they receive new minimum wage

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on Monday told workers in the state to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enabling the state to pay the new minimum wage to its workforce.

The Governor stated this when hundreds of civil servants stormed his office in Ado-Ekiti , dancing and singing in appreciation of payment of the new minimum wage as reflected in their December salary, which was paid same day.

Governor Oyebanji said the minimum wage was made possible because of President Tinubu’s reforms which ceded more funds to the states.

He said but for the President’s reforms which gave more money to states, a number of state governments would not have been able to pay the minimum wage.

Governor Oyebanji also hinted on the possibility of increasing the minimum wage once the state get more resources.

“Honestly, I don’t think you should thank me. We have not done anything unusual. You worked hard and got paid by government. But I thank you also for showing appreciation. Thank God and after God, the only person you should thank is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I I’m saying this because what you are seeing today are the outcomes of the reforms he embarked on.

“You know states would not have been able to pay the minimum wage if there had not been a remarkable improvement in our allocation. When he embarked on the reforms, he did so having in mind that it may be painful initially, but at the end of the day, it will be in the interest of all of us.

“My Plea to you is to support the President. It can get better because N70,000 is just the minimum, we can go beyond it if our situation improves and I know that by the time all these reforms start to bear fruits, there would be a quantum increase in what comes to the states and we can come to you and say yes, we can afford to add more.

I thank President Bola Tinubu for the courage and boldness to walk a lonely path, because when he embarked on the reforms, most people didn’t believe in him, but because he is a leader that is future thinking he has been able to achieve more.

“My advice to workers is that we should remain steadfast, be patient and cooperate with the Government. We should also educate others on the usefulness of these reforms to our survival as a nation.

Earlier, the workers who were led to the Governor’s office by some Permanent Secretaries, thanked the Governor for fulfilling his promise to ensure they got a good deal in the minimum wage payment.

Specifically, the Permanent Secretaries among them thanked the governor for including them in the new wage, thereby ending several years of exclusion in the minimum wage arrangement.

The development, according to them, had confirmed Governor Oyebanji’s promise to ensure that every category of workers benefit from the new minimum wage.

The Governor, who just came out from the state executive council meeting, was accompanied by Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro and some state commissioners to receive the jubilant workers.

It is recalled that Governor Oyebanji had last month announced that the new minimum wage would become effective in the state by December 1. Workers in the state started receiving bank alert for the December salaries on Tuesday.

Ok. How about those who aren't govt workers?
The orphans?
The widows?
The peasants?

Some of us are suffering differently. Ours is worse, the inflation is killing. It takes lots of effort to make 2k, but just within a few seconds, it's all gone on nothing. Hope do we cope?
It never gets better. There're no good paying jobs, yet prices of commodities continue to rise and rise.

We all know that Nigeria is not perfect and the leaders are devil's representative on earth.

However, when evaluating the devils, some are better than others....

This is Ekiti state ooo...one of the poorest in the country....

Some oil producing states are yet to start paying the 70K minimum wage...

Well-done ooo Mr Governor....at least you are better than most

that is the main issue with Nigerians. Everyone is talking about people that are working for the government. The fuel subsidy that was removed was for the whole Nigerians, the evil schemes for "cushioning" the effects of fuel subsidy removal are geared towards government and state workers.

by the way, with the new minimum wage, you can't afford a bag of rice after two months of toiling grin grin grin

I see Minimum Wage going up to N100k very soon. Once investment starts coming into the North and Agriculture is jump started, food go plenty, money go plenty and with credit lines, houses and cars will be affordable by common men and women. Another 6 years of Tinubu will bring so much reform, everyone will become APC members.

I look forward to the day when Nigerians can travel for vacation and come back home without plans to stay out. We are getting there and we will get there. Our loans are gradually being paid. All these coastal highways will open up our communities, and I see a dawn of a New Nigeria.

God bless PBAT
God bless Nigeria
God bless ALL of US.

Ekiti is doing well under this man.

Youth engagement cum job creation is top-notched under his leadership.

Every state should hold its governor responsible now.

Tinubu has given us a true federalism that we have been craving for since.

The states have more money now and almost all the responsibilities that used to be in the exclusive list of the federal government e.g power generations, are now under the sub-national governments. In other word, no state has any excuse now, including on the issue of insecurity, because all the states has a level of recruiting local or regional security outfit eg Amotekun in the South west. Benue just recruited 5,000 security men to police the state.

How many people even buy bag of rice monthly in the whole Nigeria?

Life seems to revolve around a bag of rice for most of the opposition. It's annoying how you're making it an easy ride for the president with this one-way, low quality opposition. i mean, i like Tinubu and even support him but i believe a democracy needs quality opposition to put checks, balances, options and keep leadership on its toes, but the kind of opposition PDP and their children give makes one sleepy.

God bless you for this. I was among those who stood firmly against the minimum wage cos I knew majority of my likes would be negatively affected. We all understand basic economics. An increase in wages and salaries would invariably lead to increase in price of goods and services thereby resulting in hyper and galloping inflation

Nigerians are not yet ready for change. Why Nigerian case is bad is that the country has no direction, it is easier to do a quick turnaround if you had an initial destination, and suddenly you realise you're on a wrong track.

Nigeria is just sinking!
Re: Minimum Wage: Thank God, Thank President Tinubu, Oyebanji Tells Ekiti Workers by Kelklein(m): 5:40pm On Dec 17, 2024
Of course we all need to thank him for increasing the Minimum wage from N30,000 ($70) to N70,000 ($40)

They go whine you, but keep your head, don't panic..🤔🤔🤔

What a balablu!
