The thread is referring to CAF Player of the Year Award. Nigeria has won it the most.

There used to be another award that was presented by France Football Magazine. It was called the Ballon d'Or Africain. Cameroonians won that award more (some Nigerians said that France Football favoured francophone Africans).

France Football stopped awarding the Ballon d'Or Africain sometime around 1994 when they opened the European Ballon d'Or award to non-Europeans.

Unfortunately, Nigerian football has nosedived under Ibrahim Gusau administration. The domestic league that produced bulk of the footballers is now in sorry State. Poor management and corruption is now rampant.

The downward trajectory of Nigerian football started in 2014 when Amaju Pinnick took over the Chairmanship of the football House in Warri Delta state. His cousin, Executive Governor of the state then, Dr Uduaghan bankrolled his election.

Since then, Nigerian football has nosedived domestically and internationally. Our league no longer potent and our continental representatives no longer compete because of the roughshod manner champions emerged. It's abridged league and champions were no longer good to hold their own on the continent.

We could regain our old glory if NFF is given radical shake up and square pegs put in square hole.

Cote D Ivoire even have more CAF POTY award than the Cameroon you are mentioning. Nigeria has 7 now, Cote D Ivoire has 6. Cameroon cannot have more than 5. So how is Cameroon more than Nigeria?
