Not completely true. I have lived in different states in Nigeria, due to one thing or the other, like work, school, etc.

I can say what you just said depends on the personality type of your neighbour.

I have had comedians as neighbours. And I have also had monks as neighbours. If you understand what I mean.

In the beginning it wasn't so. I remember growing up in Lagos as a boy, every neighbors' mom and Dad are my parents. When my parents are not around, I can boldly walk into the next-door-neighbor house and stay safe till my own mom returns.
During that brief stay, they have every right to assume responsibilities over me. They can beat, bathe, feed or send me on errands without my Parents complaining.
This is because my parents know most of their neighbors to the village and back; some, they work same line of trade: People they could vouch for and go to the station to effect their bail in the event of mistaken identity or crises!
The point where all these changed was the mixing of different cultures with different values - temporal sojourners mixing with permanent natives; mixing of oil with water leading to acrimony and discordant tones!
Now here we are, to avoid unnecessary tension and strifes, people simply mark their individual space/boundary and will never cross or allow anyone cross over it.
Peace of mind is a golden commodity.

Your neighbour is not your friend.

I leave my House by 7am and come back by 7pm.

Don't have Time to associate with Neighbours, let alone knowing whether they are Unfriendly or Not.

We know the troublesome tribe among us I lived with one werey like that about 8yrs ago this man will put the generator behind my window and I have a less than 2month old baby very useless man. Am thankful God has been guiding me from staying same compound with them again. Am not even a neibor that want to go close to you vice versa just maintain boundaries and we cool.

All my neighbours hav lived with are all nice .. but me no dey do familiarity... I have neighbours I don't even know how their apartment settings looks like

Back in the days when there was no mobile phones, ... Neighbors used to be friendly...parties, visits, share foods and gifts to each other, children play in each other's houses to mention but a few... ..All those good old days are now gone with the wind.

I am a chronic introvert. I don't mingle that much. I stays indoors . I goes out only in the evening to drink and smoke loud and comes back by 10pm and retired back to my room without speaking to anyone. Am I wicked or uncaring?

Is it the amebos that receive from you and tell other neighbours and vice versa? OR

The one that smoke weed in the compound indiscriminately and if you talk, na to tell you stories with insult on your generation? OR

The one that refuse to pay for light?
