You're telling hungry people to stop coming for a free meal? Do you know the level of poverty and hunger in Ibadan?

Stop talking rubbish my friend.

Look, if given another opportunity for a free plate of rice, those remaining survivors will rush in there in their millions, to eat and live is a gamble the can take, than starve to death.

It's time to ban any public show of such. If any9ne is sincere about helping the poor, simply call for their account details and credit them,no physical contact involved or go from house to house and drop whatever. We can see how NGOs do it in the far north.
Sometimes I feel thgs like this are intentionally done for some "reasons ",if not why will they not expect it to be rowdy and out of control.

Reasons like ritual killings?
You may be right, that's the world capital.

Hunger!!! angry
No it's greed!

Some killed others just because of greed!
Hunger won't make you kill others.

It's sure everyone will get something! But when some are afraid it may not get to them they panick and stump on others!

What an unnecessary tragedy. May the Living God console and bring real comfort to grieving families who lost their loved ones. Yet some important organizations that should have kept order and secured lives say that they were not informed about the programme! Despite all the adverts and jingles on the radio waves that were used for probably several days to invite people to attend. Who is accountable? Passing the buck at this time is unacceptable

I know you guys would push the blame on people as usual.

When you see crowd comming beyond normal, common sense should tell you that, you must close the gate, infact, if possible cancel the event entirely, people must take firm and hard decisions atimes, that decision would save bigger calamity, those who don't know reason behind it might blame and curse you, but you know within yourself that, it's best decision, though painful but for overall good of you or others.

To all the emergency patriotic Nigerians who took turns to wail against Davido and Kemi Badenoch for not sugarcoating the truth about the dilapidating situation in Nigeria shey you are satisfied that these children are gone.

One was reiterating a thesis that horrible things happen in the UK but it's underreported.I asked: it happens but not a wild situation like this. This suggests the depth of hunger in our country which is an indices of governance incompetence.

Another fundamental issue in Nigeria is the issue of crowd control.I Told myself never to visit a stadium after my horrible experience at the Abuja stadium during a qualifier. We had to jump a high fence even with our tickets oooo .The security guys refused to open the gates said order from above and said boldly " make Una go climb fence".We deliberately love seeing crowd in a small space when it can be avoided and managed by giving quick access.

What stops them from giving the food immediately they notice they are up to 50 people?

In this Africa, we need to brainwash or fumigate brains here .Too barbaric.

Thanks to "Hunger".

They don't know the level of hunger in the land, People will go to extremes just to feed. It's so unfortunate what this government has turned Nigerians into.
Like vampires looking for fresh blood to feast on. Rest in peace kids.
There's hunger, no doubt, but these kids have been surviving from January. There's something wrong with Nigerian brain whenever they hear about awoof. If you see how people are rushing bottle water in some party, you will shake head for some people.

This is just part of what makes Nigeria a zoo. A situation where people are too hungry to be occupying a space they were not invited just because of food.

During election, these same people will go on to argue in favour of someone who knows next to nothing and lack the competence to stir the affairs of a country just because such person bears similar name with them. It's unfortunate but I hope that one day, people will learn that politicians don't care a hoot about the masses but how to capture power and use it to settle cronies, vote and campaign wisely..........

We are missing the point here and sadly this could repeat itself because there are no clear indications that lessons have been learnt.

Ideally, any event of such magnitude is supposed to be approved by the authorities after the organisers would have submitted their proposal alongside their risk assessment report. The risk assessment report would have been evaluated to see that all the bases are covered for potential risks.

But, here in this country people believe they can just gather others together without any control.

RIP to the dead.

The government still doesn't care. They are making policies aimed at taking money from the masses and giving to the politicians.
Tinubu said the economy is responding to his economic policies maybe this is one of the responses

Soo sad

Closing the gate is not even the issue. Was a risk assessment ever conducted prior to the event. Having such a large number of people in one place comes with potential dangers or risks that have to be planned for.

And they will still re-elect same government after throwing them into hunger A. Government that uses hunger/poverty as a tool for winning elections
Direct your blame to INEC. They will still reselect same government. Anyways, even if election is conducted free and fair, whoever wins will still not perform any good. Nigeria is already rotten to the foundation. No government at this point can do anything to make it better until a bill is passed to kill corrupt politicians immediately. Without this bill, Nigeria will continue to decline and we have not seen anything yet.

They are to be partly blamed. They ought to have conducted a risk assessment to identify potential risks and put in place risk mitigation strategies.

Why did you not take your own children there abi, you are not in NIgeria or you do not need help ?, leave Govt out of this, the truth is that people are greedy and like free things too much, especially ibadan people, it is that mentality that put them in trouble. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.

unfortunately people are dead.

children in this case

simply put the organizers of this event whatever their intentions, did not properly plan for the event

this is why they say regulations are written in blood - because in place where things work - people learn from these events and put laws in place

oyo state govt likely has some liability as well as they have no laws or regulations on large gatherings and how they should be managed

but they will do executive bullying.

the organisers may have to get off hospital bed and lawyer up
