Of course! I have a male friend who isn’t my husband, and he’s actually married too. We hit it off through church, and it’s great to have that connection. He shares some personal things with me, and I try to be supportive, especially since his wife and kids are living in another state. They’re having a tough time since she can’t get a transfer to join him, and he’s juggling a lot with work and side projects. Lately, she’s been talking about sending the kids to live with him, and I can’t help but think that would be quite a challenge for him!

As for me, I tend to keep my personal stuff to myself, whether it’s with friends or family. That’s just my style! Plus, I think people who know my husband tend to respect the boundaries there since he’s well-known and admired in our circle.

Having friends, no matter if they’re male or female, can really add some joy to life, as long as you’re clear about boundaries. I remember back in college living with three other girls—we had some awesome platonic friendships with a few guys. We cared for each other and had fun together, but nothing romantic ever came of it. It’s nice that some of those friends have turned into lifelong connections!

If self-control isn’t your strong suit, it might be a good idea to rethink these types of friendships, but they can definitely be rewarding!
