How many people are involved in rice farming in Nigeria to warrant allowing millions of Nigerians to suffer and die this way just to make sure that the socalled rice farmers keep making money for themselves? How much do they pay for taxes?
Quite a lot. And that's the problem

Most of them live in the rural areas of the North, which have an issue with Boko type groups. If rice farmers are thrown out of employment because of imports of foreign rice from oversease.....you are going to have a large number of unemployed people, who would be susceptible to the charms of the average local terrorist.

Result...more anarchy.

What our government should do is heavily promote commercial style mechanzed largescale farming. This would increase rice production, AND hopefully reduce our dependence on imported rice (Remember imported rice relies on forex...which is not too plentiful right now because of our government's failure to improve our source of revenue).

But, even then, ironically, I am not optimistic. We can't really compete against rice producers like thailand and brazil that have the weather and the climate for all year round growing of rice.

But we should not sacrifice our home grown farmers to benefit other countries. Remember , money spent on imported rice does not benefit your country.

Oga Peter Obi and other obidient minors, oya come and cry about Tinubu as usual. Come and tell us how it was poverty that led to the stampede.

Those idiots rejoicing and politicizing the Ibadan incident as evident of Yoruba poverty can now hide their faces in shame. This is Anambra, the billionaires capital of SE and people are killing each other over mudu of rice.
Mumu rice you call it, how many you don give, it's a shame that you can make a statement like this, lately your comments make me feel you need urgent medical attention

All thanks to Tinubu and his Bulaba economy that has forced grown men and women to go scavage for something as basic as rice.

Damn! we are in a serious mess.

I'm not buying this. The country has suffered immeasurably over this painfull attempts to grow local rice. People are starving. Local rice is even outpacing foreign rice in terms of pricing. Now people are dying all over the place. It is time to find a way to solve the problem. If the socalled farmers who don't pay taxes but will shoot up their prices to high heavensa are incapable of meeting local demands with reasonable prices, imports should be allowed atleast in the interim. Enough is enough ahbegi.

[quote author=oluztx post=133387133]Afonjjas are the most dangerous sets of human beings on this planet earth, just pure evil 24/7. Listen Igbos and Northerners, there are no stampede in Anambra and Abuja, as being reported this morning by Afonjas. They are reporting it out of shame of Ibadan stampede and narrative they were hungry people. In typical Afonjja style of gaslighting, to draw other regions into it, they created fake stampede news in SE and the North, using pictures from Guniea and other African countries.
Abeg rest, it has been reported

My thoughts too. Especially Africans. How many times, over the past 30 years and taking in the reign of different Presidents, have many Nigerian been burnt alive trying to scoop petrol from overturned tankers? Some people cannot even engage their brain anymore and must shout "T-Pain" over every developement.

Rip to the dead. This is a tragedy. We are disensitized to deaths and this is why some can use these sort of development for political gains and ethnic baiting.

Who confirmed them dead?

Some of the people we pass off as dead in accidents may only be in shock, coma, fainting or simply unconscious.

And mortuaries are not known to reject patients.

Thoughts that some people among them may still be truly alive makes me sick.

Bola Tinubu Induced extreme poverty in Nigeria. Even Buhari in 1984 did not take poverty this far like Tinubu.

Tinubu must be in alliance with foreign powers who want reduction of black population, beginning with the most populous black country in the world.

Of what use is sending scarce foreign cash to thailand and brazil because 'cheap rice'

Also, unemployment too.

As much as I hate to say this, most of our economic problems are due to thinking with our stomachs. Nothing wrong with that, but developing an economy involves improving local production, not running away from it via imports.

You guys complain all day long about how the naira is weak...well, importing rice is one of the ways.

This is sad

The Ibadan incident should have made people be weary of large crowds for freebies.

Anything could spark a stampede at such a gathering.
When people get so poor, they lose sight of safety. Ten years ago, who would imagine that ladies from Anambra State would scramble for free rice?

APC remains a curse on Nigeria.
