Most agents don't have houses to even show. They take you out, waste your time and then ask you for money for tfare or lunch

It artificially inflates the prices of goods and services.

In real estate, and not just in Lagos, the situation is at crisis point.

You give them property to sell, they want to add their own to the price, and that's in addition to their commission

You want to buy property, they collect commission from you, and also from the seller.

The greed is extraordinary.

I hope you know you can be prosecuted for this? I pray the house owner is learned enough to seek redress after consulting his solicitors. You think you can just put people's lives on the media without proper deliberation on what damage it could cause to them

She is a liar.. she showed 2 house not one.. the first one , I have stayed there before at muili street oregun by oluyole bus stop at ikeja. She showed her kitchen and others which is not part of the building. these content creators can lie.

because many don't leave the shores of Nigeria, they dont tend to know how much they're suffering in the hands of their leaders they're praising. In kenya, rent is paid monthly. Nothing like all these ridiculous agency fees. Same in Botswana,Rwanda,etc. These are the countries we call mushroom.Rents are fixed based on some facilities in place. You don't need to move in your fridge, washing machine and cooking gas. But here, an agent could take you to the slum and ask you to pay 2m naira. Who would you cry to? Democracy in Nigeria is the opposite of it's true meaning. They don't care if you exist or not.

Do you pay the agent a tour fee like they do in Abuja? If so, this might just be a scheme for them to cash out without needing to have any available houses. They could pick a prospective client, show them an unreasonably priced rubbish dump they know the client won’t like, and still earn their commission without having to finalize anything.

The major problem with housing crisis in a place like Lagos is caused by those good for nothing jobless so-called agents.
They're usually the ones that instigates all these ridiculous price because of the % commission they'll ask the tenant to pay. Many will even tell you to pay TWO YEARS RENT.

If you recently relocated to Lagos from the North, I won’t lie, it will be difficult.

House agents in Lagos are the most exploitative people ever.

It’s one sector that I’m surprised the government haven’t stepped in to regulate.

In Lagos, everyone wants to exploit everyone, everything is an opportunity to cash out, it’s why Lagos is a difficult place to live.

The government is making life hard, while Lagosians are making it harder for themselves with their greedy nature.

Just a few plastering here and there and painting. Then call an electrician to tidy the wiring before renting it out.

This evening, I encountered a scammer. He asked me to pay a registration fee before meeting me. This person, whom I met online, sent me an account number and insisted I pay the fee first so he could collect the key to the house before meeting me.

I told him to collect the key and let me know where to meet him, assuring him I would pay the fee even before seeing the house. However, he refused to agree, clearly exposing his scam.

Beware of Lagos agents! I could even hear his children playing in the background—this is a grown, married man with kids.
