Igbos were existing before creation of Africa, Nigeria and states . Igbo is one with multiple sub sets like Anioma, Mbaise, Izzy , Ezza , owerri, Nkanu, Ngwa, Arochukwu, Agba enu , Idemmili, owerri, Ogbaru , Onitsha , Ikwere etc having different languages and cultures. Igbo have never asked anybody to identify as Igbo but if you feel within your heart you like Igbo culture and everything that concerns Igbo you identify as Igbo but if you choose not to, nobody will send you. There are communities that wake up in almost in every Igbo state and say they are not Igbos even though they speak Igbo but nobody send them

Igbos do not bear only English names
They generally bear a combination of igbo name and the English name. This due to Christianity and contact with the white man. This holds for even Yorubas and many other tribes.

Ikwerres bear Igbo names together with English names. Why? Why bear Igbo names and not Ikwerre names: if there is anything like ikwerre name?

In 1963 ikwerres founded Ogbakor Ikwerre. Then the Igbos were in charge of not lonely Eastern Nigeria but the whole of Nigeria. Ikwerres have always said they are not Igbos before, during and after the war.

Was that why they also changed their market days to Eke, Orie, Afor, Nkwo? And why they were Igbo before the British came? And Igbo even before the civil war? Was it Igbo of old Eastern region that also gave them their ancestral names such as Umuigbo (Igbo children) Umuokoro (Okoro's children), Umuola (Ola's children) which the efulefus among them now have added R to to confuse their fellow efulefus? People have to understand that Ikwerre are not the only people in Rivers State.They are not the only people that speak a language that is mutually intelligible to Igbos, all these people I mentioned do. I'm an Anambra man, but with attentive listening, I understand what all these people say when they speak their language, same as an Ibadan will have listen well to understand when an IJebu man, Egba man, Badagrey man speak

Infact, I have to listen even more attentively when I hear some other Igbo groups such the Ezza/Izzi people of Ebonyi, the Nsukka of Enugu State and the Ohawfia of Abia. Even the dialect of Owerri, capital of Imo State. can sell me if I don't take time.

Ikwere being Igbo or not Igbo will not add one Naira to any Igbo man's pocket

Please, in the grand scheme of things, Ikwerres are few in number compared with the Igbo nation, just about 2 or 3 local governments. They are not even up to the population of the Indigenous Igbos of the lower Benue

We should be talking about more important things, like how to get back over one million Igbos carved into Benue, when they should have been in Ebonyi State. How to get the Anioma people a seperate state

Ikwerre and Igbo are 95% similar they can also pass as Igbo names. Such exists in Europe too like the Portuguese and Spanish or in Nigeria here like Urhobo and Isoko

There are similarities in our languages due to proximity, but to call Ikwerre a dialect of Igbo is Igbo arrogance. Unlike other groups in Nigeria — Yorubas, Hausas,Fulani there was never a centralized Igbo kingdom, so a centralized Igbo language is a modern phenomenon
