damble:Quite a difficult question to answer. Nothing is certain in Nigeria of today. The best of businesses are crumbling left, right, centre etc. The Agriculture sector (or any of its subsectors) is one of the most Hit in this period. Na only God fit determine the risk value. Take for example, I started this year buying a bag of feed for my birds at N9,800. As I type this, I am currently buying same bag for N28,900. Now tell me, how do I write a feasibility plan with such?... Nevertheless, I will try as much as possible to answer you. Factors I usually consider before venturing into any of my projects is; My availability for the project. Trust me, proxy farming always ends up bad. Ask yourself, how much time do I have on my hands? The second is, basic knowledge of what I intend going into.lol. Funny to say, I am first of all, a System Network Engineer (hard to believe right? . First Degree in Computer Engineering & Second degree in System Engineering) but my passion for agriculture has transformed me into ME of today. But my brother, I deeeey reeeeeeeeead. I still put in hours of research & study into anything I intend going into, be it vegetables or livestock farming. Farm practices always keep evolving, I don't intend to be left out on it. Just have basic knowledge before chosing what to go into.Thirdly, captial at your disposal!! Money answers all things ooooo my brother. Na money dey make project sweet oooo!!! Ideas full everybody head, na money be the koko. Money dey even reduce risk value I tell you. Your available capital is a big factor Fourthly, I always look at my market target. What's the point of producing if It doesn't translate to cash in my account? Eg. I chose pigs here because of the environment I found myself, badagry people (Egun), Ipokia, Ado, Lusada, Igbesa, Idanyin, etc are pork loving people. You literally can't host a party here without killing a pig. Lol... Now your market well & what sells faster & better there. Lastly, let me reiterate this; Pray without season. You no fit farm without believing in something ooooo!!! Rain no fall, u go pray, rain fall to much, na prayer, chicken sick, u go fight am with prayers... Even crops, you ask God for a bountiful harvest....God is essential in all aspects of a farmers life Biko. I can't over stress this point. |

Pls just a quick one..how much is a bag of pkc now.. Also because I am not much around, can I feed my pigs with only pkc.? If not what else can I buy to add. I mean already made feed in bags only. For easy purchase. Thanks Can I call you on phone I need just few question to answer.thanks |
| Re: Pigs & Me. My Pig Farming (rarely Talked About) by jidestroud(op): 7:08pm On Dec 29, 2024 |
LORETA:@ presently, a bag of PKC over here is N6,000 (50kg) PKC alone won't give you good results. The idea for me on my pig farm is to achieve 75/80kg in 5 months. |
| Re: Pigs & Me. My Pig Farming (rarely Talked About) by LORETA: 8:45pm On Dec 29, 2024 |
Okay ..so What can I buy to add to the pkc , something easily accessible to purchase without hustle? |

LORETA:Same here, Well, it all depends on what I hope to achieve. On my farm, this is what I feed my pigs with; PKC, Nestle Spent grains, and I do add Pig Concentrate to it (depending on the age of the pigs: weaners, growers or finisher concentrate). From time to time, I do give them cut plantain leaves & stems (I do have that in excess). Cassava peels is something I do get here in excess too, so I go give them after drying or fermenting it. And last, I do mix chicken feeds with their feeds occasionally, give them pelleted wheat barn or soya beans chaff and when I get Nestle golden morn waste, we eat it together. |

Op welldone for the information. This is 2026. Can you update us on the cost of feeds for pig? Is it cheaper now than then? Does one need to owe a plot of land before starting piggery? What are the major challenges in pig farming? |
