hello guys
a friend came from port Harcourt to see me on 24th morning he was with me till 25th ,
we were at night gisting and I ask about his wife.....
to cut the long story short,

the father in-law is still alive but the wife, sister and her sisters husband called him that they will be coming to his place to return the bride price,
I asked him , who did u give the bride price to?
he said the father, I told him to ignore them until the father in-law calls u or ur father before u go and collect it.

none of them where standing there when it was paid, how can ur own brother in-law return ur bride price, I don't know the state u are from but u can't do that in anambra except the dad is no longer alive or far away the first son is in position to do so

I pity my guy sef bought one canvass he was selling ,I no need the canvas cos it wasn't my designer Tommy Hilfiger is my spec , I felt really sorry for him but how can person wey marry elder sister dey return bride price if person wy marry younger sister

my friend Joseph said he will collect it, if it was from the father, he too is no longer interested, no be by force but there should be a proper way,

If you don't want a marriage again, I wouldn't know why you will be dramatic over receiving your brideprice. The father doesn't have to call. Has your friend called his ex father inlaw in the period of separation out of respect or to see how things can be fixed? If no, then I fail to see why the father should extend same honour to him.

If they refuse to collect it. Then a lawyer can drop it off with their village head. It is not even compulsory you hand it over to the man or his family. Let alone it being compulsory the father calls or brings it back himself.

Allow your guy to pick up his money from whoever returns the bride price and moves on unless he's still much interested in the union which is what my mind is telling me, then in that case he should go and meet his inlaws for settlement

He should go with some respectful elders from his end I believe that the marriage can be fixed again. In marriage/relationship there are these two common words that appears cheap and common but in actual sense it's most expensive, "I am sorry and Thank you"

Return of bride price is none of my concern for your information nobody should wed this year 2025 hook up is the way out.

The father(if alive) is the sole eligible to receive or return the bride price

The father or any elder has the right to give anybody the bride price to return but the middle man (Onye Mbe) is the one that suppose to return it to their in-law

The Father-in-law should call the son-in-law. His mother and Sister-in-law were not there when the bride price was paid. It is not a women affair. I know this about Igbo traditional culture.

If Baba is not aware , nobody can return the bride price without Baba's consent as long as he is alive
