Yes I agree with the fact that in every profession, there are still some lowlypaid people. But how come Teachers' are more pronounced. The day u become a private sch teacher is the day u signed up for poverty as a young man
You're not serious.

Except you're not good enough, there are schools in Abuja that pay above 150k, 250k and so on.

How can you be working and collecting 35k? Better put your life in order this new year.

You even come across like a scammer. I doubt if you're a teacher.

Thank you for your concern.
I need a job, not advice please. It's always easy to advise people when you're not the one confronted with the challenge.
So, how can he offer you a job when he doesn't know your discipline/area of expertise? You already assumed whatever he has to say, isn't going to be of any help to you even before hearing what it is.

Sometimes, learn to hear from people first, and don't assume.

Pay House-Rent
Transport and support my siblings since we are orphans.

I can never advise any young guy to teach in a private sch, and if u must teach there, don't stay long on the job. It's tantamount to time waste. You can't make anything meaningful from there. I'm a perfect example.
I wanted to quit this January, but it's unwise doing so without having anything doing. Moreso, my rent expires next month. I can't sleep. I'm disturbed cos of this. Nobody to help
With this mentality, you will be there for the next 10years... That job has made you a slave to the extent you think your survival depends on it...

I50k in Abuja is mere survival.... Because 150k here in Delta can't sustain a single man.

The worste mistake of my life was to be a private school teacher.
The job gives you false sense of economic security.
I now sale Kuni and zobo and in some months, I earn more than two times my monthly salary as a teacher.
Your friend should start seling anything, just anything

Teaching jobs in Abuja are divided into different categories based on the types of schools in the city. There are three main types of schools:

A-Class Schools
These schools cater to the super-rich and expatriates, often offering American or British curriculums. Tuition fees range from ₦3.5 million to ₦7.5 million per year, with some American schools even charging fees in dollars. To be hired as a teacher, you must have a Cambridge IGCSE certification for British schools or an Advanced Placement (AP) certification for American schools. Even if you have a Ph.D. or are a professor, you won't be hired without these certifications. These schools pay well, with starting salaries ranging from ₦300k to ₦500k (I recently helped a friend get a job at my school with a starting salary of ₦500k). Jobs at these schools are hard to come by since most staff stay long-term, and replacements are typically based on recommendations. These schools are also known for being secretive about their operations. Prominent A-Class schools include AISA, ICS, CTL, and TRS. Students from these schools typically go abroad for university education, often attending top universities worldwide.

B-Class Schools
B-Class schools are for middle-income earners, such as civil servants(those ones wey the steal our money) and others earning above ₦1 million per month. Tuition fees range from ₦500k to ₦3 million per year. These schools are typically Nigerian or a mix of Nigerian and British curriculums. Starting salaries for teachers range from ₦150k to ₦250k. It's easier to get a job here, but you need to be skilled and have a TRCN certification, along with a Cambridge IGCSE certification (though it's not always required). The work here can be very stressful. Notable B-Class schools include Loyola, NTIC, Centagon, Page Schools, and so on.

C-Class Schools
C-Class schools are typical Nigerian schools with fees below ₦150k. Teachers in these schools usually earn less than ₦100k to start, and the stress levels are very high. Even if you're a professor, you won't earn what you might expect because these schools simply can't afford to pay more.

Teaching in Abuja can be lucrative, but it depends on the type of school. The wealthier the school, the better the pay, even for private lessons. Teachers in A-Class schools typically charge by the hour and can earn at least ₦100k for 4 contacts or 8 hours a month.

What qualifications does your friend have? Does he know anyone working in an A-Class school? He should reach out because as a math teacher, he could earn a lot and live comfortably—assuming there are no overwhelming personal responsibilities.

PS. Don't stay in a shanty school and condemn the teaching profession. There are teachers who are earning like bank mangers or oil workers! Nobody told me - I know.

Tell your friend, if he or she is skilled in teaching IGCSE mathematics then I can help recommend him/her to my contacts in Startrite,Regent schools, Springhall,Abuja world, Noblehall etc. You see these aforementioned schools and some fully Cambridge inclined schools in Abuja, we call then Champions-league schools, they can pay your contact up to 600k monthly and above. But the question is does your contact have the technical know-how? I read through many ill-informed comments here about teaching and I just shake my head as regards most Nigerians and their pathetic stereotypes about teaching in Nigeria. If you all knew how much Cambridge Teachers are earning from their lessons alone, not alone adding up their salaries you would beg to be Cambridge Teachers. The thing is, you can't give what you don't know and you will never earn in millions over primitive and fixed mindset. Only Teachers teaching in fully certified Cambridge schools enjoy the profession. If you want to be in this league, upgrade yourself and leave behind your Nigerian based exams mentality. I rest my case for now.

It depends. In every profession you see people lowly paid. Abi have you not seen lawyers earning 50k salary?
As at 10 years ago, the lowest paid teacher in my friends school here in Lagos earned over 150k monthly. Teachers are flown to UK once or twice yearly to brush up on courses eg montessori etc. Just imagine how much they earn now.
Don't mind them. As an English instructor, I earn 6 figures at my place of work. Then I earn 3 times my salary from my private practice. I do online teaching too. Then there are one-off jobs that come in between. I'm still in my school because I need the platform to get side jobs
