Some don't have so much, but are not interested in your money.

There is something called 'friendship'

Some have-nots are independent and do not feel entitled.

Many years aback, huh ago my mother use to make a statement, "Move away from poor people, and mingle more with your level'', i use to find that statement to be rather classist, but i can tell you that she was right. Yes inequality and poverty is rife in our society, but there is a limit to what you can do to help people's situation.

The year 2024 has been a blessed one for me business wise, as i got to invest more of what i earned in my business but the call for help, please help me send, can you lend me request can be overwhelming.

As a hyper independent person it is sad to say that i haven't even gotten a gift from people i have helped touched their life in one way other. Even people who borrowed with the promise to pay back haven't fulfilled their commitment.

I am blessed to have a bit of financial success which i hope to last long and outlive my generation, i can't inconvineince myself to beck on everybody's call. At every point i must look at how i put myself first. So this 2025 i plead with all netizens to put themself first and discard any freeloader that may be a threat to your finances.

Conventional wisdom teaches us to stay away from poor people even if they were our friends when we were poor. How sad. But think for a minute, if rich people avoid you, how would your journey up have been. If everyone should live by that principle then the people ahead of you won't have anything to do with you because they will be busy looking for people ahead of them too. Your mother is wrong.
Unless the mum is super rich then that's a dangerous advice to give. Of course she's wrong. Terrible advice.

I mean we all started somewhere. My dad(RIP) was a civil war veteran and he obviously couldn't afford my travels. My mum was a farmer then but now a retired primary school teacher. It was a rich man in my village who sponsored my travels to Scotland in 2001. Imagine this rich man had the mentality of the op's mum...

Humility is key...may God help and guide us.

True, true. It's just like that old saying, no condition is permanent. The recent revelation of what fell out between Mikel Obi and 2face is one good example.

It depends, don't generalise.I have friends that were very helpful when I was job hunting. One way or the other things got tough for dem,I can't stay away from such people. That person you call poor and avoid today can become very rich tomorrow.Just be wise and use your sense.

Funny enough, rich people wont call you classist, only poor people will.
Re: Stay Away From Poor Friends This 2025 by optm(m): 7:04pm On Jan 01, 2025
I focus more on the heart of people than their class.
Their mindset is what's more important than their wealth status; as anyone could become rich or poor.
Whatever one is or has, is a privilege from God; as, no human has power to control all the factors that made them successful.

There are poor people with something upstairs, they can give out a really pretty cool advice which, when you heed to the advice will yield good results.

There are very stupid and entitled poor brats who think that it's your responsibility to cater for them, run as fast as your feet can carry you, stay away from such type of people this year if you want to make it this year, especially the female.
There was a friend of mine, even if the last thing in our pockets then was 200 and we haven't eaten, he will find how to use 100 out of it to drink beer/ogogoro/kai Kai/brukutu
I thank God for the opportunity to know such a person exist in life and I want nothing to be like the person

Did you become rich by staying away from yourself when you were poor? If not, you are not being factual here at all.

You can spend your whole life in the midst of rich people without becoming rich. You can mingle with the rich and become rich. You can mingle with the poor and never get rich. You can grow up, build your career and become rich in the midst of poor people. It all depends on you.

The poor people around you are never the reason you are poor. The fact is that when some people like you make money, they look for an excuse to maltreat and oppress the poor people around them. You need the poor to accommodate you when you can't sit with the rich. You consider the poor useless when you afford to sit with the rich. Inconsiderate and selfish humans.

You people operate with a very stupid ideology with which you see an innocent friend of a thief as a thief but see a poor friend of the rich as the poor he is.

Dangote didn't migrate to a richer or the richest country before becoming the richest black man. Many claim that Lagos is where music talent pays. But many guys started in the East and became international stars while many in Lagos are still struggling to perform in their streets.
point taken. But two truths can coexist.

You're right. The major reason to stay away from poor people is not because they always ask for help. For me, the main reason I avoid poor people is mentality. Poverty mentality is worst than death cool.
Hope u knw ur so called wealth na peanut for some people side? Those people will consider u as poor too.

Going by ur logic Elon musk will not want to mingle wit Dangote because Dangote na very very poor man for where Musk they.

Life is not about moving wit rich or poor people. Just make sure u move wit positive minded peepz and people wit goals.

A poor friend you avoid today may be bigger than you 10 times tomorrow, hope you will not want to mingle with him too. I don't see any need to avoid any friend just because you think they are poor? For me, I only avoid any person that I sense is evil weather rich or poor.

I escaped poverty by providing value to people who have money, not freeloading off others.

In fact, I don’t have 0 reason to give any one a dime. My pride didn’t allow me beg, I worked hard instead.

I did odd jobs, slave off as a cleaner/house help etc till i can save enough to get what I need to learn a skill.

After learning a skill, I look for job, manage my money and utilize the little I have till it becomes big.

You see, I owe no one.

Towards the end of last year, I did some calculations, realized I am being too much of Father Christmas, and made that decision to cut off freeloaders.

I’m with OP.
Stay with your decision(s) and don't corrupt the minds of those who has the mind to give out to the poor.

You really have a poverty mindset, besides,I wonder how rich you think you are,cos you sound more like an arrogant pesin shocked sad

My only mission going forward is to save and invest for my retirement.

I have long avoided poor friends with poor mindsets.
Poor friends are not bad as long as they are not of poor mindset. Everyone can't make it at the same time. That some of your friends are poor today doesn't mean that they will be poor forever as long as they don't have poor mindset. There is a clear difference between the two,

Not every poor man has poor mentality or mindset. If they're truly your friends, you would be able to differentiate between them. That some of them are still poor doesn't mean that they are not trying or not going to make it. Everyone can't be successful at the same time.

It's mostly those who are born into poverty that often develop this mindset of yours, once they begin to have little change.
Absolutely.

His mindset will change when he begins to enter into real abundance.

However, that is if he is able to cross that line.

We male children seem to love and value the words of our mums, but our mums can be erroneous at times.

You have not yet celebrated your 24 hours birthday on nairaland but here you are asking for 5k?
I will report you to the mods, stop advertising poverty.
If you want to form almajiri in the multiverse, you must pay advert fee to nairaland.

BTW, have u packed your Ghana must go?
When are you leaving for DSS headquarters to start the protest?

Coldrux:
You had better stay humble. Someone is still richer than you so stop deceiving yourselves.

The money u think u have is a chicken change to some people and such people will also definitely avoid you. He who is poor today might be rich tommorow. No condition is permanent.

Can any friend here pls assist me with 5k?
There are so many needs to be met. I look at my siblings, I feel like shedding tears
